DALLAS – Playing without injured starting quarterback Dillon Gabriel, Oklahoma lost the 2022 Red River Showdown to Texas, 49-0, on Saturday at the Cotton Bowl.

The loss was OU's first to Texas since 2018. The Sooners had won 10 of the last 13 meetings and 16 of the last 23.

Oklahoma (3-3, 0-3 Big 12) battled with the Longhorns early and entered the second quarter down 7-0.

OU converted on a pair of fourth down attempts on its second possession of the game, including a completion by holder Michael Turk to kicker Zach Schmit on a fake field goal. But the Sooners were unable to convert on their third fourth-down attempt of the drive and turned over the ball on downs.

The Longhorns (4-2, 2-1) capitalized early in the second quarter, scoring on their opening possession. UT added two additional touchdowns and led 28-0 at halftime.

On Texas' opening possession of the third quarter, Oklahoma's C.J. Coldon hauled in his first interception as a Sooner. But OU struggled to produce offensively after intermission, gaining just 24 yards.

The Longhorns scored a pair of touchdowns after the turnover and entered the third quarter with a 42-0 advantage. They added another touchdown in the fourth quarter.

Redshirt junior quarterback Davis Beville made his first collegiate start for the Sooners. He completed 6 of 12 pass attempts for 38 yards and an interception. OU rushed the ball 42 times on the day for 156 yards. Receiver Jalil Farooq had five carries for a team-high 60 yards while running back Eric Gray ran 11 times for 59 yards.

Linebacker Danny Stutsman led the Sooner defense with 13 total tackles while defensive back Woodi Washington and linebacker David Ugwoegbu added 10 each.
