Jimbo out?

Who are top candidates? Top schools are about to have meetings to pony up some cash for their coach, lest he be poached:
Dan Lanning UO
Kalen Deboer UW
Mike Elko Duke
Kentucky Stoops
Lance Leipold
Mike Norvell
I doubt Norvell leaves FSU
For what it’s worth Leipold said last week amid reports that he interviewed with Michigan state that KU will be the last job he has.

To me the only reason Lanning or Deboer leave is if they don’t think the programs can compete in the big 10 long term.

I've heard about Deborah and Lanning. I've also heard about Glenn Schuman the DC at Georgia who appears to have some upside.

Another name I've heard it's Jeff Traylor. That's a really interesting possibility. He's well known in Texas high schools. He's done well at UTSA btw they're 7/3. He'd take the job in a minute. Although he's a relative unknown that can be a positive. It means he wouldn't get a big contract right away at least not until they've paid off Jimbo.

I don't know why Deboer or Lanning would leave those guys are on a championship run.

That Schuman guy is a young fella only 33. But he's already been on a few nc teams and he's spent his entire coaching career in the SEC. And like Traylor he wouldn't command a big contract right away.

I don't know @KChorn11. After Michigan and Ohio State the Big X is big joke. Washington and especially Oregon could win right away. The Big X west might as well be the worst conference in the country. And before you say Penn State they can't win the big one.

I agree. I don’t see Lanning leaving Oregon unless it’s for a true elite job. He’s actually from the area I live we went to the same college. Know people that played ball with him.

I'm from San Antonio and did my PhD at UTSA. I was a big fan of Traylor while he was on the Texas staff and a huge fan of what he has done at UTSA. The fact that he got out of Arkansas with his reputation in tact is probably the most amazing thing he did. However he has a QB who has been on campus for 7 years and 4 years in his system. That is more than most NFL QBs out there. I would be hesitant to pull the trigger until I see him with an 18-20 year old QB.

You guys are totally missing the obvious candidate: Brent Vegetables!
Better resources, better player access, bigger both coach and player payrolls, better school.
So if he’s smart, and according to someone on this board he is, he should jump at this opportunity.

The simple fact that he was fired now tells me this--

This isn't about wins and losses. This is about FEAR. They are afraid that next year Jimbo makes them look bad in front of Texas, and they have to listen to the 100 million dollar cat calls from Texas fans. Their pure fear of Texas has made them spend 77 million dollars to NOT lose face.

Think about that for a second. They are SO afraid of losing to Texas with a 100 million dollar coach, that they are willing to pay him 77 million to NOT coach.

Never in the history of ANY sort of athletics, has this happened. Never. Not once.

So the next time you hear anybody from college Station give you any lip, just remind then that deep down, in those quiet places that nobody talks about, the mere thought of being embarrassed by Texas got an entire university and its alumni association, to shell out the GDP of a small nation, to pay off a coach.

100% agree Clob if Texas was 7-5 Jimbo is probably back. Texas is 9-1 though, and gaining a ton of momentum. You look at the schedule next year and they could win 10 games in their first SEC year. A&M had to respond.

Dan Campbell is a pipe dream. No way he leaves a kush NFL job to coach Aggie. He’s done a hell of a job in Detroit.
Yeah that’s crazy. I mean he will make more money than he will in the NFL, but yeah not happening

I wonder if Sonny Dykes would be a target.
Nope. This is what cracks me up.

You just bounced a coach and are going to have to scratch him a big check----- and they don't have a replacement on deck already. This is how you know it was a desperation move.

I really thought that the aggies would do well this year. Especially with Durkin as the DC and Petrino at the OC and with great player talent level. I didn't think they would be 6-4 at this point of the season. I am noticing their defense was not bad-only Miami scored 48, Ole Miss 38, but everybody else 26 or less. The question is whether Fisher allowed Petrino to properly run the offense. One game is not enough of a sample size, but we may have the answer to the question if aggy lights up LSU on the last game of the season.

There's nothing to lose now. Jimbo is gone. The staff is gone. They're bowl eligible. They'll let it all hang out against LSU.

This is how you know money isn't real anymore to any Government run entity. They basically lit 75 million bucks on fire.

I bet Jimbo's agent doesn't think it was lit on fire.......

They are claiming the initial buyout of 19 million will come from boosters but the rest will be paid by the athletic department. I guess they will have to raise the ticket prices and beer to cover it but what they will really do is move funds from one account to another to make the books look legit. Don't forget that they still have to pay the new staff. Every Aggie that talks about being fiscally conservative can now take a seat in the back row because they lost all credibility.

With all the transfers last year I'm starting to wonder if the players didn't like him. More will be revealed the next few days.

Norvell??
I’ll take a shot-

1) Taylor - Texas HS legacy, UT, turned UTSA into a fun team to watch, understands the recruiting game, will immediately have an impact to keep as many of their existing recruits on board.
2) Aranda - something tells me he would play well into the ATM cult.
3) Whittingham - makes the jump to big time SEC football. Will bring a new level of coaching professionalism to ATM. Urban - “he’s the best coach out there right now”.

All are interchangeable.

Dan Campbell
Jeff Traylor
Gus Malzahn
Ooh yeah, I didn’t think about Malzahn. That could actually be at the top of the list. Wasn’t he the one though that said a few years ago UT was his dream job?

If I’m the next coach selected by Aggy, I’m going to demand a similar contract structure to the one they gave Jimbo. They pretty much set the standard for all future Aggy HC contracts. Hard to go back now.

That’s the only way they have a shot at landing a Dan Lanning, or someone like that.

Whoa there, @Drtxhorn First the head coach has to earn it by having a couple of 8 or 9 win seasons and get second in the SEC west division.
