I’ll have more from this weekend’s group of official visitors as I connect with more guys throughout the day, but some early notes …

--- Texas linebacker commitment Trevell Johnson just wrapped up his visit and he tells me it was amazing. Johnson had taken unofficial visits to Texas Tech and Oklahoma State prior to his UT visit and while he had said he wasn’t going to do interviews, he was kind enough to give me some time today.

In a nutshell, he said the other schools didn’t even compare to Texas. Not in any way.

Johnson tells me he’s completely locked in with his UT commitment and is shutting things down. Doesn’t sound like there’s any reason at all to be worried about this one.

--- Wide receiver Shazz Preston is on his flight back to Louisiana but he said it was a really good visit overall. He enjoyed the staff, the offensive system and said he really clicked with Evan Stewart and Maalik Murphy.

The Texas coaches stressed to Preston how he could be used in their offense and how things are about to take off at UT. Too early to get a great read on this one, but a source told me over the weekend that Texas has a legit shot with the Rivals250 member.

--- Evan Stewart is on his way home as I type this (he’s flying back to Dallas). Caught up with him briefly but not enough to get much of a report. I’ll try to reconnect with him later when he has more time.

One person did tell me they thought Texas had a great shot of getting the Rivals100 member back on the commitment list but it’ll probably be a recruitment “that goes down to the last minute.” Regardless, multiple people I’ve talked to today felt like Stewart had a great visit and UT helped its chances this weekend.

--- OL Connor Robertson is already back home. The Westlake lineman said it was a very good visit for both him and his parents. He and Kelvin Banks really connected on this trip, hung out quite a bit and Robertson said he’d love to play alongside Banks.

Robertson has taken an official visit to Northwestern. He’ll be at Stanford next weekend. He was supposed to visit USC at some point this month but that's not expected to happen now.

His hope is that he’ll be ready to make a decision sometime in July, after he has a chance to sit down and compare the three schools he’s visited.

Of note, Robertson said he’s under the impression that Texas would like to take five offensive linemen in this class, if possible.

--- Texas wide receiver Armani Winfield said the visit had a “family” feel and he said any questions he had, the UT staff was able to answer. Winfield did visit Michigan State a couple weeks ago but said he doesn’t have any visits set up for next week. As for his commitment status following this visit (and the MSU visit), he said it’s “pretty solid for sure.” Not exactly the 100% talk you usually hear, but we’ve seen that those types of declarations don’t always amount to much anyway.

--- One quote of interest. I asked someone how much they felt this weekend helped UT’s chances with some of the uncommitted guys that were on campus, especially Kelvin Banks, Denver Harris and Evan Stewart.

“A lot. I’m pretty sure they’re rocking with us,” the person said.
