From today’s Daily Telegraph:

Waiting lists soar by 50% as doctors refuse to work

Waiting lists have soared by 50 per cent in three months in some parts of the country because doctors are refusing to work in order to protect their pensions, say senior NHS [National Health Service] managers. As Laura Donnelly explains, changes in Treasury rules mean that high earners can end up paying tax rates of up to 90 per cent on earnings over £110,000 a year, including the value of pensions. NHS chiefs say that as a result, high numbers of medics are cutting their hours as they feel it is not worth their while to take on the work.
Permanent government dependency is rarely a good thing, even for doctors.
