Clob, I try. I want this to remain unlocked and figure humor diffuses any bile building between posts.

I want baby steps. I'm not saying to break down your doors and take away your weapons; I just want some baby steps.

But surely the French owned firearms before? Unless I'm incorrect, I'd assume they had access to guns before legislation took it away. Australians also believed they had the right to own guns due to their history and culture. It's just a matter of changing minds. I grew up with firearms and learning responsibility but we have to progress. If you think you should have the right to certain actions or items because of your culture, why do we not allow duels anymore?

Also, to say that the German population would have stood in opposition to the Nazi regime had they had weapons is the absolute best case scenario. There were already strict gun control laws in effect and the Jews were such a small population that the common German person would not fight for them against a coordinated Nazi army. And let us not forget that the majority of Germans allowed or agreed with the systematic killings of Jews. Those that didn't may have stayed to fight but most tried to stay low or flee the country. I'd be more concerned with how the propaganda made it seem like Jews were less than their German counterparts and responsible for all that was bad in Germany. If you want to be worried about repeating history, turn on Fox News and watch how they frame Muslims.

I agree that I don't want government interference in my daily life. I'm for legalizing drugs, prostitution, polygamy etc... because it increases the economy, reduces crime and it doesn't interfere with my life. I would much rather take the risk of a terrorist organization bombing my house than have the government monitor my daily activity.
Do you personally believe that ALL guns should be taken away in the U.S?

Like I said, not currently. We have too many firearms and there are some people that would rather start a civil war than give up weapons.

Right now, I just want baby steps. Close the gun-show loophole.
My personal preference for the immediate future is guns can be bought and used at ranges and/or safely stowed in the home. There is no reason to have them in public places and no reason to carry them openly.
My personal long term preference is that the population does not carry guns, which leads to police not carrying firearms, which means safer streets for all. Yes, there will be a criminal with a gun among us. I personally do not worry about the 0.000001% of the population that will illegally carry a handgun and worry more about the larger legal percentage that does. Do I think this is feasible? Yes. Do I think it is likely? No.

The largest mass shooting in Texas as of late was created by law enforcement. Police will never be unarmed in America, ever....

Don't use this Cali incident in your gun grab arguments.

@jimsciutto: Breaking: "We are now investigating these horrific acts as an act of terrorism" - FBI just now on #SanBernardino shooting

These acts will be carried out regardless.

So the short version is you want ALL guns taken away from citizens of the U.S.? You understand that rights are not given easily and not taken easily....? I have guns and I am not one bit more dangerous to you than if I did not have any.....how is taking my guns making you safer? I try and try to see other peoples points but sometimes there is no rhyme or reason I guess.

Do you have any idea the percentage of RESPONSIBLE gun owners this country has? You seem to think most gun owners are just nuts that believe aliens are after them or something. If there are over 300,000,000 guns and 500 are used in a crime you want them taken away from everyone? Does not make sense to me. We just disagree.

This giy lives in La-La land. So very..."silly".

Guns will never be taken away. Pandora's box was opened and it created 300,000,000 guns there is no turning back. Cops will always carry guns because of this. You just have to simply accept this no matter what side of the argument you are on. Gun control supporters would be smart to recognize that and focus on better regulations instead of elaborate plans with the end result being no more guns.

This, exactly.

Dude is in la-la land with his thinking. If there is even one gun out there, no reason in handicapping the law. But that's what this "safe space" supporter would like.

The problem with that comparison is that many other countries don't have those rights specifically laid out like the U.S does. It's easier for those countries to restrict (even ban) guns with simple legislation. Since in the U.S. the right to arm is specifically defined, simple legislation won't do it, since that can be challenged in court.

I am not defending him at all. I am just pointing out the obvious. You are an asshat. You are the typical internet badass with no morals or common sense.
I'm the Internet badass that is tired of Americans (and other nationalities around the world) losing their lives.

I'm the asshat that can't stand the idiocy of the "gun control" leftists. The supporters of a Muslim that won't protect my country or my family and friends.

I'm the bastard that likens to an Russian approach of "hurt us, we'll break your world to ensure the next asshole thinks twice before acting". (Russian diplomats were captured, russians captured the family members of the bad guys, and started delivering body parts till the diplomats were released).

You understand that YOU are being a TERRORIST if you kill innocent family members? Pick up a weapon and go to the middle east and do your worst to them then. No one is stopping you.

I'm not going to do the presidents job for him. I'm going to advocate for a change in leadership that was idiotically placed in power. Besides, buy a gun tomorrow and I'm probably on a new "list".

I'll just keep my guns with me and use them if I am present in a radical situation.

Billy you're new here so I'm going to try to be nice when I say this: MM (the moderator) is usually disinclined to allow us to have conversations regarding current events because it's been his experience that while the adults are having a conversation, someone from the kiddy table comes in and nukes the debate with flammatory remarks. We have had a VERY respectful, very informed and very intelligent discussion of these tragic events and what each of us thinks about this going forward. Adults can disagree without being crass, as we have been doing a great job of that. Now out of the blue you emerge on the scene using language that's not cool to use. I'm a proud gun owners myself, but using the terminology you're using isn't needed. I would respectfully ask that you join our discussion and follow suit with the rest of us in a calm and respectful manner, or you go back to the kiddy table. These are important event that effect us all in some way, please treat them as such.

Thank you.

No problem, I'm very happy to turn it down a notch. I was watching the latest press report when I stumbled upon this thread and already pretty "hot".
