We're in big f'ing trouble if thats the case.
You guys just dont get how good our WRs were the past couple of years. Not sure we have anyone that can get open right now. Which was highlighted on TV clips in several of our games last year ( Speaking of our two most experienced returning receivers)
This will be compounded by the lack of a speed back in the receiving game for the first time since Sark got here. Keilan and Jayden were match up nightmares. We don't have that either this year.
I hope we pound the portal this spring.

The bar isn't for them to surprise. Thew bar is to play immediately like 1st and 2nd day NFL players.

I think the tell is going to be how hard the coaches go in the portal. (Or do they like the hand they're holding)
A potential long-term problem I see with the portal is if you go there hard every year, high school studs may pull back a little knowing that they are not going to get on the field as quickly as with other teams because they know Texas is going to bring in seniors to potentially set them back.
Every year we see freshman receivers kill it. We don't see the freshman killing it at Texas. (yet)

True Dat. I found Mercury Exteriors on this website. They put a new roof on my house that I couldn't be happier with. It is a community.
They may surprise the doubters, but they aren't going to automatically get faster than what they've been in the past, and we need that home run threat. Last year (and the year before) we had two legit sub 4.3 guys on the field at the same time. Blue at RB and Worthy/Golden at receiver. Right now I'm not sure we have anyone at either of those positions that's even remotely that fast. We lost a lot of top-end speed, and for us to be successful, we need it. Especially given how good Arch is on the deep ball.
Interesting. I'm getting a lot of pushback on my opinion of the receiver room. I can't wait to see how it unfolds.

No, we don’t see freshmen WR’s kill it every year, last year was an anomaly that Ryan Williams and Jeremiah Smith were that good as freshmen. There are a couple positions that we just don’t have dudes that are ready quite yet and it’s DT and WR. Next year I think it looks different as we just need another year for the talent to mature.
But, you do see receivers killing it. Multiple every year. The bar is to be elite, not very good.
I just don't know how you can remotely say that. Baylor isn't the conference opponent any more.

Were you really, really, really happy last season or same level of happy.
My problem last year was Ewers. His self-sacking and lack of the long ball had me thinking all year that Arch would have been a better option. (After the Mississippi State game, I was convinced)
Last year we, essentially, had ONE receiver after Bond got hurt.
This year, we are going to have Wingo and Livingstone. So I would say I'm happier. (Especially with Arch slinging the rock)
I could see us getting depth in the portal but I'm happy with the starters right now.
EDIT: BTW, I'm really happy with this civil discussion between 2 people that disagree. Very refreshing. I'm more used to the way our divided country argues.

I think you are missing a lot. I don't know how you can overlook the problem.
I think the larger concern for me is that I get the Manning uptick at quarterback. Seriously, I do. I just don't know how to quantify its value with lesser running back, wide receiver, tight end and offensive line play around him.

There is no right or wrong, you have no idea if these receivers will be good enough, you just think it because, I don’t know, spring practice reports in t-shirts say Livingston is really good? If they don’t bring a receiver in and it’s not good enough, it’s like our secondary a couple years ago. Kept us from winning the whole thing. If they do bring a dude in, what’s the comparable downside?
About half the time, if you find out, it is just one of those stories that you may not feel right passing along. Something sad or embarrassing or just ungentlemenly to tell.

This. It’s like people forget we start with tOSU and then have to play in the SEC, where every week is a grind. Also, the recency bias of people thinking every super blue chip freshman WR can be Williams or Smith may have some projecting. None of these guys were so good that they forced you to put them on the field last year. Smith and Williams are. Granted Texas had a loaded WR room, but that’s kind of the point. It was loaded with proven commodities. I think there’s a bright future for all three of these guys, but they’ve been bit players to this point, at best.

But we won't have to wait until the season to see who is right. You will see it in our portal moves. Coaches know we need big help at WR, as do all of the mods and others who talk to those in the program.
