Aggy can go to hell

Well, they do lie about the number of championships they've had which is definitely a sin of some kind.

OU doesn’t make it to the big 12 championship.

Interesting start to this chat, I'd say. If this was meant as a "buy or sell"-type of "question," I'd definitely sell that one, though. I really think that barring unforeseen circumstances that Texas and OU are on a collision course to play each other twice next season.

Your pre-season player biggest break through star?

Your pre-season player most likely to disappoint?

Your pre-season W/L projection?

Biggest chance for team to upset TEXAS? (since we will be favored in at least 10 of 12 games)

Your prediction for LSU and RRW?

1) Keondre Coburn
2) Malcolm Epps (the hype got to be too much in the spring, IMO)
3) Always worry about Matt Campbell and Iowa State these days
4) Texas wins at least one out of those initial two

This years O Line will be the best since......?

... I started working here and charting the group. I can't really talk with any level of expertise going back past the 2013 season, but since then, as many of you know, I have charted and graded each snap of each game by each player. From my post earlier this week, as you can see, the collective group of players projected to mix in as the Top 6 (including Junior Angilau, who is not listed) represent a much more steady core of players than Texas has seen since I started working here.

Does Texas have an issue with slow starts to the season or was it that Maryland just had their number?

I don't think it matters whether Maryland had Texas' number or not when we factually state that, yes, Texas under Herman has had issues coming out of the gate. Although those games were certainly both against Maryland, Texas will technically have issues with season openers until it doesn't. I suspect these early hiccups end this season, however.

Will running behind this O-line (namely Braun and Cosmi) actually make Drayton look good this year?

I think that depends on his usage of personnel which has been atrocious to start his tenure at Texas. My personal hope is that, at some point, the talent in the RB room is so talented from bow to stern that he can't screw it up.

Your favorite position group to analyze and why?

Definitely offensive and defensive lines. I played DL my whole life and have always been around family that coached in the trenches, too. I grew up around line coaches, it is the part of the game that I understand best by far so it's what I enjoy most. I still can get caught up in coverage principles, etc. where I feel like I don't have a complete grasp on what the concept was supposed to be. Also, with the broadcast angles available to us, the offensive and defensive lines are certainly the two units you can glean the most from without having access to All-22 footage.

Horrible hypothetical scenario: Sam goes down to injury in the Red River game in the 1st quarter. Can we win the game with Casey Thompson back there?

Yes. Absolutely. It is not a lock, but a possibility? Absolutely.

Do you think CTH will want to focus on one primary back and use the second one more sparingly in order to show really good rushing totals?
I ask this because I think this might be a way to combat the perceived negative recruiting.

Herman is not in charge of the RB rotations and consistently tosses that hot potato onto the lap of Drayton any time anyone complains. With this said, I think Drayton will mainly use Ingram and Whittington. If he doesn't (assuming both are healthy), it will be proven that he needs to go. RB coaches in college are the least important from a "teaching" perspective at their position. You need them to be ace recruiters. If Drayton is bringing neither then he might need a visit from the Bobs ...

Connor Williams or Sam Cosmi?

Connor Williams for now still. After another year of Cosmi developing on his game and improving will be the better time to ask.

On a scale of 8-10, how much does OU suck?

Which incoming freshman makes the biggest impact this year?

11 and Jake Smith + Jordan Whittington.

Do you think Texas offense takes a step forward with an improved OL, WRs, and RBs?

Do you expect to see less drops this season?

Is Brewer going to hold down the TE spot?

Do you expect the Texas defense to improve this season? Insert guys like Coburn, Ossai, Cook, and Jamison.

Thoughts on Ojomo. Any chance he pushes himself into the starting lineup?

1) Of course.
2) Based on he spring game, no.
3) Of course.
4) By the end of the season it's a possibility but not off the bat.
5) It will take an injury to Graham this year IMO.

@Alex Dunlap of the current Texas OT prospects on campus, who has the most upside out of
Christian Jones
Javonne Shepherd
Isaiah Hookfin
Reese Moore
Tyler Johnson

Same Question for the current DL on campus out of
Myron Warren
Keondre Coburn
Moro Ojomo
Peter Mpagi
T'Vondre Sweat
Daniel Carson

I really like to see these guys live and in-person before making player-to-player comparison projections at the college level, so I will preface by saying that -- but this one, based on all we know at this time, seems pretty easy to me. The young OL of those listed with the most upside is Johnson and the DL is Coburn. Maybe my thoughts will change on those things in the near future once we get them all together in camp, but that sort of change in my perspective I would consider relatively major and somewhat shocking.

B/S:

Sam does in fact win the POY for the Big 12 and has a better year than Jalen.

It's hard to bet against what Riley has done with his QBs, but I think the love for Hurts this preseason has gotten beyond cockamamie, almost as much as the disrespect for Sam has.

BUY.

This has likely been discussed but do you think Whittington will make a bigger impact in the running game or passing game this year?

I think he will make a bigger impact in the running game as he is a running back, but I think he'll have a bigger role in the passing game out of the backfield than we have seen yet from an RB under Herman.

Who do you expect will have more production and playing time at the slot? Josh Moore or Jake smith?

By the end of the season, I think it will be Smith, he's just too dynamic of a prospect and I can't ever let myself forget that I evaluated him as one of the best high schoolers I've ever seen, regardless of position. So, with this in my mind, and understanding that people around the program have warned me not to forget about Moore, I'll stick with my gut reaction which is not to bet against Jake Smith.

Will the defensive line be better or worse than it was last year?

It will be a little worse to start the season, but could round into form through the season to where the drop off doesn't seem as bad as some may expect. As much as the staff loves Graham, he has not been productive and Roach still hasn't found the spark he had as a freshman under Strong in Orlando's scheme. I expect Coburn to be a great one, but he's a RS Freshman. This group can come together and be an overall plus, but it will start out less strong than a unit including two good-to-very-good seniors in Nelson and Omenihu.

What is LJH’s career fantasy ceiling? Kelvin Benjamin?

The ceiling of 2018 Kelvin Benjamin was the floor, he was awful. LJH has much much better hands but is the same kind of slow plodder for an NFL WR. I think we need to make sure LJH makes a team before talking about his fantasy ceiling, though.

And as an aside, I hate Kelvin Benjamin. I'm no Cam Newton Stan and don't even particularly like him, but that behind the back talk about his accuracy that Kelvin pulled upon going to Buffalo was straight bullsh*t. He's a wuss who can't air his grievances to another man's face.

Which running back leads the team is ypc?

Do you expect a decent amount of attrition on the OL(starters/backups) after this season?

Do you expect any of our running backs to score 10+ touchdowns this season? Let’s include receiving TDs.

1) Ingram.
2) There is always SOME attrition, predicting it in any form has only caused me anxiety and whiny bitchiness from a few on this board so I don't answer these types of questions anymore. Sorry.
3) With Sam at QB, goal line carries will be bitten into so I'll guess no.

We can haz Big Vern?

It feels like things have certainly taken an interesting turn as of this morning but I'm not in the business of making those predictions. Read between the lines with what Jason is saying and you'll always be in the loop.

I've been meaning for a while to welcome you back to the Lakeway/Bee Cave area and congrats on the house! I'm over in the Sweetwater neighborhood. Also, if @Ketchum needs anyone in his fantasy football league, I'm game!

Who do you think will have the most rushing TDs this year for the Longhorns? Do you think Sam's rushing TDs are hampering RB recruiting?

Thank you - I drive by your neighborhood almost every day - I am in Travis Settlement just a little bit west, right off of Bee Creek. It's God's Country out here and I'm not going to move anywhere else if I can avoid it.

We actually may need a new member this year, so I'll remind @Ketchum that you'd be a volunteer.

As for the question, it's a little like the answer above. Sam in the RZ definitely hurts the rushing TD numbers of the RBs but I don't think it is enough to hurt in recruiting. For one, if a recruit really is that thrown off by a lack of rushing TDs in the offense, you can always point to Sam and show them why. He's an obvious asset down there. Secondly, a QB who is a legit threat to run in the zone-read attack is a runner's best friend. The ability to hold that end from pursuing down the line to the dive is, in essence, like having a sixth OL to block for you. Finally, if Sam's production is helping the team win big-time games and be successfully in the national spotlight, that contribution by Ehlinger would make up for this piddly type of complaint a recruit may have.

We have to remember, these are kids -- they aren't analytical adults. They want to play on winning teams that they see on TV and who their friends talk about, etc. The difference a projected 7 and 10 TDs (one of the most random occurrences to predict in football) in the decision-making process is foreign compared to these larger considerations.
