Here is a small collection of notes from various sources to OB staff regarding Thursday's football practice, which was closed to the media:

- It was reportedly a shorts and shoulder pads practice following two-straight practices of full-pads on Sunday and Tuesday, and presumably preceding what will be a scrimmage-like atmosphere on Saturday. For this reason, it was reportedly not as physical a practice.

- About the quarterbacks, it was "more of the same" regarding rotations. Both Hudson Card and Quinn Ewers get to work with the first team, but Card was the first player up when the team went to team drills.

- We're told that the two-TE set with first team on Thursday was Gunnar Helm and Ja'Tavion Sanders. Jahleel Billlingsley is still working behind those two at this time.

- On the offensive line, Christian Jones was reportedly practicing at right tackle. This makes basically four out of five practices that Jones has been at RT, and it is looking more and more like this will be the position he starts 2022 playing. The bigger question here is, can Andrej Karic hold off all of the freshman newcomers come summertime to hold on to a starting left tackle job?

- Also of note on the offensive line, Kyle Flood was reportedly "trying some things" on Thursday that involved true freshman early enrollee Cole Hutson getting some reps with the first-team at right guard. It is unclear whether this was as a direct replacement for Hayden Conner, or whether it was part of a general mixing and matching along the OL. Regardless, something to file away is that Hutson -- who had a simply outrageous high school highlight reel -- seems to be at least making his presence felt in some sort of way if he's getting any work at all with the ones this early. It sort of reminds you of the little bit of work Conner himself would get with the first group during the fall camp preceding the 2021 season.

- Maalik Murphy has his boot off and is not ready to practice in full yet, but according to one person, he's still getting some decent work in during some training periods and "mental reps". Murphy can reportedly work with the guys in some individual drills where they practice footwork in their dropbacks and simulating ball exchanges for handoffs, etc. He is still not planting on the foot and throwing off it, or, presumably, taking part in strenuous stuff, but we're told he's out there learning in a more involved capacity, at least, than he was while stuck in the boot.

- While it's not a sexy name that people are really excited to hear about, we keep hearing that WR Marcus Washington is having a really nice spring camp so far. Washington and Xavier Worthy are seen as leaders of sorts among the WRs and offense in general.

- On defense, Moro Ojomo is a little banged up and maybe that's why we haven't been hearing too much about him during camp thus far. From everything we're told, he's "going to be fine" and will be back relatively quickly. No worries on that end for the remainder of spring ball from everything we've heard.

- Someone said that Justice Finkley was starting to get some work with the twos behind Ovie Oghuofo off the edge.

- The starting two safeties in team drills today were apparently still Anthony Cook and Kitan Crawford. We're only 5 practices into spring ball, but Crawford is beginning to sort of have a pattern going here of running with the starters. Obviously, this is an evaluation period and things change all the time, but the position switch from corner to safety is sounding like one that is suiting Crawford at least relatively well so far. If those two were to stay the starters, it would make for two players on the Texas defense who started their careers at outside corner who now start at safety.
