Look guys, Baylor is going to pay a steep price for this situation and rightfully so. However, in all honesty something like this could happen on any campus in America When one considers
A the win at all cost mentality at most schools
B Out of control boosters
CThe huge amounts of money generated by college sports
D the disregard of character when recruiting players
Situations like the one at Baylor are bound to happen again and I for one am sick of this BS.
I feel steps should be taken to clean up college sports such as
1 the power 5 and the mid-major conferences leave the NCAA and form a new organization with oversight and enforcement powers
2 uniform rule of conduct for all athletes and uniform penalties for rules infractions
3 The appointment of a national panel to oversee disciplinary situations (Kevin Sumlin can't sit JFF for one play because of a DWI and call that disciplining a player)
4 If a player is kicked out of a member school he can't play at any other member school, ever
5. All players have to stay 4 years for football and 2 years for basketball no more one and done or 3 and out.
Your problem starts at point #1. The NCAA is just what you are talking about. The NCAA is an organization, formed by the P5 and mid-major conferences, with oversight and enforcement powers. The problem is that if you let the schools themselves form the organization, as you are suggesting, then the organization is beholden to the schools, just as the NCAA is now. You really think the SEC is going to let the NCAA tell them which players get suspended, or interfere with their network? Of course not. Neither will the other conferences. The only way your suggestions would happen is if the schools all agreed to it, which is the entire problem in the first place.
