F*ck Urban Meyer

Meh, get over it OP. UM probably did us a favor and laid out areas for us to look at to do what needs to be done to get back into the Elite conversation. He did us a favor, no hard feelings. Can't hit a homerun if you don't swing for the fences

It's an op-ed... no one knows what was in UFM's head except him, but it's odd how we supposedly offered NFL money and he had health issues, but a month later, he gets NFL money and has no health issues. I'm not going to dwell on this as I cringed at the thought of UFM coming here, but I also was willing to trade my reservations for his highly-likely success here... just glad it worked out as it did. Very excited and happy to have Sark. I also think Sark (if successful) could be here for 10+ years... we were never going to have UFM that long...
Read what a number of his former players said about him coming back to a college program. Most said he would lose half his team to the portal each year because if you were not elite he treated you like shit. I truly believe he felt his style was no longer conducive to CFB

In the end I believe we got the right for Texas...is it as flashy as Urban would’ve been? No but I think it’s a better fit and is probably what we needed. Sark came to the interview with a plan and is executing it

I have never been a fan of UFM (since his shady departure from Florida and the rumors and innuendos that emerged afterwards)... and then there was the "Fack" Smith issue at tOSU... he's an unsavory dude and while he may have brought more success to UT faster, I'm honestly glad we won't have him in our history.

I'm not mad or disappointed that CTH is gone... that needed to happen, but the UFM dance with UT (and especially how it played out so publicly) feels pretty orchestrated in hindsight. Glad he's all better now...

I posted on here when Urban's name first realistically came up that dancing with the devil was a risky undertaking.

We wouldn’t have fired CTH if Meyer had not flirted, so for that I say, thank you CUM.

1. Herman wasn’t fired because of Meyer
2. Meyer saying his health wouldn’t allow him to take the job could be real. Being a college HC at a place like Texas is more work than being HC of the lowly Jags

Tons of conjecture, opinions and guesses in that article that are stated as fact.

I'm not sure why fans get so butt hurt about Meyer turning Texas down. As best as we know, he told Texas he was willing to get back into coaching if the opportunity was the right fit. He even said as much on TV. When all the cards were laid on the table, Texas evidently wasn't the right fit. Jacksonville was. Getting upset over it just comes across as petty. Plus, it wasn't Urban who initiated the pursuit. Eltife wanted a home run and he put all the weight of the BOR behind trying to make it happen. All Meyer did was listen. That it played out in public had zero negative impact on Texas.
Agree. And I still think HEALTH was a main reason I’m not coming to Texas.

He gets to work 6 months a year now, versus 355 days a year. That’s way less stressful on his migraines (aka health). Plus he has family in FL, he gets to be “grandpa” several months a year. An NFL Jacksonville job actually seems like the exact situation he was looking for.

I was neutral on Urban before and I’m neutral on him now.

Why be mad at Urban? We went after him. All he did was listen, think it over, and ultimately said no thanks. He was supposedly interested enough to inquire with other coaches about joining his staff if he took the job. we did everything we could and threw crazy money at him so he took a few weeks to think on it. Whether he came to the conclusion that he had accomplished everything he wanted in college ball or that Texas was just a shit show and he didn’t want to be a part of it, he did us a favor and let everyone think publicly that he had to decline due to health/family reasons.

I think the NFL move was a short term move for him. I think he wants to learn the NFL business system and then come back to college and implement it the same way Saban did at Alabama.

When the likeness issue getting sorted out I think Urban knows he is a step behind in learning the business side of pro sports.

Texas is in good hands with Sark but I fully expect Urban to return to college in a few years. USC should be looking mighty fine for him around that time.

So we’re just going to take some dude’s poorly written speculative article as truth?

All I know is without Urban Meyer we should be stuck with another season with a mediocre football team.
Yes... it's what we do at orangefans... are you new here?

Just kidding... the article just poured some fuel on what I thought all along. Happy to have Sark... UFM is not our problem.

Would have taken Urban in a heartbeat and glad we tried. However, since he isn’t here I feel much more comfortable being on the Saban tree than Meyer. All of those OSU related guys are gigantic douches. It is always shady in that coaches family tree.

You're right... and I am over it... just read the article and felt offended for 10 minutes. This is why you should always wait 24h before "reacting"...

I was never angry with Meyer about rejecting the UT offer.
However, I would not trust him in the slightest or anything he said.

I had a lot of reservations about Urban as well. Having said that when you assessed the two possibilities that seemed most likely, Herman or Urban, it was Urban that allowed UT to move forward and Herman that would have continued to place UT at a disadvantage in regard to achieving the programs objectives. Herman had become unfortunately toxic and the top recruits wanted nothing to do with him and consequently UT with him at the helm.

You have marginal insight into the reality of Sark as it relates to where he is on his journey and who he had become at this juncture of it. Sark's story is a one of success and there was a father on here yesterday/ day before posting about the difficulties his 24 year old son was having and how he was fighting to help his son recover his life and Sark's life is proof of what can happen after someone struggles with and has their life derailed by addiction.

In listening to him (Sark) he sounds like a guy that has walked into his own life and become comfortable with himself and he is obviously a very talented coach who really paid attention and learned from everything he has experienced at all the stops that led him to Texas.

The staff is very good and finally appears to be a draw to lineman on both sides of the ball. I think collectively these guys will help Texas achieve a level of play that we have all hoped for for a long time and I am looking forward to seeing what happens with UT now. Just a couple of months ago there was not much optimism about UT football and now everyone feels a lot better about where we are and where we are going..

You need counseling.

I think/hope we dodged the bullet. I think the Sark is our Moses.....but I thought that twice in the last few years.

not quite sure with Charlie. Herman was the go to guy. We had to get him
I’m all in on Sark. Not since Mack Brown have I been this giddy. Sark gets it.

He is dead to me. My new favorite NFL team is whoever is playing the Jags.

I do feel that Herman’s gravest mistake was alienating Urban as a mentor. You have to imagine that guys like Jimbo and Kirby are still calling Saban all the time. You have to imagine Sark is calling Pete Carroll and Saban a good amount. We have seen the flashes of potential that this team had in the 4 years under Herman. Some advice from a legend like Urban every now and then probably would have benefited Texas.

Hook Em

Herman was so sold on his processes that he thought he could plug in any Tom, Dick, and Harry assistant coaches as well as any recruit and if everyone followed the binder, it would lead to wins.

I tried to tell y’all a while back it wasn’t really about the medical issue, he didn’t want to come to Texas, particularly the Big 12... He thinks the Big 12 is crap conference.

“I also do not know what Urban Meyer’s next move is but he did not say no because his medical condition makes coaching again a nonstarter. Part of it is the Ohio State staff does not want to leave to coach at Texas as previously reported. Something would have to happen to make that status quo change. Money isn’t everything when you have it. The Big 12 isn’t as attractive as it was in 2012. Convincing his Ohio State staff to come is very important and there’s seems to be an assumption being made that when Ohio State’s season ends that will change. Why would the staff want to leave Ohio State all of a sudden? It’s a deal breaker until that changes and asking him again thinking it was the timing is nonsense.”

As promised, here’s where I reference the archived thread:
@DropShot_7
@jttexas05
@bevojp
@Frank Pentangeli
@speedy27
@TheBigStroke
@2009Horn
@Oilfield
@DubaiBob
@The Sundance Kid

Level 1.

Keep thinking it’s not the Big 12 if you like but let’s not pretend a NFL head coaching job isn’t a ton of work... Yes, it was level 1, and just like I said someone was going to write an article about it not being about the medical issue in 2021...

In the end, it likely worked out much better for us but only time will tell.

Hook ‘em!

Spot on Sem'... couldn't agree more about Sark's potential. We know he's an offensive savant - especially when he has athletes.

I'm hoping the journey he's traveled and his most recent experience under Satan and his stint in the NFL has "ripened" him to the point where his past HC opportunities pale in comparison when the dust settles here on the 40.

He seems so authentic that you really want to pull for him and if Texas fans can be optimistic, I'm assuming our players are ecstatic to have him. I really like the idea (if he is who we think he can be) of him having a Mack-like run, but with many more conference championships. It just seems like he can get us over the blow U hump.

Hope you are well, sir. Hook'em

If he was really fckng with us he’d have taken another college job. This was a calculated move. He doesn’t like where college game is headed and the only way he gets mentioned in the same breath as Saban is if he wins in NFL.
