Tough first game lost against Rice. We took the double header on Saturday and lost today. Great pitching all weekend. Freshman Blair Henley threw for a win on Saturday and looked good. 2-2 to start the season and Rice is a well coached team.

I was sure hoping for 3-1. 2-2 isn't bad. It'll be interesting to see the differences between Pierce's team and Garrido's team as things go forward. The main thing I would like to see is Pierce recruit bigger players who can hit higher average and with power. It seems for the most part that most Texas players are all 5' 10", 175 lbs.

I don' expect to see a big difference between last year and this year. It's mostly the same players and Auggie was not a bad coach, there is no magic fix. The starting pitching was really good this weekend which should keep us in games. The hitting was pretty much like last year... Same players that couldn't hit last year can't hit again this year. Of course it is early and I could be totally wrong.

I think it will take a couple of years for Pierce to get his type of players in before we can determine much of anything about him.

I agree MM I was expecting 3-1 but I will take 2-2 with this new staff. We out hit Rice the whole series it should come together soon. We have some hitters that can go long. I have faith in the new staff, it's just the beginning of the season. I hope Boswell can get on his tear like he did this past summer.

They look different and in a good way! They'll gel, 2-2 versus a preseason top 25 is a good start. Errors must be eliminated and bad umps are part of the game.
