For football, part of the reason I think former Bama LB Ben Davis is coming to Texas is because he will eventually be joining our staff as a GA coach and to help improve the locker room and rub off on the team with his practice habits. He brings the Alabama team culture and leadership Sark wants here.
I read that first sentence 4 times and still don’t understand it.Someone has to hold the pick pads the starters pick-roll on. I kid! 🤘🏼 Welcome to the 40!. This is Jake...our barber, LOL
That's actually zero stars.
I find it curious a 5* with amazing practice habits doesn’t make an impact.
This appears to be the Jesus looking wild haired tatted up guy they had last year??
Must be a good practice player and team mate.Saturday 1:05 update:
A well-placed sourced confirmed Benson will join the Texas program and fill a similar role to the one he did in Lubbock last season. Chris Beard is an enormous fan of Benson and the value beyond the on-court basketball he brings to a program.
Not asking too much. 12-15 points, all coming at critical times. If he can hit 4-5 three’s a game in critical times, bring him in.
Not his game. I know its a shock to some that a white SG isn't a dead-eye shooter but he's basically a smaller version of Cunningham. All hustle, all effort, all heart, all of the time.If he can hit 4-5 three’s a game in critical times, bring him in.
Your take on Davis...Academic All-Big 12 First Team. Obviously pretty bright kid.
Could have a future in coaching and eventually be apart of the support staff for Beard one day? He also helps the locker room and culture that Beard is wanting here.
Might be why Beard is bringing him in to go along with filling the end of the bench.
Lubbock newspaper had this to say when he entered the portal:
The Texas Tech men's basketball team lost a part of its culture Thursday afternoon.
While they will continue to be a gritty defensive squad, which goes all-out on both sides of the floor, one player who epitomized that mantra will not return.
Avery Benson, the most tenured, experienced and winningest players over the last four years, announced through social media that he would "explore the options for the next chapter of my life."
He was always one of the hardest working players on the team and the team will miss his intensity on and off the court. Whenever Benson made a play for this team you couldn’t help but cheer for the guy, and that won’t change no matter who he’s playing for.

Oh my mistake. I guessed the topic morphed into a different discussion. This quote was about Ben Davis
Your take on Davis...
Where does this come from? Why give up a valuable schollie to someone who has underachieved in a huge way at a huge position of need because he might be a coach someday?? A #5 overall player and 5* sure fire NFL prospect may not have the practice mentality you believe and may be entitled. Give me more NMST LBs that produce on the field any day. If our coaches are bringing in guys hoping he's a coach.....well, man, I don't even know what to say sbout that.
I think he was brought here because a Bama 2nd or 3rd stringer might be a 1 or 2 here at this stage.

Inside Texas is reporting Benson committed to Texas. We’ve reached out to Benson and a couple other sources but have yet to receive confirmation. Given his presence around the program and the team yesterday, it certainly seems the expectation is he’s joined or will join the program in some capacity.
******
Texas Tech transfer guard Avery Benson was with the team at yesterday's baseball game sporting burnt orange. A couple Texas players also shared Instagram stories with him as well. Haven't received official word if he's joined the team, but he sure looked like he was part of the program in some capacity. He was a junior last season and played 5.2 minutes per game; if he joined Texas, he would be a very end-of-rotation player at best.
AMENI don't think that is the main reason he was brought in but it's an added bonus. Davis is obviously going to play more than this basketball transfer. He was one of the leaders in the Bama locker room, and one of the hardest-working players on the team.
Similar to Thornton coming over from LSU and quickly becoming a leader and having a motor in Spring practices that our current team isn't used to seeing.
You need players like this on a young team.
WhyCan someone please tell the kid to get a haircut and shave
We have 5 extra ships to play with and that's regardless of what happens or doesn't with Sims. Perryman will probably also get a ship although he's a really good player in his own right. Is he on scholarship? I would hope not but, I guess we have a few.
Both the football and basketball portions of that make perfect sense when you understand what they bring in from a culture standpoint. How to work hard and stay humble, even when you aren't playing as much as you want too. Good pickups. Welcome to the 40, Avery and Ben!Academic All-Big 12 First Team. Obviously pretty bright kid.

yesFill a similar role? OK...but not sure what that means. Scholarship player?
He was brought by coaches who know him. I’ll trust the coaches of a natty on this one.Your take on Davis...

No kidding. These coaches aren't chumps sitting on the couch with their IPad, trusting amateur evaluations and rooting for guys in high school to please commit. They have seen this guy enough to know that, although he may not be enough to crack the Bama roster on the regular, he is different, in a good way, from anyone we have on our roster, AND he brings it daily. They KNOW what they are getting. He was brought by coaches who know him. I’ll trust the coaches of a natty on this one.

Hearing he dines daily at Taco Bell hoss. They say he is gritty, which leads me to believe that he is also . . .
heady and a lunch pail guy.
Wood be awesome if he is here to coach on court before become a GA coach off the court. Honestly that is the wet dream of many fans of coarse.
I was being a smart ass. Referring to blocking pads used in football being used in scrimmage. Poor attempt to be funny.I read that first sentence 4 times and still don’t understand it.
