Nebraska Sucks-- Frost is fired

Art Briles would be a home run hire for Nebraska.
I didn't even recognize Briles in this pic. He was at the OU game last week and a guy took a pic, , I'll try to find it, you would not even recognize him. Still the same build but his hair is all gray and long in the back. In this pic he may have had a facelift?

Gary Patterson is going to get lots of calls. Depends on if he wants the full grind again yet or if he is digging just doing the analyzing and game planning for the Def thing.

If I'm Neb, I'm throwing some money his way. I figure he could leave this job anytime he wants.

My father in law lives 2 houses down from him in Horseshoe Bay on Lake LBJ. I think he's been kind of laying low for a little bit now. He's a damn good football coach and I would hire him over just about anybody out there.

I could see him hanging out at Texas for a couple years before getting back to the grind honestly. He’s never worked with the talent level being assembled at Texas. Could see him doing that a few years.

What are Nebraska’s football facilities like? Are they all paying homage to the 70’-90’s decades or have they updated over the years

They want Aranda.

@diadevic if Aranda were to go to Neb. would you petition the Baylor Admin to hire Briles again? Yall still have plenty of white girls like them Briles recruits were tempted with

Back in the late 70's to early 80's Boyd Epley had Nebraska's S&C program way ahead of what most people in CFB were doing. Kids were bigger and stronger after a few years in the program and there just weren't many programs that invested in the facilities and nutrition the way Nebraska did. They had a massive walk on program and they could find hidden gems. They were also went big after the Prop 48 players and they could get guys on campus that other universities wouldn't take. They were also on TV all the time and that was in the day where you were lucky to get 6 or 7 televised games a year.

Things have changed quite a bit. Everyone has a really good S&C program, the kids who would have walked on are now playing somewhere else because everyone is on TV and Prop 48 is a thing of the distant past. The have no natural recruiting base or any recent tradition so they can't go into Texas, California or Florida like Ohio State or Michigan. Its just not a good job right now.

Corporate farms bought up all those family owned farms and now you don't have all those hidden gem farm boys.

Aranda clearly the best choice if they can't get Urban. If UT couldn't get him hard to see Urban there. One Husker poster was comparing the Husker cost to buy out bad coaches with UT's experience over the last 10 years. Huskers out about $25 mil. Anyone keep track of the buy outs for Horn coaches? Assume Mack did not get much. Not that he needed it. On the other hand, given the TV money, maybe peanuts.

The farm kids are still there. Nebraska had community college level admissions requirements and community college level cost. It was like $3,000 a year in the mid-late 90s, Kids could afford to stick around for a few years as a walk on. Its also easier to keep those kids when the team in in the NC hunt every year.

They haven't been good in a long time and it now cost over 17,000 a year to go there. The kids that would have been walkons are on scholarship at Group of 5 or FCS schools.

I think Nebraska probably has a better shot at Urban than Texas did. I think Urban wanted to shoot his shot in the NFL I think that’s really the only reason he turned Texas down. This time with Nabraska. Urban isn’t going to want the last thing people see or him is his flaming out in the NFL, so I think he will take another college job. The problem is I’m not sure any of the top programs will touch him, so it would probably be a program like Nebraska that would give him the shot

Not that they have much to lose. What a disaster of a great football program. Even USC never fell that far.

Urban just signed back on in the broadcast booth doubt he’s a candidate for the Neb. Job. I think a lot of folks are discounting what a really total douche Trev Alberts is, that will definitely dictate the coach they get

Albert's has had little dick syndrome for years. Backbwhen he was with ESPN he used to pitch fits about lodingvinterviews to other reporters. Then when the hired Nick Lashey for College gameday (disaster), Trev lost his sh!t-- rightly so, though.
But he has a reputation in Nebraska fir being a horses ass.

Yeah who can forget his pompass ass on Gameday

Now that it appears that OU has cleared the Briles name by adding Jeff Lebby to its staff - yes, I would take Briles in a minute. But you shouldn't worry too much about poor little Baylor - we have established ourselves as HCU - Head Coach University. Briles to Rhule to Aranda. Aranda's not leaving, but if he does, we'll just upgrade. Again.

That isn't necessarily a bad thing when you have to hire/fire and look over an athletic department and the pressure of fans seeking perfection.

I don’t even know if Rhule would be an option but heck I’d take him back too

Pederson fvcked that program and huskers never recovered imo. And of all people Osbourne let it happen. Solich shoulda never been let go. My how the once mighty have fallen.

Riley was just as bad of a hire than Calahan. It is so hard to believe that Frost has a 0.286 conference record and 0.340 overall record at Nebraska.

My post had nothing to do with coaches brother. More of Nebs AD Pedersons hire in 2000 or 2001.
He run out Nebs next great coach Solich and run that once proud program into the ground. All I was saying.

I think I get the Solich part, but what else dis he do. To me, Nebraska is all or none football coach related.

Yeah they ran Solich out of town after a 9-3 season then ran Bo Pelini out after a 9-3 season and nothing has been the same sense.

kinda like KU and Mark Mangino

Nebs demise as a program started with Steve Pederson's hire. Solich, the successor to Osborne and coaching for championships even after he left abruptly. Neb has been downhill since. No disrespect to horns, but husker was always my/ou's biggest rival thought the 70's, 80's and 90's. My youth till pubic hair. I remember these things for some odd reason. 😁

I actually liked Nebraska as I began to watch college football. I didn't like them on the same level as Texas, but they were on TV a lot. in the upper rural panhandle of Texas when there was only 3 channels. I used to watch Nebraska vs ou. It is just different than most of the guys on this forum. Most people in the panhandle (back in the 70s, 80s at least) were Texas Tech people. There were some ou and okla staters here and there due to proximity. It is weird, but for rural country, there were no aggy people that I remember. ou was always the team I couldn't stand. I never felt the hate towards aggy because there was just no interest and I didn't know any better. I began to dislike aggy in the mid to late 80s when they were having there way with Texas. To this day, I still don't have the hate for aggy like most Texas fans (even though I am beginning to see their weird customs...).

I love Nebraska folks. I have some very dear friends up there. I've always been treated well by the folks there. Best morning breakfast diners on the planet. On any given morning you can roll into a little country diner in rural Nebraska and order steak and eggs get a slab of beef cooked on a flat griddle and eggs to your liking and a mound of hashbrowns--- and it's usually around 10 bucks. Every time I've gone pheasant hunting at sun up in Nebraska I've had to fight off falling asleep because of a belly full of steak and eggs.

I hope paper clip stomps a mudhole in Nebraska. It was a dirty program for decades....Kama comes home to roost.
