How many Longhorns get drafted this weekend

I doubt that any of our guys will go on Thursday night but I honestly think by Saturday we'll have one of our largest groups in a long time. One of our best in the 7 round era. From 2014/2017 we had very few players drafted in 2014 we had none first time in 75 years that happened.

But last year we had 5 players that were drafted or signed as a fa. Three of them started, a fourth got playing time, and the fifth was injured and out for the season.

You know we might have 9 players that will get drafted or sign a fa contract. We might have 7 on defense and 2 on offense. And even if we don't have that many I still think we'll have a good number our best in a long time.

The good thing at least for me is that coach Herman and his staff have shown they can take a player and take their game to the next level. They showed that with the players they inherited. Imagine what they will do with the players that they recruited. That's not a stretch. I think a part of that is that the TX players finally have coaching stability.

So that's my production 9

Nine is a reasonable — if optimistic — guess if you’re including FAs (as you are). It’s going to be more like three or four guys drafted, though. Or two, if it’s a really bad weekend — i.e., if teams are too skittish about LJH’s speed and GJ’s size.

I admit I'm a fan first. But beyond Hager I think the other seniors on the defense will get a chance. I'm thinking Beck and LJ on the offense. Coach Herman is showing he can develop NFL worthy players.

The podcast fanatic perspective said that Davis, Boyd, Omenihu, and Johnson did great at the combine. I'm thinking isn't Wheeler, Nelson, and PJ3 good enough to get a fa chance?

Anderson, Charles O., Nelson

Possible draftees- Gary Johnson, LJH, Boyd, Davis

UDFA- Hager, Watson, Locke, Wheeler, Beck

Anyone else?

I’ll take 5 drafted.

I don't see how Gary Johnson doesn't get drafted. I guess his frame is a bit small? His combine numbers were pretty solid. I know he gets climbed a lot and doesn't always fit right, but he is very fast and a good tackler.

Kris Boyd has a pretty high grade after the combine and with how much teams need secondary depth I highly doubt he doesn't get drafted.

LJH will get picked by someone. He is a hybrid type and a mismatch problem in the slot.

I will say 5-6 will get drafted.

Anderson, baring injuries is going to have a very long and productive NFL career. I don't know where he gets drafted, but 10 years from now when they look back at this draft they are going to wonder how he wasn't a 1st round pick.

I should probably move Nelson and Johnson's spots

Looking around some draft sites; Charles O, Johnson, Boyd, and Beck are the four expected to be drafted.

Just for fun I'm going to predict that Gary Johnson will be the first horn to be drafted tonight.

The stuff I was looking at have Boyd at 4th-5th -- so it looks like he should get drafted.

LJH - how could he possibly be a free agent? The dude was a beast on the field - his production speaks for itself. But if his measurables are THAT bad that he won't even get drafted - then who was whispering in his ear to turn pro?

Just another reminder about the mediocrity of Big XII defenses. Last night the Seahawks drafted LJ Collier from TCU. He is the first Big XII defensive player to be drafted in the first round since Malcolm Brown in 2015. That's four years people.

But otoh the Big XII is starting to produce NFL caliber receivers. It wouldn't surprise me if Hollywood Brown has a better NFL career than Kyler Murray.

And besides LJ watch out for Hakeem Butler, Antoine Wesley, and David Sills V. These guys are certain to be drafted.

Well the first and second rounds are in the books. Only 5 Big XII players chosen so far 3 from OK and 2 from TCU. Bummer.

I don't have much to do so I'm watching the 2nd and third rounds of the draft. I can't understand the these receivers being taken ahead of Big XII receivers. We played against Mecole Hardman in the SB. I can name at least 3 Big XII receivers better than him. And the same goes for Paris Campbell. I guess we'll find out.

Well BringBackRoyal you were right. I always come from a fans point of view. But through three rounds and 102 players drafted and at the most 11 Big XII players got drafted. I find that hard to believe.

But about us. None of our players were drafted? For real? I mean a lb from KS gets drafted and Gary Johnson doesn't? I mean someone from Old Dominion, some obscure college in SD that I've never heard of, and a punter, all got drafted and and not just Johnson, but Boyd and Omenihu don't?

You were right . But I sure that some of our guys will make those scouts eat their words.

It's been a tough stretch for Texas and the NFL. I think it is a major challenge when a team has little consistency in the coaching and S&D ranks.

Mack's late recruiting classes were better on paper than in reality and for some of those guys, they went through 3 coaching staffs and S&D programs. Tough to progress as much as possible.

Strong brought in some highly regarding recruiting classes, but again, lack of stability has probably held some of those guys back. His best guys for the most part left early last year - and had they stayed would have been picked in first 3 rounds this year.

It of course takes time for a new coaching staff to start paying dividends with players going pro. It's not hard to imagine some of the rising Freshmen, Sophomores and Juniors being called pretty early in future drafts. It does seem that Yancey McKnight is transforming bodies better than the previous two S&D guys and position coaches seem to be doing the same. I am hopeful the narrative of Texas not producing NFL talent will die down soon, but it will still take several seasons.

Yet UFA Poona Ford graded out as the best NFL rookie for 2018 and was the #5 interior lineman against the run in the NFL.

Holton Hill was #6 in pass efficiency allowed and #2 in incompletions forced making him the best rookie DB.

Poona wasn’t drafted due to the NFL's love of measurables and Hill because he couldn't stop smoking weed for 4 weeks with millions on the line.

In addition Michael Dickson made the Pro Bowl as a rookie.

Almost all our draftees and fa's did great last year and I thought we would top it this year.

Into the 5th round, still waiting for the first Longhorn to be drafted.

However, Kris Boyd is #3 overall still left on ESPN’s board, and Charles Omenihu is 16tb overall.

Maybe I should have set the over under a little lower.

Let me say something to you about the draft and the 1996 horns. It was one of the best senior classes in TX history.

Anyway I thought Mike Adams would be a high draft choice and have a long career in the NFL. But be only played one year.

Then there was Taje Allen. He was terrible as a sophomore. But he improved his last two years. He for drafted by the St Louis Rams I thought big deal. But two years later the Rams won the SB and Taje Allen got a SB ring as a nickel back. He played 5 years which is considered a full NFL career.

Who would have thought

Serious question....Boyd was expected to go in the 3rd round. Is there something that’s happened here lately to make his stock fall like this?

I would have thought he’d have been drafted by now.

Haven't seen any mock that didn't have Boyd 5th-7th.

I think 3rd is pretty high for what most were thinking. 4th-7th makes sense for him

My bad. ESPN’s board has him as the 86th best player overall. I just extrapolated that out to be 3rd round, all things being equal.

Boyd off the board 7th round pick 217 to Minnesota

Only 26 picks left and only 2 Horns drafted. Kris Boyd who led the cb's with the most reps on the bench press at the combine finally gets drafted.

Gary Johnson who had the second best 40 yard time among the lbs has yet to be drafted.
