Listening to the play by play on the radio sounded very different than what y'all posted during the game. Although much improvement is needed, the defense won this game for TX when we needed it to.

For some reason we just refused to drop into coverage on 3rd down. I was literally pulling my hair out all game long. Why do we insist on sending 4 or 5 when not a single one of these dudes can shed a block from IOWA FREAKING STATE???
The biggest stat - they didn’t lose after having a double digit lead. - baby steps! Had Cain not dropped that one ball, and had D not jumped offsides twice to keep drives alive, this could’ve been over by halftime. They are really close to being a great team.
Its really difficult to play pass defense when you can’t get a pass rush. It makes the QBs job that much easier when he can sit back there and have all day long to throw. Also doesn’t help when your DBs can’t cover either.

My man. There were so many holes in our 6/7 man zone. It’s absolutely ****ing terrible. We don’t get hands on receivers off the line, we don’t make it hard on the WR in their breaks either. They just run free into pockets. It’s pitiful scheme.

I had a lot going on today so I watched some of the game and listened to some on the radio. Sounds like we left 21 points on the field. Should have been a scoop and score on the blocked punt. The miss by Ewers on the 4th and 3 and the drop by Cain when he was wide open.

I don’t disagree with you at all. I’m just saying without a pass rush it makes it that much more difficult to cover in the back end. A good pass rush can make an average secondary turn into a decent secondary.
And I’m with you on the scheme as well. I have made it known that I do not like PK’s defense at all.
We gotta stunt, twist and overload. I don’t see much of that on 3rd and Long. Just basic 4 man pressure with pocket integrity and basic sticks coverage. Middle of hash and corners nothing but grass.
We don’t even fake pressure. At least make the QB ask questions. We don’t even do that.

My question is if a running back runs through a hole like Dekkers did (i.e. head first), would anyone have even considered the hit on his shoulder, targeting? They were beaching because it was a QB that should have slid if he wanted to be "protected."
To me, there was a noticeable difference in the secondary once Ryan Watts left the game. Jordan and Brooks were getting torched out there. Hopefully he’s good to go next week.
Does anybody notice we rotate our defensive backs each series? I have noticed that a lot this year and I don’t understand it. I know Watts got hurt today but it’s just one thing I have noticed.
Yeah, I was premature in proclaiming Watts the next great corner, but you’re right, things definitely got worse when he left. Hope he’s ok.
That said, I’m starting to agree with Michael Griffin. Maybe Watts would be better off at safety.

Yeah we need corners. I suspect that will be a priority in the transfer portal. Think Texas will be a popular portal destination. They missed out on some guys they wanted last year… don’t think that will be the case this year.
I just know that it’s come back to bite us in the ass almost every time we have done it this year. We had Brooks in yesterday after Watts went down and he was playing pretty well. Then next series they put Jordan out there and gets burnt.
There were some instances in the Tech game where they took Jamison out and put Johnson in and he gave up a few big plays. I just don’t like the idea of rotating your outside CBs. Put your 2 best guys out there and go with it. And the 2 best guys have clearly been Jamison and Watts this year.
Correct. We don’t need to change coordinators for the thousandth time. We need to continue to get better talent on defense.

I’d say we don’t have elite LBs and we certainly don’t have depth.
Yeah I mean. I guess the reason I feel like it’s more of a talent issue is we have absolute studs on offense. We don’t have a defensive equivalent to Worthy or Bijian. And that makes our defense just… ok
Compared to who? Somehow tcu, okie light and tech have higher rated LBs? There 3* are better than our 4*. Or does Texas need 5* to beat everybody else’s 3*and4*?
