Because treason is narrowly defined in our Constitution to be aiding our enemy during war. And in the legal context enemies only consist of the countries that we have openly declared war against. Since we not officially at war with anyone, then it's impossible for anyone to be charged with Treason.
This is why you never heard me accuse Trump committing treason whenever other Trump critics were. And the same is true for whoever wrote the anonymous op-ed writer is.
