Just an observation which surprised me...but it is good...I think.

I was looking at Dave Campbell's Texas Football, in which he listed all 24 of the 2019 recruits, and I noticed several from out of state, but I was shocked when I counted them and there were 12 in total. 50% from out of state? I can't ever remember that many out of state recruits, so I did a really bad thing! I started thinking about it, and I stumbled into the conclusion, "that it is not necessarily a bad thing, especially if we got everyone in Texas that we were aiming for --- so my question, ahhh questions: Did we, and is 50% from out of state unheard of?

Quality of in state players was low last year, hence Herman went OOS. This year, just the opposite and already for next year.
Follow where the talent is.

Herman and the staff have said that they will always recruit in-state players first at the position that they're looking to fill. If they don't find the right player that they want in-state, then they will go out of state to get that player.

I don't know if the talent was any better or worse last year, but lets be honest. The aggys did a great job of getting the jump on Texas for many and as Herman said, he found better players than what was left.

It's a credit to the staff that we still did a great job even if we got beat out for the in-state talent. The biggest OOS scores were at DB and WR where we got some great OOS kids because the top choice guys in-state went to other schools.

I will also add that this year they have done a masterful job of getting a great mix of in-state and OOS guys. Dline is a prime example. They are about to go 4 for 4, but they found Van Fillinger who looks like he is a freak of nature as a 3'star. Then they have cultivated s heck of a pipeline with Arizona recruits.

Jumbo Baggins got a bump in recruiting due to the first year excitement at aggy. It has returned to the historical average and we are picking up who we want in state.

We definitely took some loses last year with in state targets. Jimbo and TAMU did well in state and some OOS blue bloods swept in a picked up a few guys as well. I think the 1st year bump had worn off for Herman, we didn't have a great season the year before, Jimbo was the new shiny coach in state, and Bama/Ohio St/Georgia have done well in Texas.

Herman and Co did a great job of pivoting and identifying some top notch OOS talent and some late blooming in state guys. It certainly wasn't plan A, or even B at time, but we still had a top 5 class with Plan C. It was a pretty impressive response by our staff I thought.

This year is already much different, we are landing a majority of our top in state guys and supplementing with OOS studs. 2021 will probably be more of the same if not even more so a stronger in state class.
