Damn LM2....nuked him before I even finished heating up my popcorn....
You're done here.
MM I swear to Christ I was about to email you and fvcking BEG you to give that a$$hat my home address or get his from him. You're done here.
I haven't met a single UT alumni that wasn't excited about the Strong hire. All were looking forward to the success he would bring to Texas.I think he's wrong myself. I think they wanted him to succeed at UT for sure.
I agree with Corso on the way he handled the remaining Mack players. The one that really grabbed my attention was Freshmen with equal talent would start. I think experience is an asset.
Look up the recruiting process of David robinson. He went on city Tours of San Antonio with Red. Lunches, dinners-- the gambit. I could tell you I've been told this by Red himself because I used to be a partner in a company he owned a majority share in---- or you can take my word for it. Of course if you don't wanna take my word for it-- we can always make PayPal bets.....Actually it was Angelo Drossos and his GM Bob Bass who staked the future of the Spurs on David Robinson.... But I'm with you. Go man go.

Exactly--- pandering to the throngs of troglodytes out there that see themselves as morally or intellectually superior but when it comes to sports, they live under a rock.Just doing his job and pandering to the crowd.

Sooooooooo Austin is a racist cesspool......
Got it kirk.
I don't think we recruited him.......at his core, Herbstreit is a biased, cocky Buckeye.
In 1989 Red McCombs was the Spurs owner.
Maybe he was a successful HC because of Teddy Bridgewater, i'm sure that had a lot to do with it.No, Strong has already been a successful HC and is trying to build UT, and it seems like Herbstreit is 100% correct.
They didn't win every year with Bridgewater and he didn't play defense for Louisville. He built Louisville and he is rebuilding UT, he just won't be given the time, despite restrictions he was placed under his first two years by the AD and his own mistakes. He should be allowed to see his recruits develop beyond 1-2 years IF he gets the same opportunity UNPROVEN Muschamp was given at Florida.Maybe he was a successful HC because of Teddy Bridgewater, i'm sure that had a lot to do with it.

I think Kirk was at least partially correct. You may recall that Charlie Strong was not the first, second, or third coach offered the job. Some speculate that he was fifth or sixth down the list. Regardless, several coaches supposedly turned down the offer.Who would want the job in Austin, Kirk ole boy...just about every coach in football.
Agreed. BUT- and not to get political MM but we are talking about football here-- race baiting sells right now. It's a hot button topic. Sure, it exists (sadly). But ALL human beings are biased in one way or the other. I like girls with blonde hair and huge boobs more than I like girls with dark hair and no boobs. I like chocolate peanut butter ice cream more than I like plain old vanilla. I like coaches with a long resume and lots of accomplishments better than those without. The race thing is ridiculous. If Stoops went 13-17 or whatever over his next 30 games, there would be a mob with torches and and pitchforks outside of his house in Norman.
Good points and I agree with most. I'll disagree on two things. It is very difficult to get the hiring right. Strong had a very good resume and appeared to be ready for the big time. He was a DC for Florida in their championship run, was DC for iconic coaches in Meyer and Holtz, and above all, he was very successful at a mid major. Though he wasn't my first choice, I won't say that it was a bad hire from the outset or that he was set up to fail. He is the HC and has an abundance of resources regardless of any outside noise. He has to make it happen. Second, is about coaches turning down Texas. It is a shot to our ego, but, it is factual to a point. I just feel that to a certain extent there is luck involved because of timing of where the quality coaches are in their career. They went hard after Saban. I liked it but, we all know it was a gamble because he had so much stability and reasons to stay. Even with all his success at bama, Saban actually seriously considered it from what was reported. Outside of that, I think there was Jim Mora and James Franklin maybe. Colin Cowherd was alluding to John Harbaugh which would have been a dream come true, but, that turned out to be nothing. I am on the outside, so I really don't know who really and truly was on Texas'/Patterson's radar.I think Kirk was at least partially correct. You may recall that Charlie Strong was not the first, second, or third coach offered the job. Some speculate that he was fifth or sixth down the list. Regardless, several coaches supposedly turned down the offer.
On the race issue, I posted in another thread that although people here are not down on Strong because of his race but rather his results, others around the country will play the race card if he is fired. That's just the socio-political environment we are in today. However, Herbstreit did not mention race in his comments. He did mention the comment made by McCombs. But that comment, while actually objective and not racist at all, was jumped on by the progressive crowd in Austin as being racist and the sentiment was echoed by journalists across the country who smelled blood in the water and were itching for something sensational at UT. And they got it...
The bottom line - Strong is a coach who is in over his head. He was from the very beginning. It has nothing to do with race, but it has everything to do with the fact that he was set up for failure from the very beginning - by being courted and hired by UT. BMDs like McCombs who are cut out of the process are going to speak their minds. Red did just that. In retrospect, he was right. This was a bad hire from the outset. And in the end, someone finally pointed out the emperor had no clothes.
It's hard to see any coaching going on, when our record indicates we are worse off with this coach (losing record) than the one we had (winning record). Additionally, we have one of the worse defenses (again) in UT history. Finally, the coaching blunders continue to manifest themselves on Saturdays and it reeks of incompetence. Not worth starting a new thread over, but did anyone post about Earl's comments? If so, it must have been taken down by a Mod. However, his comments tie back to this thread.
“You’re not going to win all the ballgames,” Campbell said on KVUE. “I think (what) the guy on ESPN said was right. (Kirk) Herbstreit or whatever his name says, let him stay, leave him alone."
He's coached Texas for 30 games now and i've never seen a Texas defense look as awful as the one they're putting on the field now. They're getting worse, not better. That's totally inexcusable! The talent isn't that bad, it's the coaching. Thank God for Gilbert or we'd be 1-4.They didn't win every year with Bridgewater and he didn't play defense for Louisville. He built Louisville and he is rebuilding UT, he just won't be given the time, despite restrictions he was placed under his first two years by the AD and his own mistakes. He should be allowed to see his recruits develop beyond 1-2 years IF he gets the same opportunity UNPROVEN Muschamp was given at Florida.
It has nothing to do with race or anything else, its about wins & losses. If Charles Manson went 30-0 as the Texas head coach, we'd love him! That reminds me of a quote by Barry Switzer a few yrs ago when he was asked about that Missouri player that was gay if the NFL owners would draft him. Switzer said hell yes they'll draft him, if Charles Manson could run a 4.2 forty the NFL owners WOULD DRAFT him too!! hahaThe race thing is ridiculous. If Stoops went 13-17 or whatever over his next 30 games, there would be a mob with torches and and pitchforks outside of his house in Norman.
