Game Week 7 – Kansas State

Man, I had hoped we would have those 2 big backs all season long. Foreman is our best player, but he goes down and the running game is going to take a big hit. I wanted to see them hand lil'jordan the ball late last week.
He goes down and the running game is over.....

We’ll start with the team meeting that was reported on quite heavily last week.

We had a chance to speak with a few people in regards to the happenings inside the locker room, and what we learned was that the reports were mostly exaggerated from the sources we spoke with. While there was an airing of grievances between players and coaches, everyone is on the same page going forward. Our sources specifically told us that any talk of “fireworks” were exaggerated and an attempt to stir drama.

“Everyone knows what’s happened this season. Nobody took it personally, everyone knows this is a team pulling together. Were some harsh things said? Absolutely. There is no divide in this locker room though, everyone is focused on a common goal to win out for each other and for Coach Strong.”

Another source we spoke to didn’t appreciate the attempt to make something more out of it than what it was.

“Guys on this team know that everyone isn’t pulling their weight. Everyone who spoke in that meeting also acknowledged that they had to improve as well. We know there are people out there that want to see us torn apart, but we aren’t going to let them. This is a family.”

Anyone who has ever played knows there are times when harsh truths have to be told in order to achieve accountability, and that sounds like exactly what happened.

Sounds like this team may be ready to journey deep into the Lands of Manhattandor and break the curse. In the words of a young sorcerer slayer, "Kill everything!" (Sir Breckyn of Hager)

Sooooo before anybody gets cute and goes and checks---- guesses on the point spread of this game?

I personally would have thought a pick'em.

Not so much.

Guesses? No cheating.
So I am headed to Vegas this weekend. Any thoughts on your lock of the week? I prefer an early game so I can get off to a good start.

K state returns 6 guys on D and they are tiny up front. Not sure what to make of this team. They don't score a ton of points-- they don't run the ball terribly well or throw it with any ferocity. In fact, their starting qb Ertz has half the yards passing that SB has. Their oline is averaging about 6'3 290. Not massive by any stretch. And they only return 1 starter-- the center. They get all their skill guys back-- and have a little speed. There's just really nothing about them that jumps off the page at you. They lost by one point to wvu- and mud holed tech. A few breaks go their way and they beat Stanford-- but they were mud holed by OU.

It's just a weird team.
K-State is always weird. This is an example of superior coaching. They are small, lack length, and are not really athletic. They should be Kansas. But they aren't because of Snyder. They will be Kansas 5 minutes after he leaves. Mad respect for the Wizard.
I have always wondered what he could do at a place with top end talent. He is the best at doing the most with the least. He might not be able to coach up 5 stars who come in with big heads. But good Lord he gets the most out of 2 star JUCO's and guys with no other P5 offers.

They were -14 last time the Ags went to T-town, but I don't see it getting that ugly.
Hope you right. But I doubt it. A&M is good, Alabama is ultra elite. Their depth is the difference. We fall off the cliff at DE & S when the 2's come in. Our CB's are subpar. They will wear us down, and hit big plays in the second half. I hate being negative, but the cream always rises to the top. And they are just superior. It sucks.

i think ag keeps it relatively close due to the d-line. don't think it will get away from them early but i do think bama wins

From 93-early 2000s or 2003 KSU had talent to win a league title or MNC, but they faced Nebraska under Osborne and pretty good CU teams, then UT and OU came up, while the other two went down. NCAA rules changed and they could not fly recruits directly to Manhattan and they say that hurt their program. He is likely doing a better job now w/o the prop 48s and partial qualifiers and direct visits. That 98 team that pounded UT got loads of penalties and fizzled out in Alamo bowl loss to Purdue after choking in Big 12 title game vs Aggies. All his hard work had culminated with that team in 1998. The El Roberson III teams were good and Colin Klein was just about the best they can do now, but he has coached teams with big talent at KSU before. /he gets JUCOS, but he used to get the best JUCOS, but not anymore because of rule changes.

Joey freshwater and Saban want to send a message to errbody out there. Bama does to aggy what they did to rocky top.

Whether it be due to the quarterback play, the offense, or both, 13 different receivers have caught a pass this season, with seven different receivers catching touchdowns. In addition, six players have more than 10 catches, and eight players are averaging more than 10 yards per catch.

Even with the distribution, Buechele said he does have one favorite target.

“We have so many athletes on our side of the ball,” Buechele said. “You try to give them all the ball just to see what they can do. My favorite receiver is the open guy. I try and hit him.”

The impressive thing against Iowa St. was the size of the wide outs --- except for Duvernay, and he's fast as a bullet.

Texas fans might want to gear up for a physical — and ugly — football game on Saturday.

Kansas State is known for keeping the ball on the ground, and Strong said it will try "grind it out" on Saturday. The team counts on its talented backfield in senior running back Charles Jones and junior quarterback Jesse Ertz, who have combined for six touchdowns this year.

The Wildcats attempt the fewest passes in the Big 12 this season, a contrast from the pass-heavy attacks Texas has faced so far. The Longhorns have already played three of the nation's top-15 pass-happy offenses in their first six games.

While Kansas State's offense presents a different challenge for Strong's defense, the unit can still score points. The Wildcats have scored at least 26 points in four of their six games, including out-scoring the nation's No. 5 scoring offense.

Score prediction: IT's going to be a grind it out type of game....20-17 Purple Kryptonite.

Midseason Top247 Longhorns

While Texas has had mixed results this season, offensive lineman Connor Williams has been a consistent bright spot for the Longhorns.

Williams along with junior running back D'Onta Foreman, linebacker Malik Jefferson and freshman quarterback Shane Buechele where all named Wednesday to the midseason Top247 rankings, which ranks the top college football players in the country. Williams led the pack at No. 31, a large jump from his preseason ranking of No. 106.

Williams has led an offensive line that has helped Texas gained a total of 1,433 rushing yards this season, much of which came from Foreman, who was ranked at No. 61 in the midseason Top247.

Jefferson, who has tallied 34 tackles and two sacks this season, came in at No. 136 while Buechele rounded out the group of Longhorns in the midseason Top247 at No. 221.

What makes their addition to the Top247 rankings more impressive, is that Foreman and Buechele were not previously ranked in the preseason rankings.

I think Texas gets a big road win. KSU is closer to Kansas than a team that can grind out a win. I see them as a smaller version of Notre Dame, and with our new defensive back wrist bands I think we will have a strong pass defense. Our dline is starting to play very well (Oklahoma not withstanding) so I think we will win the LOS pretty handily.

Offensively, I think we will not be able to run the ball in the first half with much efficiency, however I think as the game goes on you will see KSU's defense ware down and those 3 to 5 yard gains become 10 to 15 yard gains.

My prediction
Texas 42
KSU 16

What has Malik Jefferson done to be all conference, much less DPOY? He's not the best defensive player on his own team.

Granted he's not having the highlight reel games he had last year, but when you're a freshman all american, your sophomore years rolls around and coaches start game planning against you. Just the way a good OC works. Neutralize the threat and go the other direction. Plus, with usually only 3 down lineman, who's protecting him? He's been drawing double teams like a mad man. If he stays healthy he will be a 1st round pick on sundays.

Book it.

I may not like our chances at a win this weekend, but I hope we go in dry, tear it up and leave with one.
