Much like @Anwar Richardson and @Ketchum he is a journalist trying to make a living in a very difficult industry, in which, at best, you get whacked for saying things that don’t please the fans. It is really rough out there for folks we rely upon to bring us our news. And the newspaper companies that provide these jobs can be very very tough on their employees. I will not begrudge him for continuing to do his best to support himself and his family, whether I like his commentary or not.
At the very least, he’s had the chin to put himself out there for many years to do the job, which no doubt he and the folks who depend upon him are grateful. Just please keep this in mind next time you are tempted to say something really personal and terrible about him.
