Not sure what the western boundary of the hill country is (Leakey? Barksdale?) but our family--including three boys 8 and under--are renting a place between Utopia and Vanderpool.
We're going to hit Lost Maples (I know the leave changing is over) at least once and maybe Garner state park. What else do you recommend for a family with three rambunctious little kids? The place we're staying has room for them to run around, so that's good.
Any good places with public river access? They can easily kill two hours just crouching at the river bank looking at bugs and stuff.
Family friendly places to eat? Willing to drive an hour in any direction, which I guess puts Bandera and Medina in play.
