A little more than a week ago, multiple sources expressed confidence in UT’s chances of landing Rivals100 RB LJ Johnson. I’m not here to dash your hopes tonight, but the level of confidence from multiple sources isn’t as high as what it was last week. In fact, one person this week told me he thinks Texas might have the slightest of edges, but it’s damn near a toss-up.
I would have to think that watching last night’s national championship game (assuming LJ watched) piqued his interest in Texas, but the UT staff is having to address some of the usual concerns that come with having a five-star freshman at the same position that really came on at the end of the season. This one feels like it could come down to whether LJ goes with a feeling that A&M is a better business decision versus his strong feelings in his heart towards Texas overall and the UT staff.
Tough one to predict right now, and LJ is keeping everyone guessing from what I can tell. I do think he’s genuinely torn … in fact, I don’t think he’s even fully decided on whether or not he’ll enroll in January or wait things out. It’s possible we could have some clarity by the end of this week with classes set to begin for UT and A&M one week from today.
I’m keeping my FutureCast on Texas until I hear enough evidence that would cause me to flip it, but I’d say my confidence level on any prediction with LJ is pretty low.
