OT: Colonoscopy Time

Anecdotes don't count. This is real science. Many "preventative" protocols, such as prenatal visits and mammography also don't stand up to large double studies. Basically, to avoid cancer: don't smoke, drink, or get fat. To avoid breast cancer. girls should have a child relatively young and nurse it.
My grandpa didn't smoke or drink and wasn't fat. Not really sure where you're going with this..

Is there a family history? Somebody that has family history or smoking/drinking/overweight should probably get a colonoscopy. But, if no family history and none of the risk factors, Cologuard test catches the dna of abnormal cells (both polyps or cancer are abnormal) and can be used every 3 years (i think every 3 years)

Yup.

Huge study done by Harvard- 25 years worth of mammograms-- and women that had mammograms died at the EXACT same rate if breast cancer as women that DID NOT have mammograms.

So basically, when it comes to life and death, mammograms are fvcking useless.

Colonodcopies aren't AS useless-- there's still some advantages to them--- for now.

But go back and look at ALL the public service announcements and doctors and news articles and fvcking pink t-shirts and feel free to ridicule those people for telling you "the science was settled" about mammograms.

They were fleecing your insurance.

Also, 722, I am not arguing with you. These should be done, I am only saying that instead of the colonoscopy for those with no family hx coupled with no risk factors, there are other options and people should do one or the other-not neither.

I just had an AF buddy go get a colonoscopy at the VA. 8 year service. Been out 5. WTF is going on here.....
I'm assuming he is at least 50% disabled? From what I gathered if you are 49% or less with combat operation verification and separated short of 20yrs, you have pretty much bumper to bumper coverage up to the 5th year anniversary of your separation date.

Afterwards, you are only covered by the VA for documented conditions directly due to service. Any insurance coverage then has to be obtained traditionally.

I did not do 20 and my documented conditions were downgraded in severity resulting in me not meeting the 50% threshold of tri-care even with copay. Like any quality government system, it ended immediately once I was administratively downgraded.

I didn't like dealing with the VA bs before this but now I am completely done with them altogether. That single payer system is trash. Pray we don't go entirely socialized medicine any time soon.

Dude--

You got blown up......... twice.

I know guys who went under the wire once or twice that have walked away with 100% disability. No ppl heart-- no silver star-- doesn't PTSD count for like 40% in your health eval?
There's no way you should have walked away with less than 50% disability.

And btw-- that fvcking nodule on your thyroid-- I know for a fvcking fact if you were at the clamshell in Bagram or at J-Bad (two places I know you went to at some point) you were around those burn pits--- and those are just two examples of bases or FOBs-- even the damn command outposts had them. I can damn near guarantee you that sh!t was caused there. They are responsible for that sh!t.

Possibly but the way the system "works," it would take at least a year of physical & administrative scrutiny before entering the bureaucratic log jam for approval. IF approved & reclassified, good luck getting treated with any reasonable urgency.
The Doctors opinion is 90% sure it's benign but what if it's the other 10%? Time is crucial and trying to go VA route now would delay a non-guaranteed treatment for years.
Man, I'm so beyond tired of dealing with that system in any fashion. This was like the official end of a toxic relationship. 😂

I’m from a family of dairy farmers and became a chef. Might as well ask me to not breathe.

Whole milk from the grocery store is watered down shit to me compared with what we brought in from the barn. Weird thing is I’ve never had high cholesterol.

I shouldn’t have put it off until nearly 60 years old. This should have been my third and not my first.

I'm doing carnivore, sometimes dirty keto. Cut out carbs like potatoes, bread... and anything w sugar. Go to are beef, bacon, butter and eggs. My lab results are a lot better than they were 20 yrs ago. A1C went from 11.8 to 5.1. Lost weight, less joint pain...
Hope my next colonoscopy goes great.

Doing the same Hill. But only for about 6 months since after my last one in 2021 doc says I have to another one in 3 years instead of 5. But losing some weight. So there's that.

I'm trying to learn how to make duck patè mousse-- either with black truffle, port or cognac.

I've tried a dozen recipes including 4 from France. I can legit cook-- and I keep fvcking this up like a football bat.

Any tips?

First you make a roux….

I was a pastry chef and have no idea how you can’t make a mousse without watching you start to finish. My first instinct is the part in ‘gelatin’ is still too hot as folding in whipped cream isn’t that hard. But if it makes you feel better early career one of my head chefs would scrape the pate a choux off the sheet pan back into the bowl and make me repipe it when I was learning how to do eclairs.

if you watch Alton Brown his shows are pretty much the techniques we were taught at culinary school back in the ‘80s.
