Listened to Jay Bilas on the Ryen Russillio podcast a few weeeks ago - and THAT'S the guy who needs to be the head of college sports...Bilas is smart, has a player's perspective and can communicate very well so people like me and other yutzes can actually understand. He had a great discussion with Russillo about how the players have to unionize and have a collectively bargained agreement with the NCAA or college football teams or whatever system will be in charge.
If they unionize then they can have security and some sort of balance that all parties seem to want. Players could have 1-year deals, multiple-year deals and then player-option or maybe even team option deals. There would be penalties a player or next school would have to make to the original school that signed the player...so if Nico leaves UTenn...then the next school has to pay UTenn...sounds what the Euro soccer leagues do with the transfer fees and all that.
Players would have revenue sharing and insurance and contracts - these contracts would be based on behavior and classroom attendance and would be able to be voided if a player violated any of the contract.
There were other benefits as well, but this 1-year contract for every NCAA Hooper out there is just BS and is killing the sport and teams and the coaches who have to roster build every single year.
It's a really good listen...something has to change
