I'm 2000 miles away. My family members are no longer in the loop. I want to hear accurate accounts, no speculation there's no sin if you don't know.

This is what I gather. We have a new president Greg Fenves. We have a chancellor Admiral McRaven, I don't know how long he's been here. And we have an interim ad Mike Perrin. They're outstanding men in their chosen fields perhaps brilliant. But these men appear to be learning on the job when it comes to running an athletic department.

Is this accurate? If so who's behind the Tom Herman or bust job? Jamail's dead, McCombs is 89 years old. I mean everybody forgot about Tom Herman. Then he beats LV and all of a sudden we end up with social media nightmare. This TH to LSU or Texas is what I don't like about social media.

Just my take from the cheap seats: Tom Herman always wanted to be at UT, being an alumni. His folks were reaching out to UT as much as vice versa. Think about it. He's coming off a big bowl win over FSU, then spanks OU. Cougs start 5-0 and in the playoff mix. Then with slow starts at USC, PennSt, UT, Auburn, LSU - he basically quits on the Cougs to entertain offers. Then suddenly all those schools get back on track and those coaches are safe. Even at 5-4 it looked like Strong would stay. Then we start losing again, Herman sees an opening, throttles Louisville, and next thing you know, he's got his dream job here.

Here's the head scratcher for me: UH players would go all out for a coach (Herman) who abandoned them, beating UL, rallying in Memphis, than Texas players who profess their love for Charlie only to go down without a fight to Kansas and TCU. I guess if Herman can get players he's not loyal to to play for him, just think what he can do for those he's committed to.

Who said Herman quit coaching at Houston?

I agree with this 100. They lost by 6 to Navy. Why can't people take time to think that there is no sin in losing to Navy. They have an outstanding fb program and a top notch coach of their own in Ken Niumatalolo, who imo could hold his own coaching at a P5 school. They're in the top 25, they're playing for their conference championship because they beat Houston. If they win and Western Michigan loses they'll be in a NYS bowl game. So once again why is it so terrible that they lost to Navy? The loss to SMU. Hey that's why they play the games. Memphis was nothing but distractions no surprise.

I'll tell ya if a big time program were to look at ken numatalolo. They might just get a gem. Dude can coach and he has a lot of limitations. I don't know if he's taken as seriously as some others are.

Navy punted twice in.................November.

Besides, the Navy/UH game was played in a monsoon.

Nicholas Sparks is jealous of you.

Sorry guys, I didn't mean to disrespect Navy. Navy (and Air Force often) have been solid programs for several years. No argument there.

Rather I was thinking of Herman similar to Jim Harbaugh his last year with the 49ers. Recall midyear, all the talk was where would Harbaugh go the following year. It's like he was halfway in Michigan while still on the 49ers sideline. The 49ers started 7-4 and finished 8-8 after 3 straight NFC title games. Perhaps just coincidence.

Never heard of Nicholas Sparks until now.

Just curious what do you mean by limitations? Your sentence is a little bit confusing he can coach and has a lot of limitations. I don't know about him coaching at a blue blood. But a place like TT, or a Pac XII school he might do very well.

I would guess he means the limitations of having to recruit coaching for a military academy. On the flipside there are no athletic scholarship limitations because there are no athletic scholarships. The entire student body is on scholarship. So you can carry a lot more players on the team, but the overall factor of recruiting for the military academy certainly eliminates a large pool of elite talent.

Not sure about the salaries, but give me the Naval Academy over Texas Tech for anything other than financial reasons.

It was just coincidence. There are 2 main reasons the 49ers flamed out that year. 1) They had a bunch of injuries, resulting in Kaepernick getting sacked 50+ times (which I think was close to a record) that year. 2) They didn't play Seattle until the last 5 weeks of the season.

Herman didn't check out and turn it back on either. The problem is everybody was anointing Houston as the next Alabama, and that was simply never the case.
