Great game — while driving for the tying or go-ahead score with less than a minute left, Trinity was stopped by a sack inside the UMHB 40 yard line, allowing the Crusaders to escape with a 24-17 win. Trinity gave UMHB is toughest test in the playoffs last year, on the way to the Cru’s third D3 national championship in last six years. Will be interesting to see how far they can make it this year.
UPDATE: After a dramatic come from behind win last week in Belton, when UMHB turned a 28-17 forth quarter deficit into a 41-28 victory over big upset-minded Bethel in the D3 quarterfinals, the Cru faces the North Central Cardinals in a rematch of last year’s D3 NC game that Mary Hardin-Baylor won decisively. This time, however, the frigid semi-final game is on North Central’s home field in Naperville, Illinois, a western suburb of Chicago. Should be a great rematch, but most D3 pundits are picking the Cards to win. 2:30 p.m. on ESPN+.
