Ketch's 10 Thoughts From The Weekend (Will UT make it rain in 10 days?)

I really want to hear Sark/Clark talk about the injury process. They couldn't have anticipated this.
7 months is absolutly ridiculous - though, Dobbins/Rodgers did the "new" surgery 2 years ago and were pressing for the hypothetical playoffs in the same season. Dobbins then with a full offseason was great - I have no idea if Clark had that same new surgery or what, but as a lot of these high end athletes like Kobe, Terrell Suggs and Rodgers have said.. it's sooo much more mental

I agree though, would love to hear more from Sark as well as a breakout availability with Clark

What's the issue with TR?

my post from last night...

True Romance is probably on my Top 20 list, but, you can't have it on a VK list & leave out a movie like The Salton Sea...this is worse than putting TR on a Brad Pitt T10 list

I re-watched The Saint this weekend to see if it was as bad as I remember & what do ya know know, it was worse...Spartan & Wonderland deserved the spot more

As a fan of his in the 80's & 90's, I'd rank Val as my all-time "how did he screw up being a mega star" actor...his post 2005 trek is baffling...and I'm usually synched up with your movie lists, but, your non-fandom of Val growing up puts us at odds on this one.

.

It's been a godsend
Ketch - Is there an Orangebloods article on exactly what Schloss changes he has made and how they have been accomplished? I need to catch up on the baseball team beyond just their record, but the change in one year is amazing.

Yeah, he wasn't as great as Kilmer, but he was great as Doc.

"All of you can kiss my Rebel dick."

I'm not even a Rebel, but I have used that line before about 100 times. 🤣
Wyatt Earp is great

It's mind-bending.

@ZachattheDisch any specific place you'd send him?

Great column.

It's easier to seek players in the transfer portal when you're not in the midst of a playoff run. I sense Texas will definitely upgrade the roster when the portal opens.

@Touchstone

There is no one article that addresses the changes that have been made, but re-watching the videos I do each Monday with Schloss would probably be the best place as we discuss a ton of topics and what is important to the staff and their strategies.
Thanks. See my post below ... err above...and get to work on our book.

That's not what I said. I was talking about in a match-up with the gamecocks.
Oh, ok. It was confusing, you said UConn and Huskies but meant SC.

"Texas might have had the best player on the floor on Friday night, but it's possible that UConn had the next best six or seven, although Jordan Lee might squeeze in there somewhere. Beyond that? No one else looked like they would play for the Huskies if they transferred programs."

Freudian slip. Thanks for catching that.

@Touchstone - if you haven't already, I'd recommend perusing through the offseason thread and the fall report as well. Lots of nuggets blended with plenty of anxiety (during the coaching search) and of course, pure non-sense. But it's an all-timer for me as far as threads go.

Two starting level wide receivers

You can't be all-in on 2024 without making sure you don't leave anything to chance when it comes to ensuring that Arch Manning has enough proven, no-doubt-about-it dependable players at the wide receiver position. If one of the freshmen receivers is ready to go to the moon in year one, fantastic, but you can't count on that at this point.

Given that every agent on the planet will not be doing their jobs correctly if they haven't explained the kind of leverage good players have at this moment in the Portal, I fully expect really good players to enter the Portal.

Texas has a few talented options that are ready to contribute, but are any of them ready to be first-team All-SEC level good?

No, and the Longhorns could use a couple.
I think the team needs and will likely pick up 1 high level portal receiver. The perception that Texas doesn't play the receivers recruited out of high school is starting to impact their recruiting and I don't think Sark believes he needs 2 this year.

Texas didn't have a receiver that made first, second or third team All-SEC last year, but I think Wingo is a strong possibility to make at least one of those teams this year. He caught 9 passes for 210 yards from Arch last year (23.3 yards per reception). He caught 20 for 262 from Quinn (13.1 yards per catch). That's more than a 10 yard difference per reception between the two QB's. As a backup, he caught only 2 passes per game in the games where Arch played the majority of snaps. If Arch connects with him 4 times a game with only half that difference in ypc, he'd have more total yards and yards per catch than Ryan Williams had over the 12 game regular season.

Is it?

a. He plays a critical role in the second one.
b. The second one is one of the biggest movies of the century.
Top Gun Maverick was great right up until Tom Cruise sprints full speed over a small mountain to Rooster while in full battle rattle. Gets to him faster than Usain Bolt could on a flat highway.

Actually, both similar in size and similar in running style. Neither one a great cut-back runner. In 2009 and 2010, Newton never ran behind an offensive line that could run block on the level of the 2024 offensive line, but he led the team in rushing in 2009 with 552 yards.

Both pretty decent pass catchers.

"Nice back, nothing special" describes both of them.
Disagree. Wisner is 3 inches shorter and quicker reading and quicker acting. Newton was mostly an outside zone type back. Wisner is more effective in inside and read schemes. I know a lot has been made of the YPC for Wisner but go back and watch the aggy game. The defenses that killed his YPC were TOSU and Georgia twice. Elite defenses like ours.
I am not saying Wisner is the 2nd coming of Ricky. I think a healthy Baxter is better but who knows if Baxter can stay healthy.

Based on some of Suchomel's earlier reporting on Booby Feaster, it seems like that's something he definitely was paying attention to.
I mean... they just signed 2 five-stars and 4 super blue chip level guys in the last class.

Sark has one job in 10 days. Kill the MF’n portal.

On baseball… i might put it as, it’s not one of the most talented teams but it plays like one of the best teams that’s been in Austin. What a start for Schloss. Hopefully a great preview of the next decade of baseball.
