BOX SCORE

QUICK SUMMARY

On Monday, April 4th, Pete Hansen was named Big 12 Conference pitcher of the week after throwing 8 innings of one-run baseball against the Sooners with 12 strikeouts. On Tuesday, April 5th, Hansen was named to the Golden Spikes Award Midseason Watch List. That list recognized the top 45 players in college baseball and Hansen made the cut along with Ivan Melendez and Murphy Stehly. Hansen showed why he is a man of many accolades on Friday night as threw a complete game shutout, giving Texas a 2-0 win over No. 23 TCU. The Texas offense twice scored on RBI groundouts to TCU middle infielders. Silas Ardoin brought home Douglas Hodo in the fourth and Skyler Messinger knocked in Trey Faltine in the seventh. These plays gave UT two runs, which was more than enough for Hansen on a special night at the Disch.

PETE HANSEN

“I’m trying to put my name up on that wall up there.” The wall referenced by Pete Hansen is located behind the stands at UFCU Disch-Falk Field and currently has these names on it - Keith Moreland, Scott Bryant, Greg Swindell, Roger Clemens, Burt Hooton, Brooks Kieschnick, Huston Street. That is quite a lofty goal for Hansen but that is who he is. Hansen expects a lot from himself and he delivered on Friday. This was the first complete-game shutout of Hansen’s career and it came in front of 7,482 fans. 9 IP, 0 ER, 2 H, 12 K, 1 BB. That is an incredible pitching line that accurately reflects how dominant Hansen was on Friday night. Fastball command is what really makes Hansen the elite pitcher that he is. Hansen controls each side of the plate with his fastball to both right-handed and left-handed hitters. Pete’s fastball is 89-91 MPH and consistently sneaks up on the hitter due to pristine location and Hansen’s smooth delivery. The unquestioned ACE of this staff had it all working against TCU, fastball location, deadly sliders, defensive plays off of the mound, name something a pitcher can do well and Hansen likely did it on Friday. Hansen is now 6-0 on the year with a 2.08 ERA. The lefty has also racked up 64 strikeouts in 52 innings pitched.

TAKEAWAYS

The Longhorns have to be feeling great after a win like that in front of a huge crowd against a good opponent. Pete Hansen gave the bullpen the night off, putting the Horns in a great position for Saturday and Sunday. Hansen is without a doubt one of the very best pitchers in the country. Pete wants UT fans to remember his name for a long time. With the pace he is on, he might just get what he wants.
