According to reports from ESPN and Fox Sports, UTSA has hired LSU running backs coach Frank Wilson as its new head coach. A deal has been agreed upon and should be formally announced on Friday, according to those reports.
Bruce Feldman tweeted tonight that UT running backs coach Tommie Robinson could be a top candidate to replace Wilson at LSU.
I reached out to a couple people I know who are dialed in at LSU and I have been told that Robinson is in fact a top candidate for the running backs job at LSU.
Robinson, who came to Texas from Southern Cal after Charlie Strong was hired in 2014, has worked with LSU head coach Les Miles at two stops previously. From 1998-2000, Robinson and Miles worked together as assistants for the Dallas Cowboys. In 2001, Robinson joined Miles' staff at Oklahoma State for a year.
Robinson is the only holdover from Charlie Strong's original offensive staff at Texas, and recently we've heard indications that he was likely to stay at Texas. We'll have to see if the LSU situation changes things.
