With the dead period coming to an end in a couple of weeks, Houston (TX) North Shore defensive end K'Lavon Chaisson has been busy piecing together an official visit schedule for January. So far the Rivals250 member has locked in four trips to LSU, Texas, Colorado, and USC.

“I am going to visit Texas and LSU both and then going to see USC and Colorado too,” said Chaisson. “I know the LSU visit is on the 13th, Texas is on the 20th and then I think the 23rd is going to be Colorado ... and then Southern Cal that last weekend.”

The Tigers were the first program to throw their name into the mix as Chaisson’s first offer, which is something he takes into account. He’s visited Death Valley numerous times since landing that offer and is excited to spend an extended amount of time with the players and coaches there.

“They have been telling me a lot of things I need to know. They say they need someone to grab the attention away from Arden Key because you can’t block everyone," Chaisson said. "They started protecting him way more so it would let me come free. They let me know things more about the academics and the tradition.”

The Longhorns have long been in the mix for the 6-4, 220-pounder, before the hire of new head coach Tom Herman, who also was recruiting Chaisson at Houston. Though Chaisson admits he is happy with the new hire, his interest in the Longhorns has always been high.

“When Coach Herman got there it definitely added a boost but it didn’t bring my interest towards Texas. I have been looking at them for academics and what they do for alumni," Chaisson said. "I have been looking at Texas a lot though. I feel in love with the coaches and the game plan. They are real cool. They had their conference on lock when they were at Houston. I know some North Shore people that were there and they said a lot of good things about Texas.”

The Texas staff has also talked with the four-star pass rusher about how he can impact their defense with his ability to create pressure on the passer.

“They said just another stand up d-end kind of like how they used Tyus Bowser at U of H. It would be a lot of me standing up and holding the ground and dropping back like every once in a while," Chaisson said. "Getting to the passer is my best ability and they like to throw the ball a lot in the Big 12.”

When it comes to a final decision, Chaisson will likely take things the distance with a commitment on National Signing Day. Heading into his busy January of visits, there are two programs at the top of his list.

“I would say that everything I am looking at all schools but right now I can say LSU and Texas are the leaders.”
