So stay with me here----

There's an accomplished OC on the market right now. A guy that knows Xs and Os. He was an all American QB, he comes from a coaching family. He played QB in the NFL. He has DEEP ties to the state if Texas. He won a Heisman. He just got fired from a team that kicked our a$$es like 5 times.

Detmer just completed his second season with BYU, his first college coaching position after coaching at a Texas high school. BYU finished 4-9 and scored only 221 points, failing to eclipse 20 points in nine contests.

I know. It isn't a perfect match. But the dude knows offense. I can assure you, it can't be worse that what we had under Watson and Beck......

Wouldn’t mind him. BYU was his first college OC job. Probably would be better this time around. With considerably better talent on offense one would think.

So how did Diaz do such a good job at Miss St and Miami? Leads me to believe the talent wasn’t here.

im not in favor of this. although i definitely see it as a high risk high reward type of deal.

Just think. We beat tech and we might be hiring Kingsbury (spell check) as OC

Yeah that is something Tom Herman and/or any future coaches are going to have to address. Manny Diaz, Major Applewhite, Bryan Harsin. We’re all blamed to some extent for the failures at Texas. All went on to be successful coaches elsewhere. 2 guys now HC’s. So the person that brings Texas back to being a national power will be the person who figures out why the highly rated classes of the last 7-8 years continually under achieve. It’s clesrly not all coaching.

Only Diaz was blamed for the defense being so bad. He was terrible here. But he is doing alright at his new stops

That’s kind of a problem though. When a coach was good before he got to a place, and good after he left a place. Gotta ask whst went wrong here? The bottom line is the recruiting classes of the last decade have largely not resulted in production on the field. Hopefully we are turning the tide on that however.

If you can't score points at BYU, I doubt you can here, but who knows. Why not at least talk to Kevin Sumlin or Sonny Dykes?

I imagine Sumlin lands a HC job somewhere, but if not Herman would be smart to do that. Even if it was just for a year. He needs a good year on offense.

Another guy I’d look at is Clemson Co OC Jeff Scott. He also works with the WR and Clemson has turned out some beast WR’s the last few years. A position we’ve struggled to develop the last few years.

What about Troy Walters, OC at UCF? Frost is likely off to Nebraska. If Walters doesn't follow, would he be a good option to replace Beck? Unlikely he'd get the HC job in Orlando.

Was he in the Lavell Edwards era? That would be another plus.

I don't know about who the OC should be, or what coaches we are going to replace.

But one thing I do know is we need to hire someone that can recruit and coach offensive linemen. There is just no way to win if you can't control the line of scrimmage.

warehime is legit. give him time and some decent talent. it was bad this year, but i don't put that on him. he was dealt a bad hand. AND the hand kept changing from week-to-week.
