In complete and utter boredom came across the last email exchange that I had with Jerry. and deondre Davis was a complete mullet.
Jerry, can you route this through my personal email instead? Twheeler1962@biteme.com. Also, the linebacker deondre Davis is an absolute train wreck. Attitude and moral issues.

Red Raiders in 31-22 Thriller in Lubbock
QB David Ash threw for 264 yards and three touchdowns, RB Johnathan Gray
added 106 yards rushing and WR Mike Davis had four catches for two touchdowns
and 165 yards to power No. 22 Texas to a 31-22 victory over No. 20 Texas
Tech in Lubbock Saturday.
The victory gave Texas a 7-2 season record and a 4-2 Big 12 record.
Texas Tech fell to 6-3 overall and and 3-3 in the Big 12.
The Longhorns scored the first three times they had the ball and they never
trailed in the game. It was tied at 7-7, but it was never tied again.
Texas got off to a fast start, forcing the Red Raiders to punt on their
first possession and then scoring three straight times.
Ash played well, and the defense played its best game of the season. The
linebackers got lots of tackles for the first time and showed signs that they
are figuring things out.
Gray's first carry was a 26-yard run to the Texas Tech 45. Then he caught a
pass for 34 yards to set up the first touchdown, which came on an Ash pass
to Jaxon Shipley for six yards. Anthony Fera converted and Texas hd a quick
7-0 lead
Texas Tech tied it on the Raiders next drive, but Ash hit Mike Davis for
54 yards to the Tech 2, and Joe Bergeron scored on the next plays for a 14-7
lead.
The Raiders kicked a field goal on their next possession, but Texas came
back with a 75-yard Ash pass to Davis for a touchdown and a 21-10 lead.
Both teams added field goals and the half-time score was 24-13.
Texas Tech outgained Texas, 441 yards to 427 yards, but the big difference
was that Texas and Texas Tech each scored five times, but Texas had four
touchdowns and a field goal and the Raiders had two touchdowns and three field
goals.
Seven points beats three points, not matter how you slice it.
The Red Raiders got a field goal and a touchdown in the third quarter, but
the extra point was blocked after the touchdown, leaving Texas ahead, 24-22.
Ash connected with Davis again in the fourth quarter for a 25-yard TD pass
to bring the score to 31-22, and that's the way it ended.
The game, in brief:
FIRST QUARTER
Texas scored three touchdowns on its first three drives, going 71 yards in
nine plays to take a 7-0 lead, and then going 75 yards in five plays to take
the lead for keeps at 14-7.
SECOND QUARTER
Ash hit Davis with a 75-yard scoring pass in the second quarter to extend
the lead to 21-10. The Red Raiders got two field goals andthe Longhorns got
one for a 24-13 lead at intermission.
THIRD QUARTER
Texas Tech had a 76-yard drive, but had to settle for a field goal when the
Longhorn defense stiffened inside the 20. The Raiders scored a touchdown,
but a pass for the two-point conversion failed and Texas had a 24-22 lead
entering the final quarter.
FOURTH QUARTER
Texas got its fourth touchdown in the fourth quarter and the defense
blanked Texas Tech so the final score was 31-22.
Defense Steps Up
The Texas defense had its best showing against a good team Saturday,
limiting Texas Tech to 22 points and 441 yards on offense.
The Red Raiders had been averaging 506 yards and 40.5 points a game, so
Texas held them well under their average in both categories.
The Big 12 has offensive teams for the most part, so the defensive showing
was a good one.
Game Notes . .
* There was a Jones AT&T Stadium-record crowd of 60,879 in attendance
Saturday.
* Texas is 4-0 on the road this season and has won 38 of its last 45 true
Big 12 road games (excluding neutral-site games).
*Texas improved to 2-2 in games vs. top 25 teams this season. The Horns
defeated Oklahoma State (No. 22 in USA Today Coaches poll) and lost to West
Virginia and Oklahoma, a pair of top 10 teams.
* Texas Tech scored five of six times in the red zone, but Texas held them
to four field-goal attempts. The Red Raiders hit three of those FG attempts
and one was blocked,
* After gaining only 32 yards (on 14 plays)in their first three drives of
the second half, the Longhorn offense responded by going 59 yards on eight
plays, including a 25-yard TD pass from Davis Ash to Mike Davis, to increase
the lead to 31-22.
* Carrington Byndom blocked Texas Tech's fourth-quarter field-goal attempt
which would have brought the Red Raiders within one score. It was Byndom's
second block of the season (punt block vs. WVU). Texas has blocked seven
kicks this season (three punts; two extra points; two field goals). The Horns
entered the game tied for first in the FBS in blocked kicks with Ohio State
and Rutgers (six).
* Mack Brown is now 234-115-1 all-time as a head coach. He moved into a tie
for 11th with Bo Schembechler on the NCAA FBS career wins list.
* QB David Ash made his 15th-career start. He has a 10-5 record as a
starter with wins in eight of his last 10.
* Ash went over 3,000 passing yards (3,069) by completing 11 of 19 passes
for 264 yards and three TDs. He threw three TD passes for the third time this
season.
* RB Joe Bergeron scored his 16th rushing touchdown of the season in the
first quarter. He remains in seventh on the school's single-season rushing TD
list and needs two more to tie Jamaal Charles (2007) and Earl Campbell
(1977) for fifth place. Ricky Williams had a school-record 27 in 1998.
* Under Mack Brown, the Longhorns are 113-7 when they get at least 400
yards on offense.
Hicks Likely Redshirt
Linebacker Jordan Hicks is a likely redshirt for the Longhorns.
The junior from Ohio has been out since the third game and there are no
signs that he will be able to return this season.
He is eligible for a medical redshirt, but teams can't apply for medical
redshirts until the season ends.
He would be eligible because he has not played since the third game and
players who don't play in the fourth game or any subsequent game are eligible
for medical redshirt years.
Horns Lead Series with Tech
Texas and Texas Tech met for the 62nd time in series history Saturday and
the Longhorns victory gave them a 47-15 lead in the all-time series that
started in 1928.
UT has won 12 of the last 14 matchups against Texas Tech.
TheLonghorns are 17-10 against the Red Raiders in Lubbock, 29-5 in Austin,
and 39-14 against them in all-time conference matchups (13-4 Big 12/26-10
SWC).
Mack Brown is 12-3 against Tech, with all three losses coming in Lubbock
(1998, 2002, 2008).
TRUE ORANGE - A GREAT GIFT
True Orange is a great gift for any Longhorn for any and all occasions, and
it's the gift that keeps on giving all year.
Texas Coaches Want Linemen
The Longhorns haven't had a commitment since early in October, so they
still have have 15 senior commitments and five junior pledges.
OLs Caleb Benenoch of Katy Seven Lakes and Andrew Billings of Waco are two
guys Texas is recruiting, but they don't appear to be in any hurry to make a
decision.
WR Speedy Noll and DE Gerald Willis III are two top recruits in New Orleans
the Longhorn coaches have offered, but it will be tough to get them away f
rom LSU and the other SEC schools.
The Longhorns probably won't sign more than 20 recruits in February because
they have a small senior class and can't sign 25 without having some
problems.
CB Cole Luke of Arizona, who had been recruited hard by Texas, has
committed to Notre Dame.
Texas is looking out of state and in junior colleges in other states for
stud defensive linemen, and they think they need one or two tackles
and a defensive end or two defensive ends.
Depending on what they do with Jack Raulerson of Celina and A'Shawn
Robinson of Fort Worth Arlington Heights, Texas has two WRs, Jake Oliver of Dallas
Jesuit and Jacorey Warrick of Cypress Woods, two offensive linemen, Kent
Perkins of Lake Highlands and Darius James of Killeen Harker Heights, two TEs,
Durham Smythe of Belton and Geoff Swaim of Butte CC in California, one QB,
Tyrone Swoopes of Whitewright, one RB, Kyle Hicks of Arlkington Martin, and
the other five guys are defensive players.
The defensive guys include two LBs, Deoundrei Davis of Cypress Woods and
Naashon Highes of Harker Heights and three DBs, Antwuan Davis of Bastrop,
Chevoskie Collins of Livingston and Eric Huhn of Cibolo Steele.
They need some DLs and they might have to go outside Texas' borders to get
them.
Raulerson and Robinson can play in the offensive line or the defensive
line, so the coaches can beef up one of the lines if they put both of them on
offense or defense.
Robinson is still looking at other schools, but said he is a solid Texas
pledge.
If he was really solid, he wouldn't be taking visits and calls from rival
coaches.
WR Robbie Rhodes of Fort Worth Southwest, is committed to Baylor, but he is
still accepting calls from Texas coaches.
He teamed up with his QB for a 75-yard touchdown pass Saturday, and he also
ran 45 yards for anolther score.
Daniel Gresham, the fullback who committed to Texas from Ft Worth All
Saints Episcopal,is a very good blocker, runner and receiver.
He moved to Texas from Kentucky when he was 12 years old and said he really
likes the Texas coaches.
But he also likes the coaches at Kentucky and TCU. That could be a problem
when it comes time to sign a letter of intent, but he says he is solid with
Texas.
QB Jerrod Heard of Denton Guyer is one of rthe Longhorns' junior pledges.
He accounted for 3,000 yards as a sophomore - 2,300 passing and 700 running.
He is a true dual-threat QB, and he said he committed to Texas because he
likes their offense "and they win a lot of games."
The Players Talk
"We finally stopped the run," said DE Alex Okafor. "It's going to help us
in the remaining games because we finally did what we wanted to do against a
pretty good offense."
"We needed this one really bad," said CB Carrington Byndom. "The defense
and the team came together today."
Byndom made some big plays in the game, including blocking a field goal try.
The defensive players also said it helped that they weren't jumping around
when the ball was snapped. That happened a lot against Kansas and
contributed to some big gainers for the Jayhawks."
The base defense gave the players time to get set so they could handle the
players who were trying to block them.
Longhorns Run the Ball
Texas had a fairly balanced offense in beating Texas Tech Saturday in
Lubbock.
The Horns had 427 yards offensively, and that included 163 running and 264
passing.
Texas Tech was ranked in the top 15 in total offense and total defense, so
this was the first timethis year the Longhorns have been able to run a lot
on a good defense.
True Orange Observations
The Longhorn defense played a little bit better in the victory in Lubbock,
and the offense scored enough to win when the defense shows up.
Those young linebackers also made some plays.
Texas Tech was in the top 15 nationally in total offense and total defense,
so scoring four touchdowns and a field goal against them was a pretty good
offensive performance, too.
I think freshman Malcom Brown is the Longhorns' best defensive tackle and I
hope he plays a lot against Iowa State.
The best thing about the defense is that the guys who are starting now,
with the exceptions of DE Alex Okafor and DB Kenny Vaccaro, will be back next
year.
I think the defense is much better when it doesn't do all that moving
around as the ball is being snapped.
And it didn't do that in Lubbock, which might be a big reason it played
better.
When you are moving and the ball is snapped, it is much easier to block you
than if you are set in a stance.
I think the Longhorns will have a better line next year, better linebacking
and probably better players in the secondary.
All that experience they got this year was mostly bad, but it was
experience, and it will stand the returnees well in 2013.
The Big 12 Conference also graduates most of the quarterbacks who made life
m,iserable at times for the other teams in the league, and that will help
the Longhorns because they will be playing against some really young QBs next
season.
Longhorns Back in Polls
Texas is back in the polls, checking in at No. 19 in the AP poll and No. 17
in the USA Today Coaches' Poll.
Other Big 12 teams are ranked higher, including Kansas State at No. 3 in
the AP, and Oklahoma at No. 14 and Texas Tech at No. 25.
In the USA Today Poll, Kansas State also was No. 3 in that poll, and
Oklahoma was No. 13.
To stay in the polls, the Longhorns need to keep winning, at least in the
immediate future.
They probably don't have to beat Kansas State in the final regular season
game, but that would be a nice way to end the season.
But they do need to beat Iowa State this week and TCU on Thanksgiving, or
they probably won't be listed in the polls. Being listed in the polls helps
with bowl prospects.
Horns, Frogs Play Youngsters
Texas and TCU are tied for thehighest number of true freshman who have
played this year in the country.
They have each played 16 true freshmen.
Big 12 Statistics
Here is how the 10 teams in the Big 12 Conference rank so far this season
in total offense and in total defense:
Total Offense Total Defense
Texas 441.1 (40) 446.6 (98)
Baylor 581.5 (1) 527.3 (120)
ISU 360.6 (92) 423.7 (83)
Kansas 355.4 (98) 446.2 (97)
KSU 439 (41) 358.6 (36)
OU 488.8 (14) 312.9 (17)
OSU 575.9 (2) 377.5 (47)
TCU 429.5 (48) 313.1 (18)
TT 500 (12) 314.1 (12)
WVU 430.4 (19) 482.5 (111)
Talk about contrast, Baylor is No. 1 in total offense and dead last at No.
120 in total defense.
Oklahoma has one of the best offenses and one of the beat defenses, but
still lost to Kansas State in Norman, and that's why the Wildcasts lead the
league.
Scouting Iowa State
Texas will host Iowa State at 11 a.m. Saturday and the game will be
televised by the Longhorn Network.
Texas is 7-2 overall and 4-2 in the Big 12.
The Cyclones are 5-4 overall and 2-4 in the Big 12 Conference.
Iowa State beat Tulsa, 38-23, Iowa, 9-6 and Western Illinois, 37-3, to
start the season.
Then they lost to Texas Tech, 24-13, beat TCU, 37-23, and lost to Kansas
State, 27-21, and Oklahoma State, 31-10, whipped Baylor, 35-21, and lost to
Oklahoma, 35-20.
The Cyclones are an up-and-down team that plays fair offense and fair
defense most of the time.
The Longhorns are a 10-point favorite over Iowa State.
For Texas to win, the offense and defense need to show up, just like they
did at Texas Tech when they combined to play their best game of the season.
The Longhorns lead the all-time series, 8-1, and they will be favored,
probably by 5 to 7 points.
But the Cyclones are a dangerous team that plays its best against good
teams, and they gave undefeated Kansas State a real battle before losing.
Texas has better offensive statistics than Iowa State, but the Cyclones
have an edge in most of the defensive categories.
Iowa State has given up a lot of passing yards, so the Longhorns will try
to have a reasonably balanced offense against them.
QB David Ash played a great game against Texas Tech and so did RB Johnathan
Gray and WR Mike Davis.
The Longhorns had no turnovers in that game in Lubbock and they should win
if they have no turnovers Saturday and play with some of the same fire they
showed in Lubbock last week.
QB Steele Jantz is the main weapon for the Cyclones. He has completed 145
of 228 passes for 1,410 yards and 12 touchdowns. He has had nine passes
intercepted.
He also has run 79 times for 285 yards, but he has been sacked for losses
totaling 115 yards, so he has produced 170 net yards and one touchdown.
Here is how the two teams rank statistically (national ranking in
parenthesis):

Texas Tech QB Seth Doege had thrown 30 touchdown passes before the Red
Raiders played Texas Saturday, but he threw only one scoring pass against the
Longhorn defense. It was only the third time this year he hasn't thrown
multiple TD passes in a game..

Raider Red Zone Production Fatal
Texas Tech got into the red zone (inside the Texas 20) six times and got
only two touchdowns and three field goals.
One other field goal attempt was blocked by Texas CB Carrington Byndom.
Both teams scored five times.
But Texas had four touchdowns and conversion kicks and one field goal. That
adds up to 31 points.
Texas Tech had two touchdowns and those three field goals. That adds up to
22 points when you subtract the conversion kick that was blocked.
And that was the final score and gave Texas its seventh victory of the
season and gave Texas Tech its third loss.
It also seemed to be a coming out party for the Texas defense, which played
its best game of the year against a good offense.
Big 12 Roundup
Kansas State whipped Oklahoma State Saturday and seems to have a pretty
clear path to the Big 12 Championship if the knee injury to QB Collin Klein is
not too bad.
Oklahoma is a game behind, but the Sooners lost to Kansas State, so it is
going to be difficult for the Sooners to win the title.
Texas upset Texas Tech and TCU beat West Virginia in a pair of overtimes.
The best game this week has Kansas State going to Fort Worth to play TCU.

Tuberville Moans Mistakes
Texas Tech head football coach Tommy Tuberville said Saturday the Red
Raiders lost because they kept making mistakes.
"We just shot ourselves in the foot and made way too many mistakes against
a good football team," he said.
Women's Golf Sixth
Sparked by a 2-over-par team score on the back nine at The University of
Texas Golf Club, the Longhorn women closed first-round action at the Betsy
Rawls Longhorn Invitational at 9-over 297 to finish the day in sixth place.
Sophomore Bertine Strauss was one of 10 players to fire a below par round
and is tied for fifth place at 1-under 71.
Making her debut in Texas' home tournament, Strauss teed off in chilly
conditions and quickly heated up her scorecard when she sank a 25-foot birdie
putt on the first hole.
Two holes later, Strauss encountered her first of two bogeys. After
eight-straight pars, her second bogey came at 12. A pair of birdies on 15 and 17 -
both par 4s - put Strauss in the clubhouse at 71.
Senior Katelyn Sepmoree finished three strokes behind Strauss and is tied
for 27th at +2.
Sepmoree matched Strauss' team-high three birdies with subpars on five,
seven and 14, but was set back by three bogeys (eight, 11, 13) and a double
bogey at 16.
Seniors Haley Stephens, Madison Pressel and Desiree Dubreuil carded rounds
of 76 and are tied for 39th place.
Freshman Natalie Karcher led Texas' four individuals with an even-par 72 to
tie for 11th place.
Freshmen Tezira Abe (75) and Taylor Kim (76) are tied for 34th and 39th
places, respectively, and junior Alyssa Morgan (84) finished the day tied for
77th.
Texas head coach Martha Richards said, "We got off to a slow start. I'm not
sure if we were nervous or cold or what it was, but other than Haley's
tough first hole and Desiree's tough No. 6, we played the front pretty well."
Defending national champion Alabama leads the 15-team field at 4-under 288.
Arkansas (288) and Arizona State (290) round out the top three teams.
Tulsa's Shu-Yin Liu holds the individual lead at 4-under 68. Three players
are tied for second place with scores of 69.
Chen Makes Finals
On Sunday, the last day of the UT Invitational, senior Ben Chen finished as
the runner-up in the Singles B Draw against Orlando Superlano of TCU at
Penick-Allison Tennis Center,
Superlano defeated Chen in three sets - 6-4, 1-6, 6-3. Down 1-4 in the
first set, Chen rallied for a 3-1 run and used his momentum to win the second
set, 6-1.
"I thought Ben played a great match and competed very well," head coach Mi
chael Center said. "There were a couple mistakes here and there in the
match, but I was really pleased with his competitiveness. It was a really good
final."
Next up, senior Daniel Whitehead will travel to New York for the USTA/ITA
National Indoor Championships beginning Thursday. The UT Invitational was the
last team event of the fall season.
Aston Says Reed Looks Good
New women's basketball coach Karen Aston says 6-4 senior center Cokie Reed
has been looking "really good" in practice.
Reed, who was battling injuries last year, averaged 6.2 points and 4.5
rebounds per game last season.
Aston also said Chassidy Fussell, the junior guard who led Texas in scoring
last year, also has been looking very good.
Fussell averaged 16.3 points per game last year.
It is too early to name a starting group, but Reed, and Nneka Enemkpali
probably will be the inside players and the point guard will be either Celina
Rodrigo or Ashley Roberts and the shooting guard will be Fussell.
Freshman Empress Davenport also has been looking very good in practice and
probably will start, too. She is 5-7.
The team played an exhibition last week against Incarmate Word and won
77-33.
Freshman Imani McGee-Stafford, a 6-7 center, had 12 rebounds and junior
transfer Gigi Mazionyte had 12 points.
RECRUITING NOTES: Aston is recruiting a 5-3 guard and a 6-3 forward or
post. They are guard Brooke McCarty of Houston Clear Springs and 6-4 forward
Brianna Turner of Pearland Manvel.
McCarty is very good at handling the ball, passing it to the big girls
inside or pulling up and hitting a jumper.
Turner is a long-armed girl who can score inside and out and is an
outstanding rebounder and shot blocker.McCarty is trying to decide between Texas and
LSU and Turner is considering several schools.
UT Waiting Word on Kabongo
While the Longorns are waiting to get word on point guard Myck Kabongo's
eligibility, head coach Rick Barnes has been getting freshman point guard
Javon Felix ready to play.
Kabongo, a sophomore, is under investigation by the NCAA, which is trying
top find out if a pro agent paid for his trip to Cleveland last spring.
Barnes said the 5-10 Felix excelled during a closed scrimmamge against
Davidson Saturday.
"He was the one offensive guy who got a lot done," Barnes said. "Jevan is a
very crafty player and he is strong."
The Longhorns open the season Friday at home against Fresno State, which
has former UT assistant Rodney Terry as its head coach.
Texas was guard oriented last season, but they will try to force the ball
inside more this year.
Sheldon McClellan said, "I think Lex (Alexis Wangmene) and Chap (Clint
Chapman) could only score in certain positions and certain offenses. Prince
(Ibeh) and Cam (Ridley), they can score any way. They have better moves and are
just a bigger presence."
Horns Beat Stanford Swimmers
The No. 7 Texas women (3-1) trimmed and overcame a 25-point deficit late
in the meet to secure a 151.5-148.5 victory over host No. 5 Stanford (2-1)
Saturday afternoon at Stanford.
"I think everybody played their part today," UT head coach Carol Capitani
said. "There were people in each event who found a way to make something
happen. We had people like Kaitlin Pawlowicz, Gretchen Jaques and Laura Sogar
come out and get wins, just like our divers did. You don't want to take
credit from them, but we also had people like Marylyn Toledo, Spindrift Beck
and Alex Hooper come out and have some of the best dual meets they've ever
had. The divers did a heck of a job. It was just a great team effort all
the way around."
UT's Pawlowicz claimed a win in the 1000 freestyle in 9:50.98. Sogar
posted the next victory for Texas in the 100 breaststroke, where she led a
one-two UT finish in 1:01.15. Jaques took second in 1:01.53.
Pawlowicz returned to post a win in the 200 butterfly in 2:01.00 before
senior diver Diana Wilcox captured the three-meter event with 308.40 points.
Wilcox's victory helped cut the Stanford lead to 76.5-73.5.
Sogar kicked off the rally by taking first in the 200 breaststroke in
2:10.85. Beck added an additional two points for Texas by placing fourth in
2:15.15 to cut the Stanford lead to 114.5-92.5. Pawlowicz notched her third win
of the day by clocking 4:51.44 in the 500 freestyle.
Jaques led a one-two Longhorns finish in the 100 butterfly in 54.08, well
under the NCAA "B" cut of 54.62. Senior Kelsey Amundsen added four points
by taking second in 55.48, and junior Marylyn Toledo notched two more points
by taking fourth in 56.21.
Texas trimmed the Cardinal lead to five points by taking first and third in
the one-meter diving event. Junior Maren Taylor earned nine points for
Texas by taking first with 302.78 point, and freshman Meghan Houston added
three more points by placing third with 280.5 points.
Stanford' won the 200 individual medley in 2:00.47, but Texas only lost one
point to Stanford since it took second, third and fourth places in the
event. Sogar took second in 2:01.97, while sophomore Skylar Smith placed third
in 2:02.33. Beck placed fourth in 2:02.56.
With Texas trailing 144.5 to 138.5 heading into the meet-ending 400
freestyle relay, the Longhorns won the relay and their B team took third.
Jaques, senior Bethany Adams, junior Sarah Denninghoff and Amundsen
finished in 3:19.07.
But, the points that ultimately won the meet came from UT's "B" relay, as
juniors Samantha Tucker and Alex Hooper and sophomores Shelby Webber and
Kelsey LeNeave won the decisive two points for Texas by placing third in
3:25.49.

True Orange makes a great gift for any Longhorn for any occasion, and it is a gift that keeps on giving all year.

Game Notes . .
* There was a Jones AT&T Stadium-record crowd of 60,879 in attendance
* Carrington Byndom blocked Texas Tech's fourth-quarter field-goal attempt
which would have brought the Red Raiders within one score.

But, the points that ultimately won the meet came from UT's "B" relay, as
juniors Samantha Tucker and Alex Hooper and sophomores Shelby Webber and
Kelsey LeNeave won the decisive two points for Texas by placing third in
3:25.49.
