Texas BASEBALL - Fall 2024 Roster Preview

The summer is over and after a hectic June and July which saw Texas fire Coach David Pierce and hire Jim Schlossnagle, things have calmed down some. August 1st isn’t just the deadline for players to sign their MLB contracts, it is also the first opportunity for coaches to begin contacting graduating class of 2026 prospects. Let the games begin!

In addition to focusing on recruiting and hosting summer camps, the Texas staff also begins prepping for Fall baseball. Fall practices are useful in a number of different ways. Development is at the forefront, as is getting reps in, but more importantly, evaluation. As this is a new coaching staff, they have yet to get on the field and coach the returning players, which is vital, but equally important is integrating a host of new faces from the transfer portal and incoming freshman. The staff has to quickly decipher what they have, what needs improvement, and begin putting together a lineup and rotation.

This offseason saw sixteen players depart the program, whether due to eligibility, transfer, or MLB Draft. The most notable departures are Jared Thomas (2nd Round), Peyton Powell (UDFA), Gage Boehm (UDFA), and Lebarron Johnson Jr (5th round).
