Newark Airport chaos made worse by air traffic controllers who took 45-day ‘trauma leave’ after failures: FAA
At least five air traffic controllers that work at Newark Liberty International Airport are taking trauma leave.

I’m really confused as to why FAA controllers would take 45 days of leave from this incident? I get it’s a stressful 90 seconds where there was loss of communication, and it might be somewhat traumatic?
But do people really take 45 days off for an incident like this especially when there’s already such a shortage of employees? It seems like people taking time off would put more pressure on the people who are still there and make a vicious cycle of more challenging work conditions.
Mental health is very important and we shouldn’t be dismissive of that, but it just seems a bit much. I can’t imagine in other industries like healthcare taking 45 days off from the stressful incident.
