Any suggestions? Food, drink, activities, etc. I’m also interested in seeing the best parts of campus and the athletics facilities.

If you’re up for meeting up, let me know ...

Austin on a summer weekend sounds about as much fun as a chainsaw to the neck right now. The heat is brutal right now. Go to the ransom center and look at art and eat ice cream.

Really cool place. Great fit of college campus in a really nice city. Only thing I've seen close is UW in Seattle.

I've heard UW Madison is a similar fit but in much colder climes! One of my friends introduced me to a couple people from Madison who've moved down here to enjoy Austin.

Speaking of the construction, I'm guessing since it won't be completed until next year, there won't be a Jumbotron this year? Also, what is the seating capacity supposed to be when complete, around 110,000?

I'm pretty sure that Godzillatron will be working this year during the construction. The seating capacity will only increase by a small number. What is being added is more revenue producing suites and an overall improvement of the south end zone.

They will be building mostly suites and also building a larger Godzillatron---- roughly 25% larger than the current Godzillatron. Technically the attendance numbers will not go up but the reality is will we will able to hold over 105,000. If you remember correctly, we got 103,500 or so in to watch us play USC.

The Godzillatron ruined the game experience for me. I love the Tex vs OU game as there are little to no advertisements on the field. All band and no crap.

I understand---- but something you have to understand about Texas is that------- well----- we like making a profit. And Godzillatron makes us a sh!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!t ton of money.

I had 3 beers at scholz. Good enough? Cool place. Crazy how long it’s been there

That's good. Usually, Scholz's is packed on game day. Between Sholz's, west campus, and the stadium is where the action happens. Before a game, years ago, I got stuck in a parking garage elevator. It completely stopped with doors closed. I wasn't about to wait for the FD to get there. Myself and a buddy forced the doors open and squeezed out. Messy.... had to get to Scholz's!

There's a book, by Billy Brammer about Austin in the late 50s and early 60s. THE GAY PLACE. Before all the pride bullshit. A lot of it is at Scholz's. When I was a freshman, it became the first place I could drink beer in public. The graffiti was awesome.

If the Austin law saying it's ok for homeless to pitch a tent in public areas is not defeated by Gov. Abbott, I hope it doesn't turn into San Franfeces! And it's funny how they're not allowed at the court house or govt buildings. Bureaucrats taking care of themselves.

What’s the best brisket in austin? I received a few suggestions.

There are food trucks that are the best, but I'm personally fond of County Line On The Lake. Even though the name is confusing, it's not on the lake, it's on Bull Creek, but the outdoor patio setting on a pretty day can't be beat.

I heard Valentina's bbq food truck is pretty good. Not sure of the location.

The Austin Area has some of the finest barbecue in the the Universe. But for me, I like to take the short drive out to Lockhart for some Kritzer's or Blacks BBQ. However if you must stay in the Austin Area and likely won't make it in time for Franklin's. Try Blacks, or Terry Black's, or Cooper's, or Iron Works. All very good and you won't be disappointed. I have friends I trust that tell me La Barbecue was fantastic, but I can't vouch for that one.

Honestly, you are a tourist and anyone that knows BBQ knows that you have to experience Franklin's just once so you can say you went there. Oh and get a shirt that says you went there.

graffitti?....back in the day the best of the best was at Van's on 19th ( back when there was a 19th) and Guadalupe....you could be standing at the urinal doing what you do at a urinal and 5 guys with their wives would walk in and "tour" the place reading it all....

You guys have to remember, this guy is from Georgia. They don't have BBQ there, so anything in Austin will be amazing to him. Lol

Archdawg, wherever you go, make sure you get brisket. Save that pork crap for when you're back home. Lol
