There hasn't been much for us Longhorn fans to cheer about lately and I know a lot of us don't follow the NFL. The Raiders have given me reason to watch they're very entertaining. But I caught some of the Baltimore/Cincinnati game waiting for the Raiders game to come on. So if you didn't know it yet you know it now.

Former UT kicker Justin Tucker kicked not just one but three fg's from 50+ yards today, he had 4 for the day and the Ravens won 19/12. Fwiw, they're tied for first in their division. Here's the good part. Justin has made 34 consecutive fg's dating back to last year.

UT has a great tradition of kickers lets hope new coach Tom Herman brings that back. Phil Dawson has had the most successful career as far as the NFL goes, but Justin is going to pass him up and he's only in his fifth year. Remember it was Justin that made it 27/25 forever. He was a starter as a rookie on the Ravens SB champion. In fact he almost scored a Super Bowl td on a fake fg, he was tackled less than a yard from the end zone. I'm sure all Horn fans are very proud of you

The guy is a beast at kicking! Like you said we've lost the ability to recruit a great kicker lately and we truly need that back. Phil Dawson is still doing it as well at 41.

And to top it off, he pulled this classic out at the presser yesterday after the game:

[Tucker] "It smells like updog in here..."
[someone off screen] "What's updog?"
[Tucker] "Oh, hey man not much, what's up with you?"

When you give all the kids trophies for just showing up, actually making the kicks aren't as important. Thus the current crop of kickers who lack the intestinal fortitude of your average golfer.

Same could be said for tackling.

Oh and the other day I was looking up Justin Tucker and I found out that in the off season the Ravens put a franchise player tag on him. Now how many kickers do you think get a franchise player tag put on them? Not many I can assure you. Justin is probably the best paid kicker in the NFL right now. What makes me burnt orange proud is that after Justin signed that contract he's gone out and hasn't missed a fg this year and he's certain to be the NFL's first team all pro kicker for the second time in his career. What I'm trying to say is how many athletes in professional sports do you see who sign their big contract and then their careers go in the tank? Happens all the time in professional sports. If the Baltimore Ravens make the playoffs Justin Tucker will be a big reason why. But you know what I think of most when it comes to Justin Tucker?

We do have a great kicking tradition at Texas.

Absolutely no ****ing reason we should ever have a marginal kicker.

Missed his first FG of the year against the patriots, it was blocked after a patriot hurdled the snapper. Unlucky really.
