Clob...It's all up to you

Gary Patterson made the flip and went from 4-8 to 12-1 and 11-2 and from averaging just more than 25 points per game to more than 44 points per game.

Can Texas get anywhere close to that? So far, it seems the only way to slow this offense down, is by not trusting it or overthinking it or by watering it down.

Trevoyne Boykin ain't on campus. But then again -- maybe its just plug and play.

Top...you may as well start in on me now because as Metcalf will tell you, it took me over a year to be able to spell Moorer

And MM....dont worry here. Top Gum and I are ok...in spring ball you have to get into fights with your own until the regular season starts and you can fight the other guys.

I'm good with everyone--I'm just goofing off. I save my venom for Nazis and Trailer Trash.

Per my favorite Joe-Shmo poster on another site:

In every single picture and video of the players, I see the results of Coach Moorer. I couldn’t have imagined the changes that man has brought to our team. It’s truly amazing.
  • Patrick Vahe was somewhat pear shaped when he arrived. Now he’s got a chest and shoulders like a German insult.
  • Connor Williams used to look like the tight end he was. Now he’s looking like a cover boy for "Left Tackle Monthly" magazine.
  • Tristan Nickleson used to look like a sea bird plucked from an oil slick. Now he looks like a walking mountain.
  • Garrett Thomas came in looking like he ate nothing but State Fair fried Twinkies. Now he’s unrecognizable. He actually looks thin….and he’s 300 pounds!!!
  • Chis Warren adds another 20 pounds of muscle? Jefferson, Hager, Wheeler the same?
Coach Moorer should be given a substantial raise. He has worked miracles with this team.

Wow Godz!!!...great post. I was already in awe of Moorers work in getting amazing results in adding good weight without sacrificing agility.......but looking at that link you provided I see that he even got 7 players to grow an inch taller. He could make millions from Tom Cruise alone!

No...it doesnt make you an idiot....but it does make you come off as a jerk,,,,not that you are, but it makes you look like you are trying hard to be one.

Let it go, I put him on ignore, life is to short to deal with ignorant assholes.

The images I saw of Wheeler blew me away, he looks like Orakpo, I had to do a double to make sure it was him.

I agree, I think for the first time in a very long time, we finally have a real S&C coach.

I'm just posting Spring Practice stuff for the sake of having some Longhorns Football to talk about.

But, I sure wish there was someone on this site who had personal connections to garner inside info on some juicy stuff. ;)

Yes, I also wish we had our inside man on the inside doing his thing. Right now he seems to be on the outside sleeping with hotties and complaining about their gas issues.

Hey Clob, did you get her some pooperri?

Unless your name is Malcom Brown, then deal with it. This is message board, and I am not a writer. So if you feel the need to be the grammar/spelling police, then you are an idiot.
If you misspell a name into another player's name, that's worth correcting. Get over your error. Now everyone is gonna remember that you're the dude who doesn't know Malcom Brown from Malcolm Brown.

Yes, I'm the guy that doesn't care about spelling or grammar.

I will wear a scarlet S (for spelling) from now on.

MM - can you change whatever is written below my name to just an S because I don't care how to spell a player's name. If Malcom's mom and dad wanted me to spell his name correctly, they should have spelled it according to how it is spelled in Spell Check.

It's their fault.

Your such a looser. It's hard to believe your a Longhorn alumni...;) I was only having fun.
But I'm ignorant AND an asshole--which means you are embarrassed...:p

I tooooold you guys that I'm going to wait until about the half way point to go to practice. If I'm out there before they get into any rhythm on offense then I'd have to come back here and be like- "well, um..... Let's see, uhhhh, there were some footballs, and some dudes in helmets....... sorta 'looked' like a football practice....but...."--

And then at that point FB and oldhorn go into cardiac arrest, Metcalf tells me it can't be THAT bad, SWVAHORN puts his head in his hands, MM private messages me asking "was it really THAT bad", Ketch offers again to give me a free year of premium membership to OB, and Utisthabomb shows back up and claims that I never went to practice in the first place and calls me an aggy troll again.

Let the boys get some quality work in and I PROMISE I will go watch and report.

All true.

Actually Clob....when I started this thread I knew you had to wait until close to the Orange White game to really get info worth repeating. I know it hasnt stopped most of the reporters, but you have a reputation to uphold. I will give you the time, but it doesnt mean that FB and I wont go into cardio before then.( hell....how much time could we have anyway?)

Until then I will continue to provide myself and swVA all the inside info I can invent.

Dear lord I can't wait for football to start back up after reading you old farts banter about spelling.

On a side not... Not that anyone cares, but I am going to be on the sideline for the Baylor spring game on Friday. I'm interested to see their offense up close and personal. Also I'll try and do a little scouting and report back. Haha we need somethin else to talk about besides spelling.

Scout.com's Jason Higdon concerning last week's practices:

They are running plays every 10-12 seconds – that is not realistic. In practice, currently if the WR runs a 40 yard fly route and the ball is incomplete or caught guess what happens? The WR walks right off the field, 40 yards away the ball is moved five yards up regardless of the play – the DB has to sprint all the way back down the field to get lined up while a new fresh WR gets lined up.

They can't run the offense like that in a live game with an umpire – it can't happen. If the WR runs a deep route then must come all the way back to the LOS, they can't run a play in 10-12 seconds – it's not possible. And if he runs off the field and another WR runs on the field like they are doing, guess what happens? The umpire stands over the ball and allows the D to sub in players. Either way, they are not running plays in games that fast. Either way, next Saturday they will have a live scrimmage with an umpire and we will see how it goes.

I believe Texas over paid for this hire based off credentials.

Thank you, Higs. Sterlin Gilbert was obviously a horrible hire. Why would we bring a guy to UT who is clueless to the differences between practices and games? o_O

Goodness gracious sakes alive... Gilbert is trying to install a new and different offense which he has done before on more than one occasion. It's fast. It's relentless. It's about reps. The D has to learn to keep pace and make adjustments or get killed.

Oh, and it's also about conditioning... both physically and mentally... on both sides of the ball.

Please stick to recruiting, Higs – it's your strength.

From having watched every single play BU has run under Briles at least twice ----- you will find that the quick 10 second plays are the run followed by a run; or a run followed by a pass. You just don't see a fly pattern followed by a fly pattern. You run the ball twice in a row within 10 seconds, the big uglies up front get too tired to put on a pass rush on the 3rd play, giving QB's and WR's extra time to connect. Briles wasn't happy about Gilbert going to UT, which should tell you everything you need to know - Gilbert is going to be alright.

Not sure what Higdon's point is? It's practice. I'll give him the benefit of the doubt and assume it's a context issue. Games take 3 1/2 plus hours, if practices were ran under game time rules then nothing would be accomplished.

As far as overpaying, I don't disagree, but I also don't care. Efficient use of resources is not a goal of fans. Winning games is. Gilbert would not have got this offer from anyone but Texas, but it's not my money, and a few hundred thousand is nothing in UT's budget. As a fan, there is no joy/sorrow in knowing that one coach offers a better/worse value in terms of costs versus production. I just want maximized production no matter the costs.

We need a new direction on offense. This is charlie's team, he is the one to pay if it doesn't work out again.

Part of it is indeed a context issue. For one thing, Higdon said he likes the Gilbert hire.

Higdon's chief concern is with the fact that running practice this way means that corrections for the defense happen the following day in the film room rather than on the spot in practice. Maybe the coaches only intend to do this in the early going. If this is the way the defense will always be coached from now on, however, I think this is a legitimate worry, as coaching off the film is definitely not an adequate substitute for real-time teaching. I would hope that Charlie would adopt the method Patterson is using for in-practice defensive coaching once installation is further along.

Completely agree here. I don't want the athletics program to be mindlessly wasteful (which it most certainly is when it comes to maintaining outsize bureaucratic bloat), but I don't care if we toss around some extra money to be certain we get what we want in a coaching staff. None of us fans are looking for a monetary ROI here.
