T. Boone Pickens said he likes the current 10-team Big 12 configuration the way it is and would prefer adding Houston and SMU if the league grows, but that’s “probably unlikely.” The Oklahoma State benefactor said on our “On Second Thought” podcast that Oklahoma president David Boren has been wishy-washy about expansion and that “maybe it’s time for David to retire.” Some outlets reported Tuesday that the mercurial Boren is saying he’s decided against expansion, but Boren clarified his stance, saying “Oklahoma has not yet taken a position on expansion.” Pickens, who has given $500 million to his alma mater, said, “I’ve known David forever. He likes to talk. He gets a little bit confused sometimes.” Pickens said he and Cowboys coach Mike Gundy aren’t talking. “I don’t have any conversations with Gundy,” he said. Is there a rift? “I don’t know, but Mike doesn’t handle people relationships very well. And he gets mad about things. I’ve heard he’s written some notes about me that weren’t very complimentary.”

I'm down with largely puppet figure Boren retiring or resigning. He is way to reactive and not at all proactive. That sort of passive nature, will leave this conference in the dust as others are changing and adapting. We are sitting idle. At this point, there are very little teams to scoop up....as all the good ones have been poached. And raiding any conference is not a position our weak conference is in. Its Borens decisions (or whomever is controlling him) that got us in this weak position. Go get someone who has a pair of balls, or at least is willing to flex some muscles. Otherwise, the conference will be gone in a few years.

Baylor is looking.

I don't have a problem with Houston but don't really understand adding SMU. Besides with Baylor probably going to be forced to give up football for their atrocities committed, it's probably best to let the conference implode.

I would rather stay at ten than add Houston and SMU, or any of the schools being kicked around for that matter.

Don't think the conference makes it either way.

Gundy pissing off Boone doesn't seem Like a wise career move. At the same time would be hard to do better than gundy at OSU. Just based on recored

It's a zero sum game if you just keep promoting teams that depend on the same talent pool.

Baylor is not going to have to give up fb for attrocities committed. And the school that gave us Barry Switzer has no right to call out anyone for being immoral.

Joe Mixon says hi. As does Dorial Green Beckham. And the whole Mid '80's Sooner roster. So far, there hasn't been a BU player featured on the cover of Sports Illustrated in an orange jumpsuit. Or did you forget Charles Thompson? Geez - BU is so far in your head.

Nobody covered up Joe Mixon Or DGB. They were both in the open. Your school has been lying and covering up heinous crimes and you very well may not have a program when the dust settles.

OU and OSU recruit Texas in a big way and adding Houston to the Big 12 would not help them. The Houston area has produced some great players through the years and those kids might decide to stay home so family members could see them play would be the calling card.SMU,not ready.

Ha Ha Ha Ha!!! At least BU was ashamed enough to do it in the dark. OU recruited known female assaulters "in the open" and spent money and time appealing the waiver of normal redshirt rules so the female assaulters could play immediately --- "in the open" -- and you defend it! Dude, this is more shameful to think that this is acceptable!

I've gone back and forth on where I'd prefer Texas to land if/when the b12 collapses. For me, it's holding hands with OU, OStU, & another Texas team or ND to join B10.
Yes it turns into an arctic tundra up there but we wouldn't be bombarded with 10pm kickoffs week after week. I like the idea of yearly matchups with Ohio St, Mich, OU and pissing off Nebraska again.
I love playing against sec teams but do not want to be part of the conference nut hugging. Rooting for conference teams against a different conference is one thing but bragging about another teams accomplishments as if they are your own is rediculous.

Nowhere have I defended anything but to this day Baylor is shuffling and hiding and I'm sure those girls who had these heinous crimes committed against them and the covered up by your coach, players and admin are real happy it was "in the dark"

Ha Ha Ha! You compared OU to Baylor. That is a defense of OU! And back at you - I'm sure the young lady with the caved in face feels better that OU's punishment of Mixon was "in the open." Bet that broken jaw healed faster!

Only a few hoursearlier three of Thompson's teammates, sophomore running back Glen Bell, sophomore offensive tackle Nigel Clay and junior tight end Bernard Hall, hadbeen arraigned for allegedly gang-raping a woman on Jan. 21 in the Wilkinsondorm. Eight days before that, Thompson's roommate, redshirt freshman cornerbackJerry Parks, had shot sophomore offensive lineman Zarak Peters in the chestafter a late-night argument in the dorm. Parks then allegedly aimed the pistolat Thompson, then pointed the weapon at his own head and pulled the trigger, but the gun misfired.

The shooting cameone month after the NCAA had placed the Oklahoma football team on three yearsprobation for "major violations," which included offering cash and carsto recruits and giving airline tickets to players. The NCAA Committee onInfractions stated that for "at least several years, the university hasfailed to exercise appropriate institutional control" over the footballprogram. One more violation in any sport in the next five years and the Soonersprogram will be temporarily shut down—the so-called death penalty. Now, outsideBud Wilkinson House, the press was waiting for any player who would comment onthe sordid mess.

Thompson slid intohis car and roared off, free of the reporters and, apparently, of any blame forthe Sooners' ills. At 5'10" and 175 pounds, Thompson is tough andwhippet-quick. He emerged as a team leader after replacing Jamelle Holieway onOct. 15 as the starting quarterback in Oklahoma's wildfire wishbone offense.Thompson seemed to have his priorities in order. Earlier that week he hadlectured children at a nearby grammar school about the evils of drug use."Regardless of what anyone has told you about drugs," he told theyoungsters, "they're the quickest way to end your life, the quickest way tobe in jail."

Three days laterthe FBI charged Thompson with having sold 17 grams of cocaine for $1,400 to anundercover agent on Jan. 26. The newspaper photographs of Thompson, theSooners' leading ground-gainer—he rushed for 824 yards and nine touchdowns on145 carries last fall—dressed in an orange prison suit with his hands cuffedtogether were nearly as shocking as U.S. attorney Bill Price's announcementthat, if convicted, Thompson could receive 20 years in prison and $1 million infines

Yeah that chapter on OU played out years ago. Baylor's story is just beginning and the atrocities committed and still being covered up are way worse considering YOUR school is portrayed as a Christian school. Haha, someone should inform your players, coach and filthy admin that just because you are in the missionary position does not constitute you being in church =)rollAnd then to have your fan base have the audacity to give your filthy ousted coach a standing O tells me all I need to know about Baylor

You know diadevic if your alma mater can avoid injuries they could run the table. I'm serious. You can see the difference that Ishmael Zamora makes when he's in the lineup. I mean I know he's an ******* but he could end up as the next Baylor receiver in the NFL. And they still have Platt, and Cannon, and Jim Grobe has made the te a part of the Baylor offense. They have a good running game Terrance Williams could be an outstanding rb by the time he's through. And right now the best qb in the Big XII is Seth Russell.

They have a formidable back 7. Heck, by Big XII standards they could have the best in the conference. Mostly I can see Jim Grobe's influence in discipline on the field no more dumb penalties especially on defense. He's also suspended players for little things. I mean we now know that Art Briles didn't suspend players at all so at least Grobe is doing something. He seems to have the team unified and it appears he has their respect. That being said it's been a typical first half of a Baylor season. A weak non con, and now two byes and two games against ISU and KS. They should be unbeaten and in the top ten when they come to Austin on October 29th. The players that are left are still very good. Right now I have Baylor as a maybe.

gundy better watch it or he will end up being Boones janitor
