Embarrassing OOC Schedule, Baylor

In addition to what I posted above there was a story last summer in Texas Monthly about the SU case. It was not a flattering piece about Baylor. What angered them the most was that Baylor dc Phil Bennett spoke at a booster club in Houston about how he was looking forward to seeing SU play this year. And he said it not just once but twice. At the time the trial was going on.

Now Phil Bennett is an aggie. My next door neighbor played at a&m and they were teammates and through him I met him, nice guy. But Phil Bennett is an aggie and as far as aggies are concerned when it comes to fb winning is worth anything I mean n e thing. More will be revealed and it wouldn't surprise me that if anyone on the team has any involvement in this it's Phil Bennett.

This definitely isn't over.

I think the odds are actually against that. But we'll see.
Back to football talk -- I hope you are right. I've seen enough of Swoopes and Heard. I give Swoopes credit for having a good attitude and embracing the short yardage situations. But him as a full timer is a proven recipe for failure. Buechele has to be redshirted. Which leaves Kai and Merrick. Kai at least looks the part - turn him loose and see what he's got.

I don't hate Baylor. I think their nouveau riche fans are feeling their oats and are more than a bit douchy and the OOC football schedules are fair game to mock but no hate. I have to admit I wasn't really pulling for them to make the playoffs year before last because I thought Briles getting beat out in a playoff tie breaker was complete karma.

What I can't stand though is dishonesty like when Art Briles sabotaged us in the coach's poll in 2008 keeping us out of the national title game. He's a proven liar and I have zero respect for him. And the allegations concerning overlooking rape for the good of football wins much less not lifting a finger to help the raped girls turns my stomach as does anyone trying to defend it in the least. Ken Starr and the AD should be burned at the stake over this.

Look,

The NCAA has lost their teeth. They hold no legal power and can't subpoena anyone under the law. This is a huge ground shift in the dynamics of college football. Teams that realize the NCAA is toothless are taking advantage of it. Until DOJ or the IRS gets involved, it will continue to get worse.

Problem: If Dept of Justice and Treasury get involved in illegal recruiting tactics three things happen-
1. Big, rich private and public universities will fall under scrutiny. Public Schools (and some private) receive federal monies. Does the IRS want to go to war with the state of Mississippi? Do they want to battle it out with the lawyers in Waco? How much will this cost? Billions of taxpayer dollars in legal fees that public universities will pay partly with federal grant monies.
2. The IRS loves college football. The revenues created by college football are in the BILLIONS! You don't crap on a money train.
3. DOJ top brass went to college..... you think the AG Loretta Lynch who went to Harvard but grew up a tar heels fan wants to get involved with what's going on in NC right now? Eric Holder played basketball at Columbia. You think he wanted to stick his nose into what was happening at Louisville? It's not going to happen folks.

The NCAA is dead. Big money donors know it. Unless someone gets seriously spanked in the next two years, recruiting will be like the wild west going forward.

Another high character move by Briles:

The Silsbee HS coach of Patrick Hudson resigned today under pressure. Apparently he went behind Hudson's back and faxed Hudson's LOI to Briles. Something like he went by Hudson's home and asked Mom to sign the papers and went ahead and faxed it without Hudson's knowledge. He and Briles were roommates in college or something like that. He'll probably get a job at Baylor doing something knowing Briles.

Every point you raise is fair, and I take offense at none --- our schedule sucks, I disagree with the douchy comment but can understand it, I certainly get the poll vote issue, and you have the honesty to use the term "allegations" concerning overlooking rape --- if in fact Briles consciously protected a known sexual assaulter, he'll get his in this life or another, but as of right now they are just allegations.

What irritates the heck out of me is the "99%" of Baylor students are raping or being raped, Baylor students and alums are willing to overlook rape for the sake of winning, etc. The rapes are disgusting, and the labeling of an entire student body, alumni base and faculty as supporting rape is disgusting.

He allegedly had Hudson sign the night before (according to Higdon) and then faxed it to Briles at 7am, in advance of Hudson's media announcement, and quite possibly in advance of his decision. Briles then announced it was in, and that was that.

If this above is how it happened, then it is not a binding NLI as they can not be signed before signing day. Unfortunately, Hudson doesnt seem like the type to rock the boat, so it may be a dirty move, but one with little repercussion, other than for this HS coach.

Link? Somebody needs to notify the Silsbee paper.

It would be more believable if you fired the coach and athletic director. What happened to that girl AFTER reporting that she was raped is the sad and disgusting part. As it stands, it looks like a coverup from the start and with complicity from the local media.

There's an investigation under way. This will be pretty easy to uncover.

I haven't seen that vitriol, just that your administration is to blame.

Yeah, they're going to print he got pushed out.

You're right - the words in bold don't look like solid journalism which can be run with.

Baylor fans don't care as long as the football team is winning.
Safe bet not many of those protesters are football fans
200 people? WOW that is a whole 1% of the student body. Guess the other 99% was busy raping or being raped

Just in this thread.

And all true.

OK, I'm sure he resigned immediately after this story came out of his own accord. Seems legit. And small hometown papers are usually such bastions of hard hitting news especially concerning their beloved football team. And it's not like Art Briles has shown a complete lack of character and honesty in the past. Totally my bad.

Getting back on topic...

If Briles wants to keep scheduling cupcakes, he only has himself and his AD to blame when they're left out of playoff talk.

If people note a weakness of yours to you, and you do nothing to correct that deficiency, don't cry to anyone when it comes back and bites you in the ass.
