Here are a few immediate thoughts about, and reactions to, Steve Sarkisian's Michigan-week press conference, coming off a resounding win at home against Colorado State and heading into the young season's first major test in Ann Arbor:

Sark said he thought getting a chance to see some other games, he was really proud of the team playing a clean game, and not having as many mental mistakes. ALEX'S THOUGHTS: I don't have the official count on me as I'm typing this like a mad hatter, but I think there was only one penalty on defense and that was late in the game on Jordon Johnson-Rubell.

Chip Brown asked about Michigan's defense: Talked about his respect for Wink Martindale and how he worked with him back at the Raiders. Said he is not just a reckless blitzer. Elite players on the defensive front and on the back end. The scheme plus those players is the challenge. ALEX'S THOUGHTS: I 100% agree, but the defense is the main concern, for sure, based on what I have seen so far from the Michigan game, although I will be watching that more throughout the week.

Joe Cook asked who is playing Alex Orji on scout team: "I'm not going to tell you how we prepare," lol. Shot down. Sark said we need to be better stopping the run than last week, but can't do it at the expense of giving up big plays in the passing game -- referenced Milroe as an example. ALEX'S THOUGHTS: Orji is athletic but he's no Milroe. Let's not get too crazy here.

Danny Davis asked about Cam Williams: Sark said getting the SEC offensive linemen of the week speaks volumes to his development as the newest starter. ALEX'S THOUGHTS: I'll say. Can't wait to start on the offensive Deep Dig tonight and see what all this buzz is about.

On what needs improving - perimeter blocking offensively. Said Jake Majors had uncharacteristic snap infractions. Talked about Quinn's turnover. It was hard to evaluate special teams with all the fair catches and Texas only had one punt themselves. ALEX'S THOUGHTS: Did he just say that snap infractions were uncharacteristic for MAJORS?!?!

Anwar asked about learning from Bama last year about traveling to an elite opponent early in the season. Sark said half the guys on this trip were there in that game last year. He said they need to play with a sense of confidence and belief in who they are. ALEX'S THOUGHTS: I thought that what the offense showed in the red zone versus CSU more than anything was an air of confidence that was missing last year. It looked like a team that just knew that ball was gonna end up in the paint.

On the new format of the playoff "I like this matchup even more," given the new format (because a loss doesn't knock you out). ALEX'S THOUGHTS: I agree with Sark that it's an excellent opportunity to have a barometer check going into SEC play. A win sure would be nice, though. A loss would really change the margin of error and cushion moving forward even if it is not exclusionary to the playoff on its own.

Thomas Jones asked who stood out on the DL: "Alfred and Vernon played well like they do. Lole showed some things. Alex January was a pleasant surprise." ALEX'S THOUGHTS: Lole was certainly the first guy up after Broughton and Collins. He might be the DL3 if we're basing the projection on usage versus CSU.

Roger Wallace asked about differences in Quinn this year: "I can remember a couple of years ago, his first career pass gets intercepted in DKR and of course he was shook." He talked about on Saturday when he threw his pick, it was like water off his back. ALEX'S THOUGHTS: It might be just me, but I didn't think that play was really that bad in real-time. The defender batted at his hand and next thing you know it's a pick.

Kirk Bohls asked about Sherrone Moore at Michigan: I would say he got great experience a year ago. He won some big games (as the interim when Habaugh was out). ALEX'S THOUGHTS: For as big a game this is for Texas, just imagine how big it is for a first-year head coach who has had to replace so very much of the offense from last season.

Terry from Horns Illustrated asked about AI and if Texas uses it. "I don't want to get turned in for plaigarism," he joked that's what he tells his players. Sark said he uses analytics and computers but uses his gut, too. There's a balance. ALEX'S THOUGHTS: Good question from Terry. Weird, but interesting.

Sark said they were practicing a lot of plays from this game from training camp, and the players didn't necessarily know, but now they do. ALEX'S THOUGHTS: We all knew. Of course you are going to be doing that stuff the same way Texas did for Alabama last year.

Bob Ballou asked about his first time playing at Michigan. Sark said once again that he just loves college football. Seeing guys jump up and hit the "Go Blue" sign, the big house and the helmets. Two iconic uniforms and helmets. He said he's getting goosebumps now just thinking about it. ALEX'S THOUGHTS: Gave me goosebumps, too!

Ced Golden asked about being a 6.5-point favorite. Sark said 3-straight CFP, 23 straight at home, we're in for a dogfight. ALEX'S THOUGHTS: Respect to Ced Golden, but only the most cockamamie idiot would be a football player for Texas who came into this game being overconfident and cocky because of a line at a sportsbook.

On non-conference neutral site games like UGA, etc. played this last weekend: What does the rest of your schedule look like? We had Bama, now Michigan, then we'll have Ohio State. I don't want to go to Columbus, go to Georgia then go play someone in Vegas. ALEX'S THOUGHTS: That right there is a recipe for giving yourself a terrible shot at the CFP, I agree with Sark. Too easy to find a way to slip up at some point as it is.

On if playing early in the day is an advantage: For us, we love 11am kicks our-time. We're a morning operation. 7:15am special teams meeting, on the field by 8am, done by 11:15am. ALEX'S THOUGHTS: That's impressive. It's not a morning operation at the Dunlap home as far as Dad is concerned. I only see the crack of 7:15am a few times a week. I gotta get things together I guess.

New personnel packages defensively: I think it's been a great collaboration (with Nansen and PK) now more than ever with the depth we have and the versatile DBs has allowed us to do more of those things. ALEX'S THOUGHTS: They didn't use 6 DBs THAT much (only 4 times in the game) but it is a cool look. It's true what he's been saying about Barron, though. He did switch between nickel and outside corner throughout the game.

How does he rate the level of excitement this season: "I like the team and I like the fact that we're in Year 4 and we've generated a really good buzz around Longhorn football." ALEX'S THOUGHTS: The buzz continues this week as all the big pregame shows will be traveling to the Big House.

Let's hope Texas fans get to scoreboard-watch on Saturday with that oh-so-good feeling of already having their own big win in the bag.
