I grew up with the original Star Wars and my kids (now 24/28) collected all kinds of action figures and grew up with the newer SW movies. Personally, I have liked each of the last few movies less and less.

Now, I hear about this new series. Is it truly worth a commitment to watch it cause I really could not stand watching the last few Star Wars movies and it pains me to see where the franchise has gone?

What do you all like about it?

Good acting, good story, no cheesy characters or script, some good old sci fi battles, etc.? Is it original and creative?

Thanks.

Also a question. Is the boba fett in mandalorian the same Fett in ROTJ?

You will love The Mandalorian. It is fan service to Original Trilogy purists. It has a lot of references and tie-ins to the newer stuff, as well, but it is bringing the fanbase together. Everyone loves it. The whole world is watching it because it is so good. It is just pure Star Wars, back to the basics.

The acting, directing, and writing is exactly what you're going to look for. It feels like Star Wars again. There are old characters, planets, and references... and new. You'll feel right at home.

It takes place about 5-6 years after RotJ. So, you've got the remnants of the Empire scattered about and the New Republic trying to get a handle on things. Meanwhile, the Outer Rim is still the wild west.

It's an outstanding show. Season 1 is good. Season 2 is outstanding.

Old Star Wars fan here, I put up with the new movies because of my Fandom. But Mandalorian is great. New, refreshing and excites me for what's to come. Keeps to the original story line but with Jon Favreau's touch, makes for new ideas the next generation can enjoy.

Me too, and I really liked it.

I thought the first season and a half were just good. They are entertaining but just too juvenile for me. A bunch of the secondary characters have somewhat annoyed me.

Having said that, the last few episodes have been incredible. The season finale of season 2 had me feeling like a kid again.

My order:
  1. Empire Strikes Back
  2. A New Hope
  3. Rogue One
  4. Return of the Jedi
  5. Second half of the 2nd season of the Mandalorian
  6. Revenge of the Sith
  7. Solo
  8. First 1.5 seasons of the Mandalorian
  9. Clone Wars (I'm halfway through season 4 so this might change)
  10. The Force Awakens
  11. Rise of Skywalker
  12. Attack of the Clones
  13. The Last Jedi
  14. A Phantom Menace
I'd rank the trilogies like this :
  1. Original
  2. Prequels
  3. Sequels

MandalorIan is phenomenal. It helps to have watched The Clone Wars and Rebels series beforehand since there are some references to them...both of those series are fun to watch despite being cartoons.

Dave Filoni is the vision behind Clone Wars and Rebels, and he and Jon Favreau (Ironman director) are collaborating on Mandalorian and doing a fantastic job.

I grew up with the originals. The prequels were awful and such a massive letdown. I have mixed feeling about Episodes 7-9. It had its moments, but I didn't like Episode 8 at all. I enjoyed Rogue One. The final 5 minutes or so rank as high as any scene from any of the best films for me. Solo was better than I expected (and I didn't expect much), but not great. All that said, watch The Mandalorian. Season one was good and entertaining. There are some characters I could live without, but they don't ruin the series in the same fashion Jar Jar Binks did. Season two is fantastic.

Don't forget Rebels. By season 2 it started to take off.
I see Rebels and Clone Wars right next to each other. Once you are done with BOTH they will rise a ranking or two. To me Clone Wars was awesome but Rebels really completes the story and some characters. I would say 7A and 7B. Clone wars makes Revenge of the Sith even better.

Need to watch Rebels. Assuming you didn’t leave it off by accident.

Another thing for those of you who play video games, play Jedi: Fallen Order. It’s canon also.

Nice..
For me
1. ESB
2. Rogue 1
3. ROJ
4. Mandalorian
5. Solo
6. New Hope
7. Revenge of Sith
8. Clone wars
9. Force awakens
After that no thoughts.
the Clone wars and Rebels series would be up in the level of top 5 as a whole. Ashoka Tano is huge in my house.

another thought is, this order will be shuffled this time next year with the Fett series almost guaranteed.

I think Ep 7-9 were a disgrace and should be expunged from canon. The Mandalorian is outstanding and remained true to the original trilogy.

Dave and Jon?

Appreciate everyone's feedback. Seems like I am missing out.

dave filoni, Elite Star Wars mind. created the clone wars and Star Wars rebels and is revered for his attention to details and tie ins. Ahsoka is his brain child.

Jon favreau who also directed iron man, is a massive Star Wars fan and is also an executive producer and director for Disney. them two together Have created a must-watch show for any Star Wars fan

I would expect it to change...the last 3-4 episodes of CW are simply incredible. I'd put that 90 minutes or so right up at the very top of everything in SW.

I'm about halfway through Rebels now and it's also very good.

I haven't gotten to Rebels yet but its next on the list.

The 20+ episode seasons for the Clone Wars with all of the filler episodes is a beat down but I'm chugging my way through it. I've mostly gotten used to the cartoon aspect of it, but it feels a bit childish with plot and dialogue probably 30% of the time. There have been some great episodes though (mostly the large scale combat episodes).

I feel ya. Admittedly, I have not watched all of The Clone Wars but I have watched all of Rebels. Took me a few episodes to get into it but it was worth it. And it set up some shows for the future. And it has Darth Vader.

Some of the best Star Wars content to date. It is amazing Jon Favreau did not disappoint and what is so crazy is he pulled this off while also pulling off Avengers End Game. Its amazing bro definitely check it out.

I imagine watching Rebels before Clone Wars makes the Vader scene 1/10th as exciting. That is one of the greater moments in Star Wars lore but you have to have seen Clone Wars first to understand the powerful affection between Annakin Skywalker and Ahsoka. They were like big brother and little sister. Without that history it's just another Vader lightsaber dual.

Mandalorion is Outstanding!! Binge watch the whole thing. You won’t regret it. And, with the same people running it, the new Bounty Hunter series should be good as well.
