Hurricane Harvey

The eye went right over top of cuero. I wonder if Metcalf is in one piece.

Im in Austin and actually lost power for 19 solid hours yesterday... roads around the apartment were flooded out so I was basically stuck inside with nothing to do...... :/ kinda crappy, but it sure as hell could have been much much worse.

A sports angle to this - The Texas Rangers refused to exchange their home series vs.Astros in September with the road series vs. Astros this week, forcing Astros to move the games this week to Tampa. Now that is sorry. This is turning into an angry rivalry.

I have been a Rangers fan for a long time. The current ownership and management are sorry. Last year was an anomaly. This team is going nowhere fast. At least the Rangers could hit the ball in the past. Now they can't hit or pitch.

Classless move by the Rangers. I hope there is a lot of public condemnation heaped on them for this.

I've heard from a Clear Creek HS grad who is active in League City that shelters don't need manpower, but do need hygiene products (TP, tampons, pads, wipes), hand sanitizer. Some need more cots. I'm trying to find out the best ways to gather & deliver things like that to the shelters most in need.

Edit: Here's a list of vetted ways to help out the flood victims: CBS News: How to help Harvey flood victims (link)

The rangers were looking at it as a way to stick it to the Astros not the actual city, and to their point switching wouldn't actually help anyone other than the Astros, but it's horrible optics none the less.

How would this be helping the Astros? You're just swapping the location of each series. Each team will still get the same amount of home games. I do understand that the thinking might be that by the Rangers having the series at their place during the closing run might be to their advantage, but the reality is, they don't have much of a shot to make it to the post season anyway. Counter that with the Cowboys welcoming the Texans to practice at their facility this week and hosting the last preseason game at AT&T Stadium on Thursday, makes the Rangers look even worse.

Now that I have re read your post I understand a little more the Rangers point of view......

Now I absolutely know it was a shit classless move by a shitty organization. It would have cost them nothing...they are not going anywhere this season...sold their best pitcher because they were out of it and were just playing out the string. Bad optics?...that was about the worst move I ever witnessed from any sports organization anywhere any time. I suspect the rangers will discover condemnation from all of baseball when this story gets out. ...All for a chance to stick it to Houston. good luck to the Rangers going forward....they will need it.

Worst move ever in sports, of course not. It was absolutely classless by the Rangers though, I certainly agree on that. Had it been another franchise I bet it wouldn't have been an issue. It's a shame that the front office couldn't rise above their pettiness.

when the day comes that Jerra Jones shows more class than you do, it is time to examine yourself from the inside out.....and if you know of a worse move I would be interested to hear about it.

Titans donated money to JJ Watts foundation as well. Push away the rivalry and add the human aspect of all of this and it's awesome. The Rangers are getting a social media slam right now and they deserve every ounce of it.

Hey guys, I won't be too active on here for a while. My mom's house, in Beaumont, got flooded. The entire neighborhood is wiped out, probably 6-8 feet in the house and not much of it is gone at this point. I'll be heading that way soon, whenever the water starts going down.

I'm hoping for good Texas football to lift my spirits while we work on the recovery process.

Dude, that sucks balls. But as long as your mom is ok, all that other stuff can be rebuilt. Chin up.

I know I should be thankful, and I am, but this is getting old:
  • Panic-buying of gasoline
  • Shortages of gasoline / Long lines at any station that actually has some (and we're in central Texas)
  • Price gouging

That sucks. I feel for you and your family. So many people in Southeast have lost a lot. That's what insurance is for. At least you still have your mom and no one perished.

Hook'em!

Imagine if there were ever a real bank run. Where are people storing all of the overpriced gasoline?

Am I correct in hearing that a lot of these folks may not have had flood insurance due to living well away from water but they flooded and their homeowners insurance may not cover? If that's the case I can see a lot of folks just walking away and saying f$$ck it if they still owe money on their house but insurance won't cover. That could really throw the banking industry into a tailspin.

Good Luck and glad your mom is ok. We had flooding in our rental so we'll be busy today as well. No were near 6-8 feet though. I hope we win today that will make work a little easier.

Sorry to hear of your loss. Will her insurance cover the loss ?

Sadly...less than 20 % of those in Houston had flood insurance.....It was the same with Ike in Galveston. What are people thinking? I know shops in Galveston were closed for over a year if not forever because "I couldnt afford the insurance"

I am not gonna rag on those poor souls that are now in a bad position, but I am not sure everyone thought it all through.

Sadly, many people do not have flood insurance. It's relatively cheap (I pay $450/year where I live), compared to what it would cost to repair the damage from rising water, which homeowners doesn't cover.

It could get very interesting. If the debt ceiling is stalled, if this other hurricane comes on shore, if the insurance companies fear no new tax reform, this storm could seriously fvck up the economic balance.

The simple fact is that homeowners insurance will not cover ANY damage due to rising water. Not only that....in coastal areas, homeowners insurance will NOT cover windstorm damage . Windstorm is a separate policy....flood insurance is only sold through the govt....it IS cheap. I did not get flood insurance here in SA as I live on top of a hill, but even so I am at risk. If a water main breaks and I get flooded, the repair is all on me. Floods can come from things you dont always think of.....remember the homes swept away in the 90's below Canyon Dam?....It had never ever happened before....that did not help those that lost everything

When we lived in Kingsville we carried all those extra policies even though our area had not flooded in the last 150 years. Things are not like they were 150 years ago.....lots of pavement now that used to be brush that absorbed water.
