One year we did not have any but for a number of years Texas always had players drafted.Ou and other schools make this point to recruits but.Texas will catch up/

Maybe seeing the Draft reports will tell the other good Horns to stay in school and get better..if your good the money is always waiting on you..

Serious question....Boyd was expected to go in the 3rd round. Is there something that’s happened here lately to make his stock fall like this?

I would have thought he’d have been drafted by now.
Ya I can tell you exactly what happened. Coaching staffs watched his film.

I call him charcoal for a reason .

Last year Poona Ford made the Seahawks as a fa and he ended up as a starter. He can be source of support because he was a fa too. DD has NFL caliber talent.
I wasn't quite sure so I looked into this a bit. What is the financial difference between being a 7th round draft pick and a UDFA?

Poona Ford was an UDFA, and probably one of the better ones at that. He was signed by the Seahawks who gave him an $8,000 signing bonus. After the $8,000 no money was guaranteed (this is true of all rookie contracts round 4 on). His salary for his first 3 seasons is 480, 570, 660.

RJ McIntosh is a DT signed in the 5th round by the Giants. He received a $320k signing bonus and a non-guaranteed $2.5 million contract with 4 year salaries of 480, 570, 660 and 750.

Jullian Taylor is a DT signed early in the 7th round. He received a $98k signing bonus and a non-guaranteed $2.5 million contract with 4 year salaries of 480, 570, 660 and 750.

Joshua Frazier is a DT signed late in the 7th round by the steelers. He received a $72k signing bonus with a non-guaranteed $2.5 million contract with 4 year salaries of 480, 570, 660 and 750 (look familiar?). He was cut by the Steelers prior to the season and was added to the Lions practice squad where he earned another $22k before being cut.

So, the advantage of being drafted vs UDFA is the signing bonus you receive. This is guaranteed money and the earlier you get picked the bigger the amount. Beyond round 3, signing bonuses are less than 1 million and by round 7 are less than $100k.

The contracts players sign, from round 4 all the way to being an UDFA, are the same. About 2.5 million over 4 years. None of it is guaranteed however so it is all contingent on making the team. Poona netted $488k as an UDFA in year 1 vs Joshua Frazier who made $94k as a 7th rounder who got cut, practice squaded and then cut again.

The advantage of being an UDFA is that if you sign a contract less than 4 years, you can get your second contract earlier. If Poona continues to have success and stay healthy, his 4th year contract could be significantly higher than a guy like RJ McIntosh (750k) who was drafted in round 4 and Poona could end up making more money in the league than RJ.

The disadvantage to being drafted is that you are locked into playing for a team that might be very bad for your career. If I weren't picked in the first 3 rounds, I'd probably be hoping not to be drafted at all. Then I could pick the landing spot that gave me the best chance for success. Andrew Beck is going to a great organization, if he can't make it there, I'm pretty sure he can't make it in the NFL.

Nine is a reasonable — if optimistic — guess if you’re including FAs (as you are). It’s going to be more like three or four guys drafted, though. Or two, if it’s a really bad weekend — i.e., if teams are too skittish about LJH’s speed and GJ’s size.

Well BringBackRoyal, here I was all upset that only 2 of our players got drafted. But I did say that counting free agency we might have 9 players. lol well I hit the nine mark in fact it was 10. For reasons I don't understand Breckyn Hager got a fa contract. I'm not bragging actually I'm pissed. We should have had more than 2 drafted. Here's to hoping that a lot of these boys follow in Poona Ford's footsteps and make those scouts who didn't draft them eat their words.

Exactly. And you are not even locked in, they can cut you at anytime. Then you have to hope a team you might fit better with picks you up mid-season. It becomes a major challenge at that point.

Now, the signing bonus in round 4 is still no joke - though not enough to make you a millionaire, but a UDFA with a successful 5-6 year career could still out earn a 4th rounder who only lasts 3-4 years.

Boyd off the board 7th round pick 217 to Minnesota. Looks like Boyd will be taking Hill spot.

Wait, the Viking's drafted Hill, and now they draft Boyd? Jfc after this bust the Vikings will never draft another Longhorn.

Hill, as a rookie, was #6 in pass efficiency defense and #2 in incompletions caused percentage for the league. He wasn’t drafted due to a failed drug test.

LJH - how could he possibly be a free agent? The dude was a beast on the field - his production speaks for itself. But if his measurables are THAT bad that he won't even get drafted - then who was whispering in his ear to turn pro?
he had the worst combine in history

First they draft a qb front Duke of all places. What's his name Daniel Jones? Then they sign Breckyn Hager.

I know you can't run a successful franchise by pleasing the fans with each pick but the Giants are making it that much tougher on Jones before his career even begins. Taking him that high and before Haskins means the relentless New York media and fans will be putting that much more pressure on him right from the start.

It'll be a little like Ricky Williams in New Orleans. He never had a chance in that town. With Ditka trading an entire draft for him, anything less than a Super Bowl title meant Ricky was a failure.

He's very close friends with Eli and Peyton. Eli will get him a hall pass for the time being. But once the expiration date kicks in, he better be ready to play.

Fair enough. I don't watch the NFL anymore, so I wouldn't know. I was just assuming from what Robo said that Hill didn't work out, so they were replacing him.

49 of 144 early entries went undrafted
I don't know the metrics well enough to know if this is a high % or low %. I would think if a full third of people didn't get drafted that's a pretty good showing.

Then again, I'd have to see historical data to be able to draw that conclusion.
