Kansas States sits at 3-3 having lost last week to the land thieves, 38-17 in Abby Norman. The Wildcats only allowed 138 rushing yards but surrendered 372 through the air.

Texas is coming off its first conference win of the season having beaten the TD out of Iowa State, 27-6.

While the offense flatulated through the first half (again), the defense donned their newly acquired Power Rangers armbands and held the Cyclones to season lows in all offensive totals. It was the best showing for the 'Horns' defense this season as they posted:
  • 14 TFLs
  • 8 sacks
  • 1 fumble recovery
  • 280 total yards allowed
The Purple Wizard and his warlocks are waiting in Manhattan to exact revenge for last year's defeat against Texas in Austin. As usual, the Longhorns will need to play error-free against a K-State team that has only surrendered 3 INTs and 1 fumble all year.

What to expect:
  • Less than 140 rushing yards unless we finally stop the madness of making Kyle Porter run between the center's legs!
  • More middle-anything-plays on offense (after the last two games, Gilbert may be seeing the light)
  • Kris Boy_ doesn't do anything stupid and gets to put the "d" back on his name
  • John Bonney doesn't see the field at all (I can dream, can't I?)
  • Texas wins or loses
Sunny and 74° with light wind is the current forecast for the 11AM-CT kickoff on E$PN-2. LHN's Game Day begins at 9AM.

Baylor has always run small RBs up the middle. Shock Linwood, 5'9" 201, their all time leading rusher. Porter is same height, but 208. Why is Baylor bale to run small backs up the gut with huge success, but UT needs 250 lb kids to do the same? UT runs less quick hitting plays and their QB is not a significant run threat. It is apparent UT is running the MS version of the Briles offense.

Wider splits for one. I know that sounds like a little thing but it's true. Their blocking scheme (mostly zone) also helps.
Plus, lower body strength. I'm told Linwood is a hoss under the squat rack.

Sooooo before anybody gets cute and goes and checks---- guesses on the point spread of this game?

I personally would have thought a pick'em.

Not so much.

Guesses? No cheating.

hell Clob...I thought I saw the spread before we played Iowa State so I guess I cant answer without having cheated.Of course we all know that if you aren't cheating you aren't trying. Then again,,,if I was to cheat why would I worry about lying and saying I didnt cheat.

No no no no---- no the spread on us vs Iowa st but this weeks spread against K state---

line opened at 2.5----- its up to 3 now----- k state is favored.

Elliot was a true freshman playing because defense has not recruited any good DEs and has had to play DTs as DEs in their odd front 3-3-5 that can never set the edge against a good team., because only one true ILB and bunch of OLBs playing inside and DE. This defense will never play good enough to win a true road game.

Kris Boyd has been one of the most dynamic playmakers on this team. He has also been one of the most frustrating when it comes to stupid penalties and questionable decision making (kickoff returns for example). I really like him in his new starting CB role.

Bonney seemed to hold up nicely this past week at cornerback. The coaches made some major changes and this seemed to be one that worked.

This is not a joke; this actually happened... The first question to Breckyn Hager following Coach Strong's presser today:

Q: What kind of mission is this desfense on, Breckyn?
A: Kill everything.
I love the kid's mind set--- he just has to keep that sh!t in check while on the playing field. I can forgive a guy that gets too emotional if he's averaging 4 sacks and a pick 6 a game---- but when you're a non factor on 90% of defensive plays---- it's harder for me to extend that leeway when flags get thrown at you regularly.

Very frustrating yet questionable personal foul called on him after that 4th down stop. All I ever saw him do was wave his hands to signal "incomplete" or in that case, "stopped short".

All in all, didn't hurt us. Just tacked an additional 15 yards on to that Shane to Duvernay bomb!

I thought the flag on Hagar was BS, as was the Offensive PI call on Duvernay. With that said, the young guys need to be more professional and act like they have been there before. I don't accept any unsportsmen like penalties for any reason. Same with Excessive celebration. Celebrate as much as you want when the Clock reads 0:00 and we have sung the Eyes. Keep it in check before then.

K state returns 6 guys on D and they are tiny up front. Not sure what to make of this team. They don't score a ton of points-- they don't run the ball terribly well or throw it with any ferocity. In fact, their starting qb Ertz has half the yards passing that SB has. Their oline is averaging about 6'3 290. Not massive by any stretch. And they only return 1 starter-- the center. They get all their skill guys back-- and have a little speed. There's just really nothing about them that jumps off the page at you. They lost by one point to wvu- and mud holed tech. A few breaks go their way and they beat Stanford-- but they were mud holed by OU.

It's just a weird team.

With all that said I never look past KState. Learned my lesson the hard way many times! This team looks like a cake walk but then always wakes up for Texas. Boggles my mind!

I'll just put it out there. While we fans have treated Charlie Strongs firing as a foregone conclusion I think he's going to present the boosters and administration with quite the choice to make.

Only if he wins out....Then everybody will be happy. 5 percent chance of that happening.

He doesn't have to win out to keep his job. Not that I like it, but I would put money on him staying with a 7-5 season. I think 8 wins and up there is almost no chance he's fired.

At 7-5 I think he's gone. I think the boosters are looking for away to get Herman here, and at 7-5 they can get Perrin to make the move. At 8 wins or more firing him gets a little tricky

That's certainly when the conversation starts imo, but I don't think it's a given. Also don't even think it's a question at 8 wins.

The hidden landmine in the Fire Charlie scenario is Gilbert/Mattox out the door and having to install yet another offensive scheme (the 4th?).

Don't really think that's hidden. It's a given that a new coach is likely going to bring his guys in with him, but he detriment of a poor HC outweighs the benefit of a good OC.

Injury Updates

As noted above, DT Jordan Elliott will have his MCL repaired and miss the remainder of the season. Not good as he was beginning to make his presence felt more consistently on the line.

C Zach Shackelford will be evaluated during the week after having his ankle/leg "accidentally" mangled during the game.

RT Brandon Hodges was reported to miss two games last week due to a leg injury; there are no reports if he'll be returning this week.

RBs Chris Warren and Kirk Johnson (both with knocked knees) are still on the mend and likely out for the remainder of the season.

Man, I had hoped we would have those 2 big backs all season long. Foreman is our best player, but he goes down and the running game is going to take a big hit. I wanted to see them hand lil'jordan the ball late last week.
