This article is kinda long, but a pretty interesting read. The writer says he works in media and that TV is going to demand a lot of changes as it puts more money into college football including 4 16-team major conferences and an 8-team playoff.

So 4 power conferences would mean...no more Big 12? The article has UT and some other obvious state programs ending up in a Pac-16. Scary part is that I could see this happening.

I think this was posted here recently. There are some interesting points, along with a lot of stuff that's way off-base.

Conferences don't just drop members, what likely will happen is the TV monsters will create a 64 team league and invite 64 teams to join and thus abandon the B1G, SEC, ACC, Pac 12, and Big 12. My guess is the invites will be

Pac 12 - everyone except for OSU and WSU
ACC - Everyone except Wake Forest
SEC - Everyone but Vandy
B1G - Everyone
Big 12 - Everyone but ISU, and KSU,

That is 58 schools, add to that Notre Dame and BYU and you have 60 schools with 4 other schools that could jump in.

UConn, Boise State, Houston, Rice, Fresno State, San Diego State, New Mexico, SMU, USF, UCF, and UTSA

I personally think those last 4 slots would be UConn, Fresno State, Houston, and Boise State.

After that you will see the creation of a second league of 64 teams made up of all the schools that didn't make it into the big league.

That article is actually a good read with a lot of sound logic to it.... I think it will be interesting to see how the landscape evolves over the issues discussed here.... It could be a GREAT move if implemented right.....

It will never happen but ... they could really spice up things up if they added the relegation element used in English soccer --- teams 60-64 each year drop to the lower division, and 65-69 move up. Those bottom feeder November games that formerly had no meaning would get interesting real fast.

All of these conference realignment articles are click bait and mostly pure speculation. Start clicking off major schools and try to get to 64 teams. Inventory is important but its going to be hard to start paying big money for games that wont be a major draw in the teams home market. UH won't outdarw UT & AM in Houston, UCF or USF won't outdraw FSU or UF.

As soon as conferences started moving above the 12 team line......I openly posted here that this was coming. I firmly believe that super conferences will happen eventually. And I hate it.

The greed of the system will end up being what collapses it.

Houston should have been added to the BIG 12 in 1996. Long overdue
This is terrible. This idea. Add a team that adds zero in tv footprint (so the tv money won't expand), makes the payout to existing members smaller (cuts up the pie into smaller pieces for everyone) and makes recruiting in the biggest hotbed in the state even harder. Yeah, no thanks.

What hole have you been hiding in? The BIG 12 has lost the Houston market to the SEC and the University of Houston. Of the top 20 most watched game in Houston during the 2015 season, all were SEC or UH vs AAC opponents like Navy, Memphis, and Temple. Only the Red River rivalry game scored in top 25 within Houston market.

The NY6 Peach Bowl in HOUSTON vs FLORIDA STATE on ESPN with 10.5 rating share was most viewed game involving any Texas University during 2015.

Adding UH will not increase tv dollars no matter how much you holler about it. UH ain't getting in.

Using this map I'd rate:
1-BYU
2-Boise

and then waaaayyyyyy down the list
3-UCF
4-Cincy
5-Memphis

and then waaaaaayyyyy down from that list
6-there still wouldn't be a Cougar High on the list

If there truly is a pot of gold at the end of the rainbow for a conference television contract, then go get Florida State, Clemson, Virginia Tech and Miami (or GA. Tech), and use the TV Contract windfall to pay the ACC exit fees. As our next President says (just want to see if Sholz is reading) - overpay for quality. You want the Florida market? Don't waste your time on UCF or USF - go get FSU. Of course, this would take a commissioner who is aggressively looking out for the long term best interests of the conference.

We need the ACC to blow up due to their inability to establish a conference network.

I would like to see the GOR issue hanging over everyone's head tested. Seems like all the speculation just assumes they hold no merit. If they do hold merit, then all of these discussions are essentially daydreaming. Kind of like what you do if you won the lottery.

Market wise overpaying with best bang for your buck you would want:
1-Va Tech
2-Clemson
3- VA
4-Ga Tech
5-Miami

then way down from that list
6-FSU (FL market belongs to UF and The U, FSU plays third fiddle in FL)

They could not deliver the Houston market 15 years ago but they can now. UH has changed.

Houston is easily the best choice for expansion. The last time Longhorn fans stormed the field to take down the goal posts at DKR memorial stadium was the 1990 win over Houston after UH dominated UT for 3 consecutive years 87-89 including 66-15 drubbing in Austin during the 1988 season.

The NCAA records books are filled with Houston as the Cougars invented the Veer (Triple Option under Yoeman that Darrel Royal then adopted after Houston broke UT's 2+ year winning streak in the 60's. Houston is the only FBS team to score 100 points against another FBS opponent and the high scoring has continued under the the Run and Shoot and the multiple spread offenses of Briles, Holgerson, and the power spread under Herman.

Houston was only major public University in Texas left out of the BIG 12 in 1996 due to influence from Governor Anne Richards that put Baylor in when Houston in turmoil from probation. Everyone gave player incentives in the SWC and some programs like UT still do today. Houston has come a long way since bleacher gate. Attendance has steadily risen from around 15k per game in 2000 to 40k today and UH has won more football games than Texas in the last 10 years with 2, 13 win seasons. The new stadium was built to be easily expanded to 60k. The campus borders the 3rd wards but is build such that its isolated from these neighborhoods on 3 sides. Its really beautiful campus. Major facilities upgrades underway include new indoor practice facilities for basketball and football and new new locker rooms. Tom Herman has stated he will not leave Houston unless the schools backs away from its commitments to support football and President Dr. Renu Kahtor is all in. Besides, we have no trouble recruiting great coaches given 2 of last 3 were Briles and Sumlin. Herman is way better than those guys and I can tell you he firmly committed to Houston despite having earned his Master at UT along with other UT coaches on staff, including Applewhite.

You're wrong Coog, but that's aight. Houston would be a last resort and not a candidate worth adding with only 2 true power programs in the conference.

The best choice is to wait out the ACC and see if we can cherry pick their football schools, other than that...It's time for Texas to join a new league and Houston can replace them.

Houston brings no new revenue(TV market) and only another mouth to feed.

As previously stated the only way UH gets in the Big 12 is if Texas has departed.

I hope you are on the UH Chamber of Commerce. Disagree about UH coming in, but that's a pretty good sales pitch.

you say I'm wrong but all the facts say I am right.

Clemson and the ACC are not coming. They are a better conference not compelled to find travel partners for some far flung school of hillbillies.
Go ahead and keep Houston out of the Big 12. Your house will crumble and UT wont be competitive for another 25 years.

I'd rather the 12 fold up. Texas is holding the biggest bargaining chip of them all, their very own NETWORK. You see, Texas could easily join the ACC and use the LHN to launch the ACC Network while keeping regional coverage. This is one of the many scenarios being discussed.... Texas is sitting pretty!

You don't add schools in realignment simply to do so. What about Texas and OU? Adding another school from Texas doesn't help create divisions unless you put OU in the North. If you do that there are too many scenarios that play out which would water down a great rivalry.

No Thanks!

How does adding or not adding Houston affect Texas' ability to be competitive?

And if it's your opinion that Texas won't be competitive for the next 25 years why would you want your Cougars to attach themselves to Texas anyways?

Are you Daniel Figurelli? If so that makes sense....
