Unfortunately I haven't been able to post a link hard to do from a tablet. But it was a great interview. JK said his father was his hs coach and he talked about that. But what was most interesting was his explanation as to why/how Art Briles destroyed his career. Also interesting was about why most fb players are ill equipped for college. Personally I agree with him. If someone can find it and post the link please do I think people will like listening to it. Joel Klatt is looking at this with a big picture attitude which is how I try to look at things. He's a fine analyst on college fb. He and Gus Johnson are the best thing when it comes to college fb on Fox/FS1.

You know I'm past 60 years old and I've seen so many of these scandals I'm numb to it now. I had a lot of respect for Art Briles as an offensive mind he was about to take his place as number one in that regard. He destroyed himself, more than anything by looking the other way he assisted in hurting a lot of innocent coeds. I also blame him for not looking into the character of the players he recruited. Shawn Oakman came from the Penn State fire sale. There were so many warnings about this guy. However, during the Briles era, save for Andrew Billings, they've always been mediocre on defense and Baylor was desperate. Why? Because he was a heralded recruit. I saw on a Baylor website that when Oakman was arrested, they interviewed 5 Baylor players and 4 of them thought he did it and that says it all. In fact there was a current player on the Baylor team, Devin Chafin, who had been involved with striking a coed a few years ago. Somehow be stayed on the team. Why? He was a starting rb. Then on spring break he got busted for marijuana in Oklahoma. And yet he still stayed on the team. After the Briles firing he was finally kicked him off the team. Why? Because winning is worth anything.

I've seen other scandals like this Oklahoma, UNLV, Woody Hayes, so many others and in all of them the people at like a lot of Baylor fans are right now. Sadly the alums, students, and fans who supported the firing are not making their voice heard, the press ignores them, they only listen to the emotional ones they make nobody want to listen to other guys.

And at all of those schools the coach will always be revered. A lot of people in Oklahoma will always defend Switzer. Same thing goes with Tarkanian, and Woody Hayes they don't want to hear that they let their schools down.

I didn't mean to digress. I've always wondered why so many fb players get in trouble and the JK interview had an interesting take on that. And every P5 school has at least a few, even an elite school like Stanford has some. And I don't know if it will ever get better, it can only get worse. Changes have to be made.

Ok I've given my little editorial. For those that don't have a tablet please find a way to post that link on this thread.

Moral values and knowing right from wrong start as a child at home.It has been stated that 72% of African American children do not have a mother or father in the home growing up.When you do not have proper guidance from your parents the tree can grow crooked and until this cultural change occurs problems will continue and it is not just about Football players.

He also gave a fresh take on Watson back when UT initially hired him. Seeing as how the guy played QB under him, it was a first hand take. Said the guy is good with QBs. And bad at calling plays.

I used to think Klatt had some really stupid takes, but he seems pretty sensible to me these days.

Maybe I just caught him on some bad days. Or maybe it just took a while for him to get his brains unscrambled after Kelson turned him into a greasy spot on the turf in Houston.

Really? The take I saw from Klatt on Watson at the time made him sound like Norm Chow.

It was on a BigXII conf preseason show that year. I already didn't like the hire and having a former player question it....really cemented it for me. Among other things.

This is a perfect summation of to attitudes of BU alums I commiserated with this weekend. We can't believe Briles, our hero, let us down, and don't want to believe it. But the overwhelming majority have a grudging acceptance of the action taken. We don't like it, we don't like to hear reports of Fatterson eating BBQ in Fort Worth chortling about the downfall of Briles with his donors, we don't like to hear Herbstreit rubbing it in, but we are slowly coming to accept that there was really no other choice. UNLV never rebounded. SMU never rebounded. I have doubts that we will.

Pretty realistic take.

Once a program that wasn't built the right way crashes, it's hard to come back. I'm thinking Miami. They had a lot better run than Baylor, but they still haven't come back to anything close to what they were when they were recruiting the gangsta crowd.

It's going to be tough for Baylor.

You know diadevic as long as the NCAA doesn't declare an open house on the Baylor fb players Baylor just may survive this. I think the NCAA realized that when they did that to Penn State, it was too severe, it caused lawsuits, and they won't do it again. Will there by sanctions, and scholarship limitations? Absolutely. Will there be a no bowls period? Yes, but no more than a year because the NCAA has realized that doesn't do any good.

But there might be some hope. I've been watching Texas fb for a long time and I remember the Grant Teaff era pretty well. Your school has never had as much talent as they have right now, they even recruited well on defense in February. But if they hire from within, especially Phil Bennett they will take an even bigger step back. Without going into detail he's been a sorry coach his whole career.

But because of the talent, new facilities, and recent success they just might attract a top notch asst coach. But they can't hire anyone with any connections to the Briles era. They need to hire a coach with no connections to Briles. There are some similarities between Clemson and Baylor, they could do well if they look to one of their coordinators. They have an spread offense. And if they hire their dc Brent Venables they might hit a home run. Finally your school may not have the kind of money that UT has but they have enough to open up the checkbook if that's what it takes.

I won't go into detail as to why but if they can get BV then like I said above they just might survive and by that I mean competitive.

I wish I knew why so many fb are ill equipped to do well in the classroom. There's various reasons but fire every player who is a legitimate student there's two who are only there because they're fb players. The biggest reason of course I'd that they make money for their school

I can tell you exactly why they are ill equipped for the classroom. They simply aren't good students to begin with, and otherwise wouldn't have been accepted if they didn't play football. It's not that they are bad students because they play ball. It's that schools accept bad students just because they play ball. Even in middle school, when I was a kid, we always had better grades during football season. That's because the school was bumping up our grades to keep everybody on the team. I remember one year when we got our report cards in the fall and my friend had all A's and B's, and his mom said, "We need to let you play football all the time!" She didn't get it. She thought we were just doing better because we were more motivated to study since we were having fun playing ball. The truth is, we probably did even less work during the season. I'm not saying every single ball player is a bad student. I'm just saying the schools simply turn a blind eye when it comes to ball players.
