Going to be a challenge this week to go play against a well-coached, disciplined KSU team. In order for Texas to win, going to have to play one of the best games they've played all season.

Very sound on offense and defense. Really good in the kicking game. What Texas needs to do is be very sound, have good preparation, practice well and get ready to go play.

Have to keep moving forward after the ISU game. It's all about now, have to get that game behind them. Into KSU preparation, time to move on from last week.

Really loves the kids, loves the football team, loves the way they have responded through adversity, keep their heads down and go to work. Usually when you have a young team and have the issues they've had, it becomes a part of the team. That hasn't happened with this group, loves the way they responded.

On offense, they had opportunities early but penalties killed them. Put it together in the second half. On defense, guys made plays, played a lot of guys. Hope you can build on this game and move forward with it.

What you like to see is the competition on defense. They have it on offense, now seeing it on defense. Boyd played well. Bonney had his best tackling game. Both played very well. Fowler is coming on, will be able to help them. McCulloch is an outstanding athlete, need to play him more.
They have not played well on the road. Have to play well this week. Defense has to come alive. Need to play well from the start. If you don't give up big plays and let the crowd in the game, you'll get those stops. On the road, it's all about discipline, playing within yourself. Just play your position and do your job.

Kai Locksley and Strong had a conversation about a month ago. Locksley felt he needs to go somewhere else. Strong told him to take care of his academics so he has a good enough GPA where it won't be an issue.

With Boyd, he has so much energy, comes with a different attitude. Plays like that the whole game. You have to calm him down sometime, tell him to cut back on the talking and just go play. When you talk, you allow a guy to take away from your game. Stay level headed, play through it and continue to play the game.

Jordan Elliott, don't know how long he'll be out. MCL injury. Won't see him or Chris Warren this week.
Shackelford, they'll evaluate him later in the week. Don't know about him.

Him running the D hasn't taken him away from any other duties. He's in the meetings, tells guys what they're going to do, what they expect from each level of the defense. Have to make sure everyone is on the same page, everyone is hearing the same voice. When they go out to practice, they have a script, go out and make sure they're getting done what they need to get done. It's not so much you're getting much of a change, it's just that guys feel there's a different energy, different enthusiasm.

Devin Duvernay, usually takes four or five weeks, beginning to see it with him. Deep ball threat. He is really coming on for them, is going to be an outstanding player.

Playing at K-State is tough because they don't lose much at home, their fans are into it and make it tough. Their student section is there early, very vocal. Have to keep your focus. Have to just go in there and play, haven't done that. Have allowed opponents to make plays, which allows the crowd to get involved. Need to go in from the very beginning, play well from the start.

Chris Nelson is coming along really well. He and Poona Ford inside playing well. Nelson doing a really good job of anchoring the defensive line for them, done a great job of stopping the run.
At CB, if you do your job, it's not very hard. Can't give up the deep ball, allow guys to run past your. They have a good group of CBs, guys they can rotate. Have to make sure they find the right set, guys who are going to make plays, make tackles. On Saturday, didn't give up the deep ball, did a good job of tackling and being aggressive.

John Burt ... he's always in the rotation. Other guys are coming on, but it's not that he has taken a step backward. Had a hip pointer early in the week but he's still in the mix.

Mentally, when you're dealing with young guys, not much phases them. The confidence is there, just taking it game by game, as a coach having to continue to build confidence.

KSU is very disciplined. Have to match it with their discipline. Can't have penalties, have to play smart, can't give up the big play. On the road, always play like you're behind. Just go out and go play.
Strong said he made 3 or 4 defensive calls in the whole game. Only played 3 or 4 defenses the entire game.

On the defensive players and the wristbands ... the reason they wear those, everybody is trying to steal signals. They would show them something on D, then make a call on the wristband to change after the offense made adjustments. Helped tremendously. When the offense changed, they were able to change defenses.

On running the table ... has to be week by week, don't ever want to look down the road. Tough opponents coming up, have to go win on the road.

Keeping ISU out of the end zone was great for the staff. You don't ever want to give up points, go in with the mindset of "let's go stop these guys." ISU had played well, to keep them out of the end zone was big for the coaches and the players.
Naashon Hughes has tremendous athletic ability. Has to be consistent and play like that all the time. Naashon, Hager, Roach all playing the same position, have to take advantage of your snaps. Naashon came on and played well the other night. He has the ability.

When you play an early game on the road, tough to change much of the routine. Pregame meal four hours before. It's not about the routine, more about the focus and just locking in, go and play a good game.

One difference with the defense was that they were at home. Guys love being in front of the home crowd. Guys were moving around, when you have stops you gain confidence. Were moving around, making the offense find them. Guys were moving, playing with confidence, playing at a level you'd like to see all the time.
K-State grinds it out. Not always pretty, but they're going to run the ball, get first downs. They're so patient in what they do, it's going to put pressure on the defense. Not looking for a quick strike, they'll grind it out to get a score. This team doesn't make mistakes, grinds it out, gets first downs, next thing you know they're in the red zone, where they've been successful. Very consistent with what they do and their whole approach. They don't beat themselves.

Hasn't thought much about conference expansion. He's so caught up in what's happening with his team. His biggest concern is getting ready for Kansas State.

Didn't have expectations that D'Onta Foreman would be as good as he is. Went to the school to visit, D'Onta was there, Armanti was late. D'Onta's whole work ethic, wanted to prove that he deserved to be there. Look at what he's doing right now, he's their best football player. He just plays so hard. Without Chris Warren, he had 30 carries the other night, probably could have had 10 more.

They have a tremendous fan base, was really good on Saturday. Helped that they played well. When they got it going on offense, the fans got really loud.
At inside linebacker, don't really have to take blockers on because it's not a lot of power offenses. Just have to run downhill and make plays. They have two outstanding ILB with Malik and Wheeler. If you play well up front, ball shouldn't get to second level, if it does get to second level those guys are athletic enough to run them down and make a play.

Defense against ISU ... had 8 sacks, could have had a few more. DBs didn't allow the ball to get thrown over their head. If you apply pressure up front, it will be positive results like they saw on Saturday.

Tells player on social issues, if you're going to be outspoken, make sure you research it and have all the information before speaking so people can't come back and attack you. Doesn't mind them using their voice. They have a platform, use it, but use it the right way.

Tells the team the only way they're going to win is if they eliminate mistakes, especially on defense. If offense isn't playing well, have to make stops and get the ball back for the offense.

That's it for today.
