Update - Confirmed with a source that UT and Carson have parted ways, and it was a decision both sides was in everyone's best interests.

Good luck to Carson wherever he lands.

Defensive end LaGaryonn Carson has decommitted from Texas, according to a source close to the situation.

Carson hasn't responded to OB's requests for an update, but he did take mentions of being committed to Texas off his twitter page, which is pretty telling because Carter's always been extremely vocal about his UT commitment on social media.

Losing Carson is a big blow for the Longhorns in terms of pure talent, but it's not exactly a situation that will catch anyone by surprise and the Texas coaches have been making contingency plans in recent weeks and will almost certainly continue to do so in the final month of the recruiting process.

Carson's a Rivals250 member with a ton of raw talent, so that will be replaced, but he's had issues both in the classroom and off the field that have made his landing in Texas feel like an uphill battle going back to the summer. This fall, Carson left Texarkana Liberty Eylau and enrolled at Premier School of Texarkana with hopes of getting things in order, and while he remained optimistic about his chances and his UT commitment in early December, it appears that any chances of him being part of the Texas recruiting class have officially been shut down as of Tuesday. My guess is that it was a mutual parting of ways between Carson and Texas as both explore other options.

Texas is now left with just one defensive end commitment, from Temple's Taquon Graham, and the Longhorns will have to work to hold on to him as Graham is expected to visit Oklahoma in January. Texas is also planning to bring in a few prospects in January for official visits, including Bryan Jones, K'Lavon Chaisson and Ryan Johnson.
