Lots of smoke this morning about Texas being in a good position to flip DeSoto defensive tackle Byron Murphy from Baylor.

I’ve got a few messages out to gather more information, but from what I’ve heard in the last 30 minutes or so, it looks like this one is legit. One DeSoto source didn’t directly confirm the news, but did indicate that the talks with Texas have been progressing and it sounds like it’s a situation we’ll need to monitor closely. A Baylor source indicated to Rivals.com that Texas is aggressively pushing for Murphy behind the scenes, and Murphy is definitely listening.

The 6-1, 295-pound Murphy has been committed to Baylor since June. Obviously, getting him would help Texas fill a need at defensive tackle, but it could also be a big development in the Longhorns’ chances of landing DeSoto’s Shemar Turner as well.

Murphy is a three-star prospect, but good chance that changes and he gets bumped up to a four-star. Two people I’ve talked to this morning have raved about his play and indicated this would be a strong take for Texas, should the flip happen.

Update: Literally getting information as I typed this up. A DeSoto source tells me Texas has in fact offered Murphy.

Update part II: Another DeSoto source confirms Texas is really pushing here and Texas' chances of a flip are very good.

Update part III: Just got a text ... "It's gonna happen with Murphy"

Looking really good for Texas here.

Update part IV: Murphy has decommitted.
