Had the great pleasure of crossing paths with a player’s parent today. The player is a starter and will be critical to success next year.

A few interesting notes:

Said there was never any discussion of Arch being concussed and his Mom was super pissed he wasn’t in on the goal line at the end of the game. He said they have been super patient but that was the end of the patience.

Said that Arch is legit huge. Able to stand in the pocket and take hits while delivering the ball. It’s something we all know but I thought it was interesting because the player has specifically mentioned how physically imposing Arch is.

This conversation essentially ended my skepticism on the NIL offer ranges reported. This player had 1.1M on the table from Tech (gross), 800k from game cocks, and 800k from UGA. He ended up staying with us for $450K.

It underscores the importance of our culture, and kids wanting to stay and play at Texas. I mean it’s 37k a month and it kept him in school so the player can try and get into good draft position, but it’s pretty clear that massive bidding wars are erupting during portal windows.

Said the NIL groups sit inside Belmont now. Wild. The NIL discussion was eye opening to say the least.

Also, **** Texas Tech. I hope oil crashes.
